It might seem like an aggresive cash-grab on Axl's part but, in reality, it makes solid business sense. What he wants to avoid is any confusion between 'his' band and the new band Slash features in and that is totally fair.
The thing I'm most confused about is why Activision would make such an elementary mistake, you'd think that something that was so obviously contracting voiding would stick out like a sore thumb to their legal department.
They have a well-established history of purchasing licenses to musical rights and then exceeding the scope of the licensed rights. They did the same thing to No Doubt and Nirvana. I guess for them it makes good business sense. Like the kid who buys a ticket to one movie in a multiplex and then spends the afternoon going from screening room to screening room, watching movie after movie after movie. If he doesn't get caught, he's way ahead of the game. If he does get caught after he's watched more than two movies, what's the worst that can happen? They make him leave? He's still way ahead of the game.

He's kind of late on this isn't he? I mean it was advertised on the game and in commercials so I think he's just pushing for money.
Do you have any idea how long it takes for something to get to court? I'm not saying I agree with him, but every legal system has some pretty big wait times.

Court documents even say that Rose was approached by an Activision employee that apologized for the situation "in tears."

Please say it was Kotick, PLEASE.

On the off chance Axl reads this:

Axl, I used to like you buddy, but over the years, you have constantly shown that you are nothing but a hack. I love Guns N Roses. I love Chinese Democracy. Does it compare to the old stuff? FUCK NO! Wanna know what its missing? SLASH! Wanna know who fucked up and broke up the band, took around a decade to make a new album, and has been a laughing stock ever since the first incarnation of GnR broke up? YOU!

Fuck off Axl, you Slowpoke Wanker.

Slash still rules, and he's even clean. You're a washed up, in-the-closet, drugged-out, old man who needs to just enjoy your millions and be quiet.

Peace.

A once-loving fan,

In the extra features of the game, they show him going through all the motion capture/face-scanning stuff in preparation for this game! He's on film, saying that he's "excited to be a part of the game." Wtf is this utterly inane bullshit? He totally cooperated with them. What, did he think they were just gonna create his 3d likeness "cuz they thought it was cool"?

It all depends on the contract and nothing else. Open up the documents and let the lawyers argue the case. That's all that can be said. I haven't seen the contracts or the legal documents, so I can't comment on who is in the right and who is in the wrong. No one can but the lawyers involved.

Never mind Slash, wouldn't showing Axl Rose on the same planet as Guns n Roses now show an improper image of the band? The damage he's doing to it is exponentially worse than anyone else ever will.

Realistic?

You think Activision wouldn't cover their backsides on this?
I'm almost certain they sought and paid for the full rights to use the song as they saw fit for that particular game. No, what Axl is doing is throwing a hissy fit because he wasn't included and Slash was and quite rightly so, as the game is Guitar Hero, not Rock Band.

He doesn't have a leg to stand on and is just after some attention, this case will more than likely be dropped.
Remind me which one of us was excited to go throw this story around to gloat about how dumb Axl is.

You might not have proper perspective on the matter.

Just saying.

I think I'd have to side with Axl on this one to be honest. If this is all true according to Axl then Activision is being their stereotypical prick selves and screwing over anyone possible. If you have a written agreement and then go back on it then you should expect a celebrity to get pissed and want to sue you for as much as possible. 20$ Million Dollars though? I think thats too much money even though we all know that Activision could more than likely afford it.

When you hear about someone suing for 20 million it basically means they're looking to settle for a 1/5 or 1/4 of the original value. It's rare that it goes above 1/2.
