"BFG syndrome" is a horrible name IMO but while there is no kill like overkill [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill], I prefer cherry tapping over using an RPG to kill a mouse.
Nice link choice there.

Most of the obvious ones have already been mentioned.

If we weren't restricted to game characters then I'd say anyone from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann would count.

Oh, and can't forget this guy:

Everybody who has made a character that has taken "big guns" as a main skill in Fallout 3.

I had that syndrome in Unreal 2 on a level where the enemies are spiders. Since spiders terrify me I always used excessive force.

Also nothing paints a room red like the good old Doom BFG. Big green energy ball of death that can slaughter everything around it (including myself on more then one occasion).

Agreed. They have weapons like 3 times their size, and it's considered small.

Fallout 3's Fawkes is crazy with that Gatling Lazer though....

Vigoro in Skies of Arcadia.

Ratchet from Ratchet & Clank. Seriously, half of his guns are almost as big as he is. His new BFG from A Crack in Time is probably half again as long as he is tall. Not that I'm complaining.

The redeemer on UT, using a guided nuclear rocket to kill only one person.

The ultimate "Fuck you."

The MIRV from Fallout 3. Every BFG should have at least a 10% chance of killing the user.

Portable Airstrike from Mercenaries. Best weapon I've seen in any game. 500-foot explosion radius, held 10000 rounds, semi-auto, range of about a mile, and insane lock-on. You could level an entire country in a day.

I tend not to use BFG's, they just feel cheap. Always liked the Doom plasma rifle better anyway, and I'd rather plunk away at a Behemoth than just nuke it. Seems lazy.

I wonder why it took so long for someone to say Ratchet?

I have to agree, the RYNOCIRATOR was overkill by definition. If you look up "overkill" in the dictionary, you get a picture of this monster.

I'm not sure if it counts, but I almost always use a shotgun in all the shooters I play.
I like the sound it makes.
