They have a well-established history of purchasing licenses to musical rights and then exceeding the scope of the licensed rights. They did the same thing to No Doubt and Nirvana. I guess for them it makes good business sense. Like the kid who buys a ticket to one movie in a multiplex and then spends the afternoon going from screening room to screening room, watching movie after movie after movie. If he doesn't get caught, he's way ahead of the game. If he does get caught after he's watched more than two movies, what's the worst that can happen? They make him leave? He's still way ahead of the game.newuseforvintage said:It might seem like an aggresive cash-grab on Axl's part but, in reality, it makes solid business sense. What he wants to avoid is any confusion between 'his' band and the new band Slash features in and that is totally fair.
The thing I'm most confused about is why Activision would make such an elementary mistake, you'd think that something that was so obviously contracting voiding would stick out like a sore thumb to their legal department.
Do you have any idea how long it takes for something to get to court? I'm not saying I agree with him, but every legal system has some pretty big wait times.ServebotFrank said:He's kind of late on this isn't he? I mean it was advertised on the game and in commercials so I think he's just pushing for money.
wouldent you?Julianking93 said:He's just doing anything for money now, isn't he?
I think he's doing it because it pisses him off...Julianking93 said:He's just doing anything for money now, isn't he?
Remind me which one of us was excited to go throw this story around to gloat about how dumb Axl is.Wuvlycuddles said:Realistic?
You think Activision wouldn't cover their backsides on this?
I'm almost certain they sought and paid for the full rights to use the song as they saw fit for that particular game. No, what Axl is doing is throwing a hissy fit because he wasn't included and Slash was and quite rightly so, as the game is Guitar Hero, not Rock Band.
He doesn't have a leg to stand on and is just after some attention, this case will more than likely be dropped.
When you hear about someone suing for 20 million it basically means they're looking to settle for a 1/5 or 1/4 of the original value. It's rare that it goes above 1/2.Harbinger_ said:I think I'd have to side with Axl on this one to be honest. If this is all true according to Axl then Activision is being their stereotypical prick selves and screwing over anyone possible. If you have a written agreement and then go back on it then you should expect a celebrity to get pissed and want to sue you for as much as possible. 20$ Million Dollars though? I think thats too much money even though we all know that Activision could more than likely afford it.
