BFG syndrome is the compulsive need to use gigantic weapons unnecessary size to crush, blow up, smash, kill, maim, and other words that describe a horrible and merciless death.

What game characters do you know (or if you yourself) suffer from this syndrome, and what your favorite BFG is?

I myself want to point out that swords and other things like that count.

I actually suffer from the reverse of this in most games. My first time through Fallout 3, for example, I used a common kitchen knife for the majority of the game, upgrading at a later date (Lv 18 or so) to the Shishkebab. I'll use the small, quiet weapons as efficiently as I can out of a compulsive need to conserve ammo for some titanic final fight that never seems to really happen anymore in today's games.....

Does my nuclear powered dagger in morrowind/oblivion count?

(The Morriowind one actually has does OVER 9000 points of fire damage, in a 100 mile radius. It would crash my old computer if used outdoors.)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the scarab gun from Halo 2. You cant even see when firing that gun it takes up the whole screen.

The MIRV from Fallout 3. Every BFG should have at least a 10% chance of killing the user.
I'm pretty sure the MIRV won this thread before it even started: One mini-nuke can kill everything in a 20-foot radius, possibly short the truck-sized Behemoths. The MIRV? It fires NINE of them at once.

Man, the most fun I had in that game was firing off the MIRV in the Capitol Rotunda.

The Lone Wanderer. Even my sneaky snake stealthy character shoots nukes. But, when you're facing a big mutant, you need a big gun.

And, while not technically guns, there is no overkill like the summons from Final Fantasy games. Yeah, all of the summons, with their minute-long intros and giant rain of fiery death on unsuspecting wild animals totally have BFG syndrome.
