I decided to take a break from attempting to complete the game and find some good weapons. Any suggestions?

Depends on the type you use for your character.

My favorites for Energy Weapons were: The YCS/186 Gauss rifle (found at the Mercenary camp east of Brooks Tumbleweed Ranch), and Elijah's advanced LAER (Need OWB, found on the roof of the Signal Hills Transmitter).

Sniper Rifles: Gobi Campaign scout rifle (Found at the Sniper?s Nest) and Anti-materiel rifle (Can be bought from the Vendortron if the player's level is at least 16).

Also in energy weapons, the Q-35 Matter Modulator. You can pick it up at the Repconn HQ, which becomes easier if your character is very lucky or very stupid. The thing has high damage, relatively low energy usage, a high crit rate, and absurd crit damage. It's an all-around reliable gun.

A second vote for the anti mat rifle, absurdly powerful if a bit unweildy. Can't say I ever found a weapon I was happy with mind, armour just seemed too strong in that game.

Lucky

A brilliant little .357 revolver. It looks great and has a huge critical hit chance.

It's in a hard safe in the Bison Steve, it's one of, if not the first unique weapon I alway try and get first.

It's my favourite sidearm in the game, and it fits my Courier's play style (she has 9 in the luck attribute).

A like pistols. So I go with A Light Shining In The Darkness.

2nd place: 12.7 mm SMG. It's not some whimpy "kill 'em with bug bites" SMG. It's pretty much an Assault Rifle, and a god damn powerful one at that.

For melee: The GRA Katana, fully modded.

I prefer to fight up close and personal. Sniper Rifles are for risk-averse pansies.

I've done three playthroughs with Lucky. Love that gun. Using that with the Courier's Duster you get from Lonesome Road is AMAZING. Your back and gun both have a Club on it. Onlt draw back is that it has a door loader instead of the Mysterious Revolver which used a speed loader.

For my favorite non-unique weapon, I'd have to say the Lever-Action shotgun. The aesthetic of it is great if you're playing a Wasteland cowboy like I almost always end up doing no matter what I tell myself at the beginning.

Well that's another reason I like it.

Reloading a revolver round by round is like gun porn for me.

Revolver Ocelot style.

For pistols "That gun" is pretty good but I mostly use energy weapons so I lean towards the YCS/186 Gauss rifle. Also for melee the "Oh, Baby!" is good. Also on the not of NV can anyone tell me if the DLC is worth it? Also how big is the file because it takes a while to Download stuff at my house?

Fun Fact, I did a Revolver Ocelot character once. Wore a duster and carried every different revolver I could find with me. Go around VATS'ing guns out of people's hands while doing each factions' quest while secretly plotting to take over Vegas for myself... Good times

I don't remember which DLC it was, but there's a non-unique version of "That Gun" simply called the 12.7mm Pistol. It's got the second highest handgun, surpassed only by "A Light Shining In The Darkness"

It's a great game. You can pretty much play any character you want to.

I should get around to playing it again. Think I'll reroll my Western Samurai. She'll wear a Bounty hunter's duster, a slave scarf and predominantly use Lucky and a katana.

Seriously, how awesome is Gun Runners' Arsenal? Not many DLC would go back and retroactively fix content to make it better. They added mods to weapons that already existed, even the Baseball Bat of all things.

Yeah, it's a great addition, especially since I can mod the Anti-mat rifle now and it adds a unique Brush gun to the game.

Not to mention the great new Challenges it adds.

A Slave Obeys - Killing House with a Gold Club

Dyin' Ain't Much of a Livin - Kill members of a Legion or NCR hit squad with weapons affected by the Cowboy Perk

Even a God-King Can Bleed - Cripple Caesar's Head with a Throwing Spear

The Same Can Be Said For All Religious Weapons - Kill feral ghouls with either Maria, Gehenna, or Holy hand Grenades

The references are great and adds to the light heartedness of the Late Game when you're just kind of screwing around.

Hunting Shotgun

Because I never get tired of pump-action shotguns, and the absence of one was probably my main gripe with Fallout 3.

Once my Guns skill gets to 100, you'd be hard-pressed to pull me away from my riot shotgun.

Oh that's easy, Mercy. I can't remember exactly where it's at, but it's a 40mm grenade machinegun, and it kills everything. I'm also rather fond of the Tesla cannons. Best weapon ever though? I think it requires some mod, but it's a .308 version of the Marksman Carbine, and it's beastly.
