Best "Non Final Fantasy" JRPG Ever?

Tales of Symphonia
Real-time combat, good music, likable characters, a cast where everyone actually does something great to prove that they can be classified as a hero, a story that goes somewhere.
I really liked it, in fact, it actually got me interested in playing more JRPGs.

Lost Odyssey, fantastic game in my opinion. Had some excellent characters and felt very epic.

It certainly made me empathise with the characters which is a job well done in my book.

The entire Shin Megami Tensei Series, Golden Sun (both), Resonance Of Fate, the Tales series (Despite Namco Bandai being massive assholes about sending their games to the US), and the second two Shadow Hearts games are all ranked as some of my all time favorites.

If we include Japanese-made tactics games, then Tactics Ogre: The Knight Of Lodis gets added to the list.

1: The Pokemon series. Depends on how Black and White are, but for now, I'm gonna say Heartgold. Best game with every Pokemon.
2: The Paper Mario games. Different from most JRPGs, but very entertaining. Thousand Year Door is my personal favorite.
3: Chrono Trigger. You practically NEED to play this game if you are a fan of JRPGs.
4: Skies of Arcadia. Reason #16 that pirates > ninjas.
5: Tales of Symphonia. Takes a little time to get going (even by JRPG standards), but once it does, it's a hell of a ride.

I would have to say Tales of Vesperia. I remember playing the first time after I beat what I thought was the final boss, turns out I was only a third of the way through the game. But Golden Sun: The Lost Age does take a close second.

Pokemon First Generation or Dragon Age 8.

Persona, Persona, Persona, Persona, Persona.

I want to play Persona 3 and 4 so bad. I keep hearing that they're good.

Thank god that a used PS2 will only set someone back about $50-$70 and both recent Persona games are only about $15-$20 thanks in part to Atlus being awesome and releasing FES at only $30.

If you are a fan of JRPGs, then you owe it to yourself to buy either 3:FES or 4 and enjoy the hell out of it. They are some of the best JRPGs in recent memory.

It just did so many things fresh, and a battle system that invoked a gleeful grin rather then a groan when you hit a encounter.

Lost Odyssey is just the best jrpg ever.

I dont like how it says "best NON Final Fantasy game" because Lost Odyssey is far far superior to Final Fantasy.
