Except it is included you just have to download it. The 360 is an old system, its been going on for seven years why wouldn't people expect this to happen now? PC gamers constantly upgrade their computers usually only being about 2-3 years outdated at the most compared to the xbox 360.

Why do the visuals mean more you than the actual gameplay? If you care so much about how your game looks you should A) Just get the texture pack or B) not get it for consoles. Xbox's are about 7 years old now, and they weren't that high end when they were released either. Not to mention DVD storage restrictions.

If you're going to give a game a pass on the basis that it looks ugly without a texture pack that's optional AND free to download, then your loss.

Jesus Christ... I saw this coming. BF3 hyped up majorly and deserves its praise for the PC version.

Doesn't excuse it for a crappy console version. It was built for PC you say? Well PC players ***** and moan over shitty console ports I'll let them hear the same thing in every thread about BF3 when its the other way around.

Looks like MW3 will win in both quality and quantity for 2/3rds of the industry.
The HD texture pack is included dude. Its not the developers fault that Microsoft rather keep using the 360 instead of developing new hardware. The Xbox 360 came out in 2005 and you expect it to keep handling more intense graphics every year? There is a reason my old gaming PC from 2004 can't run anything new nowadays, its called outdated which the 360 is.

We've dealt with shoddy consoles ports for almost four years now and when a game comes out that the outdated console that used outdated DVDs with limited space wants you to download an HD texture pack to handle a 2011 game(almost 2012 game) you're upset? Seriously that makes no sense and this is hardly anything as bad as anything we the PC gamers have endured with the consoles ports we've been handed for the past four years.

By the way before you call me a PC elitist since everyone seems too on these forums I own a PS3, Xbox360 and a gaming PC.

it is included but you have to download it from somewhere else to get it on the system....

rethink.
Still implying that it isn't included, its there for you to download and free of charge. DVDs have a limited amount of capacity they can hold before there is no more space available.

Whats the problem here?

Another proof that Xbox 360 and it's lack of disk space is dragging the industry down. Does Microsoft have the permission to use BluRay technology, or can we expect the same from next Xbox console? And why are we still using disks anyway? You can put more data on a USB flash drive these days.

I don't expect them to put the newest state of the art graphics. I do expect them to put competent graphics.

And "well we've had shit to deal with" doesn't exactly make the other shit much better for me. It's wrong to shaft PC players when porting console stuff over and it's equally wrong to do it vice versa. I for one still have a 12 MB hard drive that I must continually manage space to have maybe one demo at a time (the original beta download forcing some deletion of old stuff for example). Developers have to consider the audience they're selling it to.

There is a big reason between looking ugly and looking like...that. It looks like someone smeared a stick of butter on my TV screen. If a big part of your hype is how pretty your game is, I expect a game that doesn't look so damn blurry.

I wish they'd have shown a better example of this but I'm confident that online play will be affected (my primary reason for games of this nature). If someone's hiding far in the distance, a blurry mess will make it much harder for me to spot said bad guy. If you've played FPS's on a HD-TV and then went back to a SD-TV, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Lastly, it made me look more into the game and realize the online pass thing. Granted, that would only get them a few bucks out of me for renting it and not buying it (since if I can't give the mp a try, I doubt I'd throw down the cash for the full game) but now I doubt I'll even give the game a chance until that price plummets.

It has nothing to do with PC development and everything to do with the fact that DVD's don't hold shit compared to blu rays. Last I checked, the PS3 doesn't require an extra downloaded texture pack. It's the same bloody game except you need to download a texture pack, at least with the Xbox.

Exactly the point, people need to stop pointing fingers at DICE and realize that Microsoft needs to develop new hardware already.

Except you didn't get shafted! You have the texture pack available so you complaining makes no sense to me! The DVD ran out of space so they made a download available that isn't the Developers fault. You need to channel your complaints at Microsoft and not DICE because most consoles only last about five years before they release new hardware.

Now I could be incorrect, but I doubt that if I rented the game from RedBox, I would get both discs I need to run it in HD (Not to mention online pass...). All four of us are now skipping this release.

Sure, it's four people, but how many times will this situation come up for CoD players who back down because of this.
I was going to get it for PC, and up to 6 of my friends where going to get it for Various systems. But after origin, the Beta, and this, we're all giving it a miss, Like you, we all started really playing shooters with CoD4. (We played halo 3 a lot as well at the time, but CoD4 stood better). so That's $600 between us EA are losing

not everyone gets the option to have the hd textures if they dont have a hard drive or the space on there hard drives. if they were already on the disc then a download is totally unnecessary ergo some customers are losing out on something they payed for by virtue of not have the necessary hardware to get HD textures as they are....not included on the disc. enjoy being on my ignore list i feel dumber having to explain this to you -_-.
I got exactly what you were saying in your post but saying its not included is wrong. It ran out of space and was put up for download, nothing wrong with that when they're limited to how much the DVD can fit.

Great mature response too for putting on ignore for just giving you an opinion without insulting you. I can tell you're a real mature upstanding citizen!

Once again, all it takes is a small install and you get your "HD"[footnote]I put it in quotations because consoles lack the processing power to render in true HD[/footnote], I don't see how it's a problem.

BTW, do you guys even know how large the texture pack is?

1.5 GB.

Anyway you look at it - that is really not much. Even a 4GB Xbox will be able to run it.

Good job at making it a sensationalist article by holding back details, dude.
Huh, ain't that bad. I mean, battlefield still isn't a launch buy for me on account of other awesome things coming out (SAINTS F***ING ROW 3!) and me not actually being excited for BF3 (I feel like I should be, but I just ain't) but this means I won't never be getting it, which is more than I can say for RAGE which says "use up 20gb of hard drive space or face damn-near broken-ness!". By the way, ID, if you pull this crap when it comes round to doom 4, I'm getting a BFG and shooting it up yo asses.

I stated why it's a problem in my first post. We were not buying the game, we were renting the game. The rental does not come with the HD texture disk. Maybe it's a game for the already converted but I'm not going to throw down the money on a gamble, there are too many great games coming out in November.

Space is not a problem for me. I won a month ago the "Escape from the Haunted Mansion" game on the Escapist (Thanks Escapist!) and got the 250GB hard drive. Us renting a game that will not give us the full game is the problem.

Now considering the topic is about the fact that the game requires a small install to get decent visual quality, the assumption was that "until this was realized" was referring to said graphical quality. The online pass excuse is valid, since publishers and dev's are being dicks about rentals/trade ins, but using the "It's not good looking" excuse is petty.

Yeah another point for the PC master race! We have to celebrate our wins whenever we can, because they're so rare now!
As an ex-pc gamer of 10 years under my belt, I salute you! It's only a matter of time before I reconvert to the PC once again! Although I do like the benefits of no cheats, hackers, modded online, having to upgrade every year, stupid game clients & managers, everybody using different input and systems...

Actually, I might just ride out this 360 & get the next console too; but still go ahead with a new PC for games like Starcraft 2 & Skyrim.

- Console is the way of gaming now; and I actually doubt that will change. PC gaming is for strategies, content customisability and pretty much a novelty now. Hence, just today I installed the original Rainbow Six!!! But it didn't work so I played RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 instead; then some Halo: Reach.

Nostalgia FTW!

I don't understand why they even have these two different texture packs. Why not have it default for the game?
Because they can't fit it on the disc. You have to download it instead.

Otherwise, it looks like Half-life 2 has comparable graphics to the non-HD version. That's not a good thing, EA.
How dare a game not use the 360 as the lead platform and hold the other platforms back, eh?
