I would have to say none. I listern to the music and if I like it I like it and if I don't I don't and that's it. I don't even know the names of the people in the most of the bands I listern to let alone what they belive in etc not that it would matter one way or another even if I did.

this isnt my name said:
Rise against until I hared "Hero f war"

I kicked in the door
I yelled my commands
The children, they cried
But I got my man
We took him away
A bag over his face
From his family and his friends

They took off his clothes
They pissed in his hands
I told them to stop
But then I joined in
We beat him with guns
And batons not just once
But again and again

A hero of war
Yeah that's what I'll be
And when I come home
They'll be damn proud of me
I'll carry this flag
To the grave if I must
Because it's a flag that I love
And a flag that I trust

She walked through bullets and haze
I asked her to stop
I begged her to stay
But she pressed on
So I lifted my gun
And I fired away

The shells jumped through the smoke
And into the sand
That the blood now had soaked
She collapsed with a flag in her hand
A flag white as snow

Becuase thats totally what all soldier do isnt it.
Way to only quote the part of the song that fit your needs. The song is about how war isn't a glorious thing like so many young people think. As a soldier fighting in a war you have to do things that will most likely keep you up at night. The song goes on to say that all people see once the soldier got home are his medals and scars, not the inner turmoil of seeing and doing the things that he saw and had to do over there

I suddenly like system of a down a lot more now.

RE: the theme of the thread, I don't like republicans, George Bush, or country music, but when the Dixie Chicks went off on Bush, I would have quit listening to them if I ever had listened to them in the first place. I also lost respect for Green Day after "american idiot" and I lost respect for Eminem after "mosh". Pretty much whenever a singer gets political in their music I loose respect for them.

But for a band to sing about how cold rationalism is the death of real living, that is exactly what music is imho. Music is real living and the exact opposite of cold rationalism. Science is cold rationalism and not real living.
I beg to differ. Bad Religion frequently offers an intellectual challenge to the irrationality of religion frequently. There are also scientific undertones since the lead singer and one of the songwriters has a PhD in evolutionary biology

Also, what about bands that were ALWAYS political? I can agree that I lost respect for Green Day when they jumped on the political bash Bush band wagon, but if someone has been critical or commented on politics for 20 years before what then? Is it that you just don't listen to them.

Also, incredibly, this came up.

Also,(last one I swear) System of a Down is political, they are just normally subtle about it.

I used to like system of the down until I heard the song science, well heard the song and actually listened to the lyrics, one of the lines is "science fails to recognize the single most potent element of human existence, letting the reigns go to the unfolding is faith" to me that sounds like they are saying, "science sucks, yay faith" and faith is one of the more retarded things that people have, so fuck em.
Came here to post this as well.

"Science has failed our world, science has failed our mother earth."

How would one know if science had failed our world without science when science is the process by which one comes to understand the nature of the world?

"Oh my god, science and the progression of technology is causing global warming!" Oh that's interesting, how do you know about global warming? Oh yeah, science. How will we reverse it? Science, again.

Gotta love people who aren't Amish badmouthing science and technology as if it hasn't provided them with pretty much everything they have in life. Yeah, science has failed us in that it substantially reduced the childhood mortality rate so that you managed to live into adulthood and then gave you the tools necessary to broadcast your hypocritical drivel.

The single most potent element of human existence is the search for knowledge and understanding, not faith. What 'faith' means today doesn't even remotely resemble what 'faith' meant to religious people in the past, when religion and science were intertwined and religious philosophers like St Thomas Aquinas sought to logically prove the existence of God.

Not quite political, but I love Guster, everyone of their songs, up until their latest CD which was extremely religious and just a turn off.

How would you explain their line "Why cry when angels deserve to die?" in "Chop Suey"? Taking lines out of context aside, perhaps "Science" is just a commentary on the short-comings of science? How its ostensible promise of leading us into a new and better world is slightly undercut when you consider the horrors humanity has had to endure ever since the advent of the modern age? Its undervaluing of the more spiritual, intangible qualities inherent in human existence?

Just throwing that out there, feel free to agree or disagree. Honestly, System aren't even that good in my opinion, so you not listening to them certainly isn't much of a loss as far as I'm concerned. That being said, if there's one thing I'm not a fan of, it's rash decisions!
If they also didn't repeat "science has failed our world" over and over again then I might be more inclined to agree, plus it doesn't help that the song is damn catchy and I cant even think about these stupid lyrics without the damn thing getting stuck in my head. I liked it allot better before I knew what the words said.

Ugh, its the thread that wont fucken die. The only people that think science is cold and rational are people that don't know science, I know science, science is a personal friend and has much more love then any faith.
Then you would make a horrible scientist. Science is unbiased and clinical. Based on your most recent post in this thread I can Objectively say that you are neither objective nor clinical on this issue as evidenced by your use of the subjective words :"love" and "friend".
This shows two things:

First, despite what you say you believe, you clearly are not "scientific" all the time. (science is Latin for knowledge, and you are not operating on knowledge at this time, you are operating on emotion).
Second, despite what you say about subjective things like "faith", you have a great deal of faith in the usefulness of the scientific method. There are two ways to deduce that the scientific method is a useful method of inquiry. Either you admit that you have faith that the scientific method is useful (as I do), or else you use the scientific method to prove that the scientific method is useful. That would be circular reasoning. So the first one is naked faith, and the second one is covert faith.

I'm all for clinical objectivity when it is warranted. I do it all the time. But I don't have faith in it. That is just another faith based system with its own zealots who, if they are true zealots, they will remain in self denial until they see the error of their ways.

(don't argue with me on the point about proto-religious self denial or you will just be proving my point. I would recommend that you objectively attempt to dismantle the argument from the regress problem [the argument that says that science can't be used to prove itself as a valid method of inquiry] if you want to have a sophisticated argument.) ...of course, nobody has been able to dismantle that for hundreds of years...

Plus, I like music and other arts. They have more meaning when there is more to life than rationalism.
When you have to test a hypothesis you have to be rational and potentially cold about it but science is about the love, if you didn't have love for the world then why would you want to figure out how it worked, you wouldn't you would just do your little thing and wouldn't even think of ask the why and the how. You probably wouldn't even wonder what love was, you would just accept that it was there.

when i was 10 years old i liked my chemical romance (calm down i had no taste back then) they were my favorite band for like a year...then i saw them live and found out that the sucked asshole...never listened to them again (thank god)

more recently tho would be megadeth. i liked them before i found out Dave Mustain was a born again christian and prayed before going on stage. he also belives when he was a teenager he used wizard powers on people...true story

i have nothing against Christians it just takes the coolness out of thrash metal...also Mustain is a bit of an asshole

I liked Modest Mouse until I drove 500 miles to see them in concert, and Isaac Brock showed up an hour late drunk as a skunk. He then proceeded to slur his way through the concert and I couldn't even discern what song he was singing. Someone threw a plastic bottle on stage and he bitched about how it could've been a glass bottle and they don't have health insurance for a while. Then he cut himself on stage. It just pissed me off, I saw them two years before that at the same venue and they were amazing. Yes, he had a problem, but when he was doing LSD at least he showed up on time and did a great show. After that I was just sick of listening to them, too much time wasted, and since he had become an alcoholic who didn't give a shit I didn't feel like listening to them anymore.

when i was knee high to a playing card i like the scissor sisters (don't worry, i hate them now) i liked some of their earlier works, then they released uncomfortable, pretensious BS that is expected of them, and any respect i had for them evaporated like water thrown onto plasma.

I used to like Nightwish until I found out Tuomas Holopainen has some sort of twisted hardon for Walt Disney. Also if anyone starts that whole Tarja vs Anette thing again I will come round your house with Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes and beat the snot out of you, ala J&SBSB. Fact.
I'll take that challenge.

Tarja was an operatic singer doing symphonic metal. Annette Olzon is a pop singer. If you can't tell the vast musical difference between Ghost Love Score and Amaranth, there is no hope for you.

It's like Justin Timberlake suddenly being the lead singer of Disturbed. He's not a bad singer, and neither is Olzon, but the sound is off. Way off.
Yes, but the point is this arguement has been done to death all voer the internet and simply didn't need to be brought up again. Yes, OBVIOUSLY Tarja is a trained Soprano and Anette is a pop music singer. I LIKE THEM BOTH! Now back to your inflammatory Troll-hole before I put the boots to you.

I loved, and still do love, Night Wish. But I don't like their new lead singer. I listened to their music for Tarja's amazing voice - and so it's regretful that it was apparently her fault that the band removed her.

Nightwish. I used to WORSHIP that band. Now with the release of the new album "Imaginaerum" I see them as traitors.

They went from THIS:

To THIS:
Um, well I guess the album is too new to be on youtube, but...it's bad, trust me. XD

I can't think of any examples where I lost respect for a band or artist because of something they did or an album they released, not any bands/artists I like at least.

Hm.

I used to like Electric Six. One of my favourite bands for a while. Seen them live recently. Love them now.

That's probably not the kind of thing the thread is asking for though. I tried. what more can you ask for?

Foo Fighters. First three albums are gems, One By One was average/good, and In Your Honour onwards has been boring shite. Also, Josh Homme. Lullabies to Paralyse was ok (if a little boring at times), but after that it's just been the sound of a man going up his own arse. I can't believe the guitarist from a band as awesome as Kyuss (and I guess I wonder what the fuck John Paul Jones is doing too) is in something as godawful as Them Crooked Vultures.

I think this was System of a Down, but there was a group where i kind of liked the music but my opinion stagnated when i found out the lead singer was a vegan and supported PETA. PETA is one of those groups i file in the same category as the Westboro Baptist Church, a group that claims to stand for something but is really nothing more than a brace of hypocritical attention whores.

Also, i kind of liked Drowning Pool until they changed lead vocals. But other than that, i don't always follow bands and just listen to music, because even Rolling Stones has their ups and downs.

I used to tolorate the Dixie Chicks, then they said that because of Bush, they were embarrased to be Americans. Ladies, I get it, you didnt like the guy, most people didnt (I like him though). But to say that you hat being American, just because of Bush? If you REALLY feel that way, you know you can renounce your citizenship, right?
