Neglecting the single player campaign is horrible. I don't have Xbox live, so if a game has a short single player campaign it better have a metric fuckton of replay value.

I hate it in games (namely platformers) when after getting an ability that let you, say cross a gap that your jump would not allow you to the, game decides once you have used that ability for a bit that there are new gaps that require a new ability for no apparent reason, :(

Having as many Steam games as I do.

Granted, I'm aware of the myriad of cracks and workarounds available, but I shouldn't have to commit a felony in order to play my single-player games without an internet connection. Anybody who mentions Steam's 100% broken offline mode will get their eyeballs scooped out with a tablespoon.

The train crash. There's this big build-up since the very first TEASER for the game came out, and how does it happen? Drake just shoots some convenient barrels of fuel in a cut-scene. Really, Naughty Dog? You can't even let us PLAY your incredibly generic, cliched, cop-out? I thought there would be another thrilling, fast paced action sequence ending in disaster, but instead we get this crap? Unforgivable, Naughty Dog. Simply unforgivable, especially in such an otherwise great game.

3. The spawning in Black Ops, made up for slightly by the time when my friend and I spawned right behind a group of four enemy team members and mowed them the fuck down. Anyway, let's expand this to encompass all unpolished games in general.

4. All Spyro games after the third one. That was a piece of my childhood right there.

5. When there's a really difficult challenge that gets introduced by a quick cutscene, and the game autosaves right before the cutscene, so that you have to re-watch it every goddamn time you die.

6. The incredible amount of trolling Valve gets up to.

7. The final boss/ending of Bioshock. Way to go out on a low note, guys.

8. Seriously, though. Dual-wielding shotguns.
Valve trolling? this sounds interesting, any examples?

Shitty, lazy endings that haven't had any time put into them.

Many games are only a step away from the days of "Conglaturation You have completed a Great Game. And prooved the justice of our culture. Now go and rest our heroes."

My biggest 'pet peeve', in gaming, would be using the right analog stick for something other than camera control in third person shooters. I played Too Human and I agree with Yahtzee on this one. Using the right analog stick for melee attacks (or combat in general) is poor game design, because it works perfectly (in the broadest sense of the word) fine controlling the camera.

my pet peeve is difficulty sliders not making things harder, just take longer. also when the computer controlled opponent cheats.

exaMples:
in an FPS this equates to you having less ammo and enemies having more health but still running herp derp into your line of fire.
in strategy games (im looking at you civilisation) this equates to other countries getting resources for free.

Pyramid Head.

Stop putting him in the sequels, he should only have been in one of them and then vanished. If he shows up in every game then the entire series just gets stupid; different people experience different things, unless it's James in a sequel, don't include Pyramid Head.

And please don't put James in a sequel, I liked him, but no... just, no.

In Beat 'em Ups: Not making the Player Character on the highest sprite layer at all times. Castle Crashers is guilty of this. Good game otherwise though.

Four words: Game For Windows Live.

This is an especially big pain in the neck when it's included in a game sold on Steam. Hello! Steam does everything GFWL does, does it better than GFWL, and it doesn't get in the way.

Patch your Steam releases to remove the GFWL crap and the third-party DRM. If you're selling on Steam, you don't need either.
Games For Windows never bothered me.

The whole Banjo-kazooie nuts and bolts sequal I agree on I hate when they take a game and change so much of it it feels nothing like a past game its why I cant stand playing Resident Evil 4 or 5.

The 2008 version of Prince of Persia is anouther example I truly hate that game but I loved the orginal Sands of Time games.

Thats the greatest sin of gaming I feel

On anouther note STOP TAKING CLANK AWAY IN RACHET & CLANK LET US HAVE HIM FROM START TO FINISH

Mortal sins by game publishers:

-Fleecing customers of more money through needless DLC. Though some add-ons are enjoyable and worth the admission fee (Borderlands DLC anyone?), too many of them add practically nothing to the experience besides a few cosmetic changes, half-baked epilogues, or bugfixes that should have been addressed before launch.

-Implementing DRM for PC titles. It does nothing to stop the piracy of the game, and it just pisses off those who legitimately bought the game. If you want to reformat your hard drive or have to get a new computer, you shouldn't have to be punished for it by exceeding some arbitrary install limit. Even worse are the ones where you have to be online 24/7 to play the game (even for single player!).

Mortal sins by game developers:

-Unskippable cutscenes. My time is precious, and on some days I can't play games for very long. If I beat the game the first time, I don't want to watch the five minute intro the second time around!

-Frustrating escort missions. Hate to break it to you guys, but it's not fun babysitting a defenseless target for fifteen minutes against hordes of enemies. It's even more of an exercise in hair-pulling if there's no checkpoints. At least give my escort some means of fighting back so I don't have to do all the work myself.

-Neglecting single player mode. I may have finally jumped on the Xbox Live bandwagon, but that doesn't mean I suddenly only want to play multiplayer. I always play single player mode first for any game regardless of the platform. Also, we all know there's no shortage of douchebags online, and sometimes I just don't want to deal with those idiots. Finally, the multiplayer population WILL disappear over time. When everyone else is gone, there better be something left for the few die-hards.

Does it really matter?
Multiplayer

Seriously, just because consoles now have online functionality it doesn't mean that every game released has to have a multiplayer function. It doesn't work for some and won't work for others.

Even worse in some cases, the main game can suffer due to an overhyped multiplayer mode.

Cutscenes

Valve did it best with Half-life 1 and 2. I can't remember a point where i didn't loose COMPLETE control of Gordon. You could either look directly at the person speaking to you or completely ignore them the like the bad-ass he is.

Realism

Yeah it was a nice touch a couple of years ago, but it seens that the 16 bit era had more colours on the one screen at any one point, than most games these days have in them from start to finish.

I agree. I accidently booted up Modern Wardare 2 instead of Team Fortress 2 a few days ago.

People online? Less than 30000.

30,000? Psh, try less than 500 when the Jedi Outcast community was dying a slow, painful death. Now you're lucky if any servers are populated at all, though they'll almost always be password protected.

It's a shame that I'll never be able to relive the online glory days of that game again. Good thing there's still the single player with plenty of custom levels to tide me over.

1)Media attention. EA is real bad for it, I mean just look at Dante's Inferno. If publishers would give all games that they are releasing the same amount of money for adds then the masses wouldn?t be screwed in to buying so many horrid games.

2)I would love if they would stop trying to copy World Of Warcraft and God Of War. No one will ever be able to contend with WoW for the simple reason that most MMORPGs coming out are WoW but with a different title. And same goes for all the games that came out this year alone that have ripped off God Of War. Yes borrow some concepts from games that were hits. But don?t flat out take it and just make new textures for every thing. Case and point Dante's Inferno, every thing about that game screams God Of War.

3)The total lack of any real survivor horror games. Granted this is due to advances in tech. Now it could just be me, but I miss the days of playing a horror game where all you really could do was survive. You weren?t some over powered thing that could take on hordes and hordes (Looking right at you Suffering). Put the player in an environment that leaves them feeling scared, helpless, and feeling more then a little paranoid and you'll have something that I think allot of people wont want to put down for the same reason people go to see horror movies. People like being scared, they like mystery. Although now a days any game like what I?m thinking would probably just end up shitting all over its self.

Quicktime Events.
THEY MUST DIEEEEE

Also, 'hard mode' that does nothing but add more enemies or raise their HP bar... sometimes this is obviously acceptable but not in all games >.<
