Watching the escapist's review of Bayonetta today compelled me to play a demo of it that I had from an xbox magazine demo disk. I hadn't tried it so far because, frankly, I wasn't interested, but the positive review it got here combined with its metacritic score of 90, made me want to try it.

It was, to put it bluntly, terrible. I never understood how exactly the main character was supposed to be attractive with her odd proportions and preposterous outfit/hairdo, and seeing her in action only made it worse. The combat was completely clusterfucky, and the music was so bad that I had to turn it off. I played both levels of the demo and was completely unimpressed.

My question is this. Why does everybody like it so much? A few of my friends tried the demo before me and didn't like it either, and the almost universal acclaim it's had is utterly baffling to me? Am I looking at it the wrong way, or is it just not aimed at me?

Maybe the game just isn't for you. I don't care for that type of game either, but I keep my mouth shut since I have nothing good to say.
Not all games are one size fit all...there is a reason I hate Halo and half a billion 7 year olds love it. We have different tastes.

Obviously you didn't like it. I don't like Call of Duty but people seem to play it all the time.

Plus, the demo isn't the real game. I've played the real game on day one and the demo isn't an accurate representation of the finished product, which is much more contained and controlled at the beginning.

Also, you're either supposed to find Bayonetta attractive, or laugh at how hard she's trying to seduce the player. You're taking the game too seriously from what I'm guessing.

You don't understand because you have the ability to have an opinion. You are going to like shit games and popular games, your friends will be the same. Like me. I didn't like GTA 4, Arkham Asylum(Batman's a favorite though), or fable 2, but I loved every halo game, And modern warfare is one of my favorite games of all time. We all just have different tastes

If I had time to play it I'd buy the hell out of Bayonetta. The demo was a ton of fun. I really love the acrobatic and fluid combat.

Not everyone has the same taste in games I guess. I'm an RPG fan that hated Fallout 3! How weird is that?

I've been a fan of DMC since the original on PS2 and I was quite taken aback by Bayonetta. While I like the combat system, that fact that her clothes come off the more combos you get I thought was a bit... ridiculous. I get the stereotype that gamers are all horny nerds sitting in their parents basement but do developers really need to encourage it? Maybe I'm a prude and I'm taking it too seriously but if there were a option to keep her clothed, it might be a bit better :p

Also, in regards to Metallica's comment about Fallout 3, I've been in love with RPGs since Dragon Warrior and I was very disappointed with it as well. Might be because I also love Fallout 1 and 2 and didn't feel 3 really held all that well to what had been put out there previously. Just goes to show you what happens when the original companies behind a franchise fold.

yeah bayonetta is not my cup of tea, but i guess it seems okay, so i didn't continue further and looked to demon's souls to find a copy for me to buy

this is gonna happen alot..id have to agree with some ppl on here, i loveee rpg's, however i tend to hate the expansive sandbox ones, i can't quite put my finger on it why, but in an rpg i love the fucking stories and semi grinding (unless its bioware), and those freeroam and expansive games tend to be a single player, while i love having a party (where i can switch characters and what not) so those rpg's i tend to stick to, but i dont know what you could quite lable that under, just personal preference, so i really wouldn't worry about it, just stick with what you like and dont get worked up on other peoples reviews

Not that weird. I found it too much of a throwback to a single player MMO, but I did love the music.

Also didn't really like Bioshock.

Bayonetta was disappointing. And it was from Platinum games. And they made the excellent Madworld. So I'm saying, "They made this game!?" Madworld was far better.

Niether did I.
7 Hours of fetch quests, with a long escort mission at the end, a shitty bossfight and a piss poor ending?
I think the worst thing was the feeling you were walking through an art gallery and you had to APPRECIATE all the work in there. Too much style and not enough substance. System Shock 2 did it way better imho.

I personally liked that part, but not in the horny gamer way. She looks a little too much like Sarah Palin for that effect. But more so in the sense that Bayonetta is a character who's powers are fed on the her sexuality. This article explains kinda of wait I'm getting at a bit better. http://www.gamepro.com/article/features/213466/bayonetta-empowering-or-exploitative/

Favorable reviews got me to buy and play a bit of Prototype. That was a mistake, played a few hours and got bored of the game.

It's an opinion. Don't worry, it's not illegal or anything. Not here, at least...

I wasn't a big fan of the demo either (and, as I've said before, I think Bayonetta looks like a giraffe.) It's just not my kind of game though. Never been a fan of Spectacle Fighters, and Bayonetta hasn't changed that.

I could ask the thing about Killzone 2, Infamous, Dragon Age Origins and so on..
I have to say, I love your avatar.

It's all how each person perceives it. You don't like some ppluar titles as you stated, I like one of them.

Everyone is different, which is why it annoys me when someone says something just sucks outright.

People need to stop stating opinion/preference as solid fact.

I own both and have never replayed either. Just couldn't get into Fallout 3's setting at all... too bland. Bioshock is incredibly overrated imo.

Everyone is drooling over it for the same exact reason why they drooled over Dragon Age: Origins and COD: Modern Warfare 2 and every Final Fantasy game -

ADVERTISING

Everyone saw all the pretty lights and fancy graphics and the hawt woman bouncing around and all the OBVIOUS Devil May Cry "inspirations" and were probably instantly sold on it from there.

Agreed. Fallout 3 just didn't capture the atmosphere of the older games.

Also, did anyone else think Bioshock's environments looked like something out of an "Eye Spy" book?

I am 100% with you word for freakin' word, my friend. I just don't see sexy, fast action, thrills, and fun. I tried the demo on XBL, I tried to "get it" when journalists gushed over how "well designed" and "sexy" the protagonist is supposed to be, but the goofy mixture of schoolmarm, Sarah Palin, and the stunningly hideous hairsuit/gunshoes thing put me off from the start. In all honesty, the first time I saw her I thought it was a photoshopped gag.

The game play felt like more Devil May Cry clone-a-majig at work, but the shooting around at targets in all directions was sorta neat... even if she looked like an idiot whirling her legs around the way she did.

Bah! To each their own.
