Thermal paste? Use Arctic Cooling 5. It's what I use and my overclocked Athlon X2 I used to use could go up to 3.5 GHz and idle at about 28C. It was ridiculous.

Slight bump, but I've run into a problem. Fan arrived fine, and I've taken the old fan out, but I've run into a snag. The fan has four clips at the bottom, as seen here:

...but the problem is that while there are four holes, they aren't in a square - more a rectangle. On one guide, the motherboard has several holes:

...while mine are more rectangular then that. Which is a bit of a bugger.

Any advice, peeps?

... you did get the right type of fan for your motherboard's socket, right? Your last image isn't showing up, for the record.

I don't believe I did, which is massively frustrating. I honestly didn't think it made a difference.

The third picture was just a motherboard with the holes in a rectangle. I'll see if I can find another.

EDIT: Nope, can't find an image. That's very worrying. What type of motherboard did they use when they built my machine?

Ha, now you tell me. I'm gonna have to go back to the old one until I can work something out.

I am aware that is for LGA775 (otherwise known as Intel socket) boards but alot of the heatsinks mentioned can also fit on AMD sockets. I am sure if you search, HEXUS has a similar comparison for AMD.

The next page has the list under load. I trust HEXUS so use that to help you out. The Intel they use is a Pentium Extreme Edition 3.2ghz.

Ok, so here's the situation. I've put the old Scythe back in for the time being, and it's back to how it was. The new problem (oh what fun I'm having) is with the case fan. Quite simply, it was falling apart. So I went out and bought a new one.

This one. [http://www.arctic-cooling.com/fans2.php?idx=54]

Problem is, even though it's plugged in, nothing's happening. On the box, it just says 'Attach the power plug to the mainboard', and even though I've tried plugging the 3-pin connection into both available slots, the fan does nothing.

Is it supposed to start by not spinning and then warm up or something, or have I just got a duffer?

...that I haven't tried. I don't actually have a thingy to 3 pin, so is there anything else I can try? Or should I just give up and buy a standard fan instead?
