But, but, but, what if I was expecting the perfect combination of Daggerfall and Morrowind?
You mean blend an actually playable game, with Morrowind?.

Joking aside, what you are asking for is simply not feasible. The pros and cons of the series from Daggerfall to Oblivion is this; Daggerfall's biblical quantities of factions, quests and locations came at the expense of a lot of it being unplayable and the locations themselves being pretty bland -> Morrowind's great environments and unique dungeons came at the cost of pretty much everything else (including playability) -> While the technical achievements, playability and combat of Oblivion came at the expense of the dungeons being samey and the environments less unique (although that might be chalked up as difference of taste, low-fantasy vs. high-fantasy and all that).

So while they have been really good at improving the series with each iteration, what you are expecting might only come later on (maybe with the seventh TES-game, or more), as being capable of making a game where they can dedicate as much time and resources as they want on each aspect would be the apotheosis of game-development. Something we probably won't see for a while, at least, until graphics (the most time/resource-consuming aspect of game-development) plateau and developers can focus their entire time on everything else.

So, I can upgrade my favorite looking armor to competent levels and not gimp my character heavily?

WOO!

Allow me to describe it better. It will be like having sex with a supermodel in a warm jacuzzi filled with cookies and milk while listening to your favorite song and hearing her say that your favorite game just announced a sequal being made by all your favorite developers.
So wait....playing Skyrim will be like having sex with a supermodel in a warm jacuzzi filled with cookies and milk while listening to your favorite song and hearing her say that the combined might of Bethesda Bioware and Valve are going to be making a sequel to Skyrim!

If that's true then this will be an awesome game!

Judging by the gameplay footage I've seen, it will be like playing Fallout 3, but with slightly less boring combat and noticeably-better-but-still-not-that-great animation.

Heh. Somehow I don't see myself being hired by Bethesda's marketing department anytime soon.

This in combination with the falloutNV "hardcore" system can result in a stairway to heaven.
Fallout New Vegas hardcore mode was a joke. This in combination with Fallout 3 - Wanderers Edition in the other hand...
More crafting is better in my opinion but I wonder if we will have the option to enchante our equipment like in Oblivion.

You can. There are three crafting type skills:
Smithing for swords and armors (for the warriors)
Alchemy for potions and poisons (for the stealth based characters)
Enchanting (for mages).
You can use all of these skills right away I believe but you'll probably end up specializing in one field of combat and focus on one of these.
Or create some awesome hybrid!

Oddly enough, this is the first thing I've read about Skyrim that makes me not want to play it.

Crafting is extremely boring and tedious in games...especially when you have limited storage capacity and basically have to manage inventory as well as storage boxes away from town. Factor this in the weight of ore against your carrying capacity and there's lots of potential here for weak gameplay. I can only hope they prove me wrong.

I also preferred the lock pick system in Oblivion over Fallout, but to each their own.

Can't complain about 'better' inventory management system in place though, hopefully that'll address my above concern to some degree. Personally, I wish they'd take things like crafting/alchemy systems and just remove the weight and carrying capacity associated with such things. If my character ends up walking around with 514 watermelons by end game, so be it...unrealistic but in a fun way.

Why do people keep bringing WoW up? These features were in games before WoW you know. Gothic primarily.

Then don't do the crafting. What about us who DO like it?

If the deer or similar thing isn't in Skyrim to veer me off my quest I'm going to be a very unhappy bunny.
