Depends how I'm feeling.

Playing through pokemon red at the moment and its freaking brilliant. know why? i've figured out the battle system with its many holes and flaws, so when i'm not stun-locking a pokemon with a hypnosis-dreameater combo, i'm getting a 99.5% critical chance hit with another pokemon. Its just fun.

Pokemon White/Black have by far been my favourite games though. To play through this is. probably because i couldn't stand Diamond and Pearl. This does come very closely with Ruby/Sapphire though, whose characters were also somewhat endearing (probably why i didn't like diamond and pearl because your "best friend and rival" was a complete berk whose hairstyle perfectly hid the two cocks growing from his skull and the pokemon proffessor didn't even seem to acknowledge you existed half the time).

Pokemon Online though is by far the best to play on though for battling experience. It is very enjoyable once you get the hang of the insanely complicated tactics you sometimes need in order to win the occasional game. Then you get better and figure out which tactics are universally more useful than others and which you prefer using anyway. Oh, and when you learn to stop entering "acupressure shuckles" in as your trump cards into tournaments, because you'll just end up getting disqualified. stupid evasion rule.

decision isn't hard at all. Gold, silver, and crystal were the best by far

My Pokemon story is kind of weird. It started with Red/Blue(I don't remember which one is mine and which is my brother's), and we both enjoyed them for both the mechanics and the fact that we could actually use our link cable for something other than Tetris.

After that, we pretty much dropped Pokemon. I ended up picking up Pearl, but I didn't like it that much. My buddies started talking about white/black, so I picked up white, and pretty much just said, this is something I can enjoy.

I'm not sure if it's Red or White.

I do know that the GTS is pretty damn silly for the most part. I'm not going to trade a level 70 legendary for a level 20 just because it's not in my copy. I'll offer my exclusive Solosts(fresh from the bushes) for a Gothica. 30 minutes later I picked up my Gothica.

Im going to step up to the plate as most likely the first person to say: I liked the new black and white the best (I got black)
Its because the story was a bit above the usual, it broke away from the conventions, and of course, it has the most Pokemon.
That, and the C-Gear was the BEST use of the bottom screen since Pearl and Diamond.

Anyone else here a Sapphire version fan?

Sure, they only had the Battle Tower at the time, but it was quite a fun game, with all the necessary gameplay that we could've wanted at the time. It was fun being able to explore the depths of the oceans of Hoenn with Dive (something I don't think we've been able to do since, but I may be wrong, we might've had to do that in Firered/Leafgreen to get Articuno, so don't quote me on that), and the storyline was engaging and fun. (Although for the record Team Aqua all the way!) Also, Swampert killed pretty much everything I faced in the Battle Tower.

I really like the remakes. Leaf Green and Soul Silver were great. You had the old nostalgic feel with the updated system so it's easier to play and more fun. I am really enjoying White though. It does a good job of making it fresh again with nothing but new pokemon, and I like a lot of the new ones too.

Haha, funny though. I grew up with Red and Blue on my old grey fat gameboy and I still prefer most of the newer games. So yeah, ranking them as:
Soul Silver
Leaf Green
White
Silver
Red
Sapphire
Pearl.
I didn't like 4th gen. At all. Barely even bothered to beat it.

White. Each iteration adds more complexity to the competitive game, so I will always go with the most recent one.

I can understand people who think that the original ones were best, but nobody in the competitive community feels that way.

Both.

Each time they add viable new Pokemon to the game it increases the variety of the teams that you will face in competitive play, which makes it infinitely more interesting.

However, the "joke" Pokemon and the fan favorites that after 5 generations they refuse to make better (Flareon comes to mind) really serve no other purpose than increasing the collection aspect of the game and opening it up for merchandising.

Here's how it breaks down for me

2nd Gen Gold/Silver
1st Gen Red/Blue(Green)
5th Gen Black/White
3rd Gen Ruby/Sapphire
4th Gen Diamond/Pearl

gold/silver; despite having the worst starters IMO. just goes to show how good it was i guess; aside from starters, the other pokemon were all neat, getting to ho-oh was a fun challenge, and you effectively got to fight YOURSELF from the past game, which was a really awesome mindscrewy kind of moment.

Black is pretty intense. I'm digging it.
What about it do you like most? :)
The constant animation of the sprites, the moving camera, the rotation battles, the triple battles, the new moves, the new Pokemon, the increased strategy... honestly, I love everything about it.

Pokemon crystal by far.

Played it for almost 300 hours, and I ordered it again of amazon tonight.

Nothing beats nostalgia... ever.

Tough, a toss-up between Ruby/Sapphire for it's change from the "traditional" mountainous plains to the more tropical Island setting. Plus Torchic is adorable, Treeko is a blade-wielding gecko, and I liek Mudkipz. But White is also close, if not beating Gen. 3.
