To be fair, there's only like a 50% chance of there being boobs on the front page on any given day.

I find it far more irritating that this: http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&q=%22half-life%22#/d17xxe2 is among the most popular results for Half-Life, while this: http://browse.deviantart.com/?q=%22half-life%22&order=9&offset=96#/d2zo78r is buried pages down.
To be fair, that is quite a tasteful stamp.

Thanks for giving me the definitive reason not to create an account on that site.

Maybe I'll just have to create my own little blogspot.

Men in general has gotten quite far now we only look at pictures (at a place you can really claim it was an accident to click...). If men wouldn't gotten this far you probably see men trying to hump just about anything... Only reason men don't they've been told of ;-) (stop humping that car or you're not gettin' any...)

And it's either pathetic or entertaining that a part of human body can attract so much attention..(or maybe entertainingly pathetic). But yes been on DeviantArt and a lot of space is wasted on crap "art"...

But there is so many great artist around there so when my ego start to become a problem I just go on there and see my "art" is not that good... An occasional bewb I can "stand" since I don't have to click it, probably click it anyway though ;-) bewbs wins! (This just just proves my point... men are horny b*stards...Sigh)

Try evolution.

It's an evolved behavior.

Men are not 'pathetic' for finding breasts to be a sexually appealing part of the human body; nor are most men likely to 'hump anything that moves.' Both are sexist.

My roommate makes a game out of looking at the tits on Deviant-art. The primary reason she doesn't like DA is because all of her critique is "Hey, That's a dude from Bleach! You did him pretty kickass!"

That's it.(If you want to see it) [http://aeilis.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24#/d399kkl]

Though, to be fair, maybe a little further detailing on that hand is all I can think of to critique her with. I aint no artist, and she's a NSCAD student.

Hmm. I knew this was a problem a few years ago (I joined DA ages ago, and have been fairly inactive ever since I left high school) but from what I saw of the community it was pretty good.

you're saying it's infested with trolls and people complaining? That's unfortunate, but at least if you ignore the obvious crap there is still a bunch of really cool artists on there.
Well if you go by commenting on art then yeah people are awesome. I've only had one troll come onto one of my deviations and leave a "u suk. u mad?" posting. No one took the bait and he crawled back under his rock.

But the forums. Wow. At some point they learned that if they piss people off on the forums people will come look at their page. A page that is invariably full of bad photography or bad drawings because if they were any good at what they were doing they wouldn't need to troll to get the pages views they crave. So, right now, the forums look like Youtube and 4chan.

Where deviantart is concerned i'm never sure how to approach it. I mainly go for the webcomics. I'm no connoisseur of art, i understand people are putting meaning and feeling into paintings but usually they don't strike me and it goes over my head. Your problem with deviantart is apparently a common one. I will say this though. Those ones that get 6,000 views, thats all they're ever gonna get. At least from me... Artist with good art i will watch and follow and browse their gallery. The tits burn brightly but only until the next pair take their place, your good work will be looked at again and again. One hopes anyway.

Which web comics do you read? I'm always interested in getting into some new ones.

My girlfriend and I are working on our own. I'm writing it as a book currently and when I'm done she'll webcomic it with her art fu. She's an animator and even wants to do animation in some of the fight scene panels.

It'll be titled Doomsday High. It'll be an action/comedy about a high school for super villains. It's an idea that's been rolling around in my head for years. What's slowing me down right now is fear that, after all this time planning it, that it wont turn out as good as I'd hoped.

Now, in case anyone isn't familiar with Deviantart. It's an artist community site for people to post their art, crafts, photography and to socialize with each other through comments, letters, and on the forums. (Don't EVER actually set foot in the forums it's the GREATEST hot bed of trolls you can imagine)

Every day for the past week I've been checking out the daily most viewed art here on Deviantart. I've noticed a trend...

"I've been working on my art since I was old enough to draw and I spent a week on this oil painting. It's the greatest thing I've ever made. Wow it got 1000 views today!"

"Well I've got boobs and I took a picture of them in my bathroom mirror this morning. I've got 6000 views today!! ;D"

I don't care that these pictures exist. But with porn, literally, only two or three clicks away why are these pictures so popular on here? It's a fantastic insult to people whose art actually takes time and skill to create.

On a side note, I don't think of myself as an artist. I just make simple geeky crafts >_< I have great envy and respect for real artists... I would duel one to the death if I could take their quickening and steal their art skills....

There can only be one!
DA can be such a joke of a art site sometimes I find a lot of the people there are really shallow and won't comment on others work and it isn't uncommon to have your work buried and never get seen. I recommend newgrounds the standards are much higher there and the quality of art tends to be much higher plus it is a great community a lot of funny people as well as talented artists

http://www.newgrounds.com/art/

If you want to add me I will comment n look at your stuff sometime.

I do use deviantart on a regular basis and while there are a lot of pics basically saying "look at my massive boobs!" and getting lots of views and positive comments (along with a lot of kinda creepy ones which i actually find more worrying than the person whos willing to post random nude pics online) theres also been a lot of guys doing it lately.

Now i keep up from time to time with the fetish sections (im not going into my sex life here) and its worrying not only how many people seem to think posting lots of naked pics of themselves is a great idea to do, its not just women doing it, yet ive never seen a single complaint about it, its always about the naked women and not the naked men.

Also, have u seen some of the freak stuff that gets posted???
What amounts to soft porn always seems to get the focus, but dear lordi is there some worse stuff. And its not just pictures, ive read some messed up stories on that place, but its the internet, any site with attract its share of creepy people.

As with my original point as i got sidetracked, distracting and sometimes annoying, but i dont see the fuss over it, if they want to show how shallow they r by been popular cause they take their clothes off, fine, but dont focus on what is probably the most tolerated part of that group.

As for it taking it away from good artists, other good artists do that, ive found some of the best artists i follow by luck not by looking on the most viewed pages. Some did go onto be well known, but some arent often seen as theres people with hordes of watchers that clog up the front page no matter what it is they post.

Because they're there.

It's that damn simple.

The VAST majority of men like boobs. And will gladly look at them. Doesn't matter where they are. If boobs were on Devientart, why would we ignore that, and go someplace else with boobs? We do both.

This would be less of a problem if nudity wasn't made into such a big deal, especially in the US. Without all this fear of nudity there would be no shock value, controversy, whining about values, decency etc etc. People showing bare skin would then be less interesting and camwhores and such would get less views.

Granted, we have a biological attraction to boobs so they would still remain a popular theme, but perhaps just as one awesome thing among all the other awesome things we take a liking to.

Boobs or not, attention whores are here to stay, though. They'd just find another controversial theme or whatever it is that gives them the views they crave for, and we'd continue to love and hate (mostly hate) them like we always do.

This is true. A lot of people without bewbs, or with ones no one wants to see, will go onto the Deviantart forums and post a one word reply in... EVERY topic and many will troll shamelessly. All to get page views.

And it works.

Personally I couldn't care less about views, or even favorites. I like comments. I don't feel the need to respond to each of them like many do but I do read and enjoy all of them.

just the popular ones. Humon's one "Scandinavia and the world" and "Niels", Dobson's "so you want to be a cartoonist?" and "brentalfloss", Acero Tiburon's stuff and a few pony comics mostly Veggie55 and Tamyra's comic that she doesn't have a name for and hasn't updated in forever...

I'd complain that people shouldn't post photography on Deviantart because, while a form of visual communication, it isn't art in the truest sense of requiring vision, craftmanship, and manual work.

But then again half of the stuff on Deviantart is Sonic fan-creation yaoi drawn in felt-tips, so so much for that argument. Nuke the whole damn site, I say!

Because it's "art." And it just so happens to bear the mark of "edgy art."

It's the same reason why shit like this is allowed on Youtube.

Try and watch that without laughing. I dare you.

Oh hey, look, I found your problem.

It's DeviantArt.

I used to post a lot of material there until I realized how utterly pointless the site really was.

I stopped going to deviantart once they changed their Terms of Service to include using people's artwork to do what the hell they want without having to give credit to them in third-party usage.

OT: Still, I do draw. But to think that some little teenage camwhore will get more exposure than I could ever dream of infuriates me more than anything!

How did this thread not end at reply #1 with "because boobs dude, because boobs."?

Seriously, it's because boobs.
