Dungeons & Dragons: Dark elf society is a matriarchy whose ruling caste consists entirely of hot polyamorous bisexuals.

Gamers: Sounds reasonable to me!

Dungeons & Dragons: Also, trans people exist.

Gamers: That doesn?t seem realistic. What is this forced representation bullshit?
Careful with that straw buddy. That much of it is a fire hazard.

And in a world where gender shifting spells, items, and potions are a thing, how can anyone who's even remotely careful about spending have an issue with their birth gender? ESPECIALLY for a frigging murderhobo (A.K.A.: an Adventurer)!?

Though that's still ignoring the fact that the main issue involving the character in question is that she's is basically a poorly written token who's only there so their author can virtue signal and show off how progressive she is. For crying out loud, the SECOND BLOODY THING she tells you is her transgenderness! Have you ever talked to actual transgender individuals?! That's a subject they tend to only bring up when amongst close friends! It's a VERY sensitive subject to them, and they tend to HATE this character because she represents them so badly!

Then again, that's a pattern I've noticed with SJW devs. Depression Quest was a flop with people who actually have depression, and Dragonspear has a transgendered character who actual transgendered people can't stand.

By the way, you forgot to mention how the "matriarchy whose ruling caste consists entirely of hot polyamorous bisexuals" is basically a massive collection of backstabbing sociopaths who worship a goddess who regularly turns some of them into spider people and is held together only through the threats around them. Way to go on making one of the best villainous organizations in the setting look bland and uninteresting though.

When you take away all the reasons, feelings and appropriate discussions to be had, it's ultimately development shitposting that serves no other purpose than to piss people off.
It worked and now they're facing the consequences. Amber Scott deserves to be fired, but will probably have lots of opportunities despite her poor judgement.
Deserves to be fired? Why?
From the CEO's statement: 'We created the game as a group, and moving forward we'll work on the game's issues as a group, which I believe is exactly as it should be.'
Unless this woman has done something terrible that I don't know about, I don't see any reason for her to be fired.

That's alright, you're free to disagree, but I mentioned why I think so and it's certainly a good enough reason when you consider that others have been fired for simply having an opinion.
Oh because you think she was 'shitposting'? Sorry, I didn't realise those two parts of your comment were connected, it's early.

Still, I think reactionary firing of people who offend others is something we should avoid, rather than encourage. Even if it's happened in the past, doesn't make it less wrong. I'd rather people be allowed to stick around and develop, rather than get the axe the second they put a toe out of line. But that's just me.

When I make a game, I'll make sure that there are no cisgender playable characters. I wonder how much that will piss people off?
Short answer: Most likely no one

Long answer:

1) Why should people care for your no name game that caters to a minority of a minority? They will simply not buy it because its not attractive to them. Its not like you have a history of creating excellent games like the baldurs gate series was/is and then abridge it for your own political agenda.

2) Due to catering to a minority exclusively you will most likely sell as many copies as sunset overdrives last game did

3) Congratulations, you just bankrupted yourselfe in a failed attempt at "pissing people off", sitting on the street with a possible significant debt from the costs of developing your "game to piss people off".

4) Gays and transgender make a total of what? 10 to 12 % of the overall populace of america? And from these 12% theres even a lower number of gamers, and from these number of gamers theres even less that might play the genre of game you put out, and from that even less might play on PC. DO THE MATH... it is not economically viable to cater to the LGBTQ or Gay community exclusively, infact its a surefire way to go out of business.

If you really want to piss someone off make a game like hatred... that got alot of media attention and from NPCs, wich lead to heightened sales of an otherwise shitty game due to people getting interested in it due to all the outrage.

Oh and BTW... people are not pissed off about LGBTQ chars in their game. They are against them being abused for virtue signaling and tokenism. If you put such a minority of a minority of a minority character into your game, you better make sure theres more to them then "Hi... im token character XYZ and my only purpose in this game is to score progressive points with people that wont even buy this game and hit the actual players over the head with the Authors ooc political agenda"

Add to that the rewriting of characters, the injection of RL political agendas and the Author pretty much saying "i dont care if you like it, im going to do this with everything i lay my SJW hands on" and you got a prime example of how to fuck up big time.

Yeah, not really getting the controversy at all. To me this has been a perfect Baldurs gate experience. It's everything I could have hoped for, and my hopes were very high even in the initial face of all this negativity. I find the writing on par with and in the style of the rest of the series. Safana acts exactly how her dialogue and back story painted her in the original. (Although I enjoy hey voice acting the least). Minsc is the same minus that one line. The trans character is no big deal. I am simultaneously disappointed and in disbelief that the internet reacted this way and as I play it I almost wonder if we are playing the same game.
