Ocarina of Time.
Explain...? What is it a rip-off of?

Saint's Row is a bad rip-off, I haven't played the second one but the first was GOD-AWFUL. I hated it. They seemed to forget to put in what made GTA good.
A Link to the Past. Ocarina of Time is so much of a copy that it shouldn't even be an eligible answer when discussing what the best Zelda game is.

Well they rip off the gun design models, so why not rip off the sound effects as well?

I look at the Conduit, and I don't see a game. I see a bunch of other games rolled together and then downgraded to function properly on the Wii. Probably just an average game, but if you own any game like Halo then buying it is pointless.
This is straight from a reply of one of my more educated comments that the Conduit is a massive rip off. I only said that they use the same noise from the Hunter cannon (which has no equal in the video game world, unlike the "pistols" he's refers to)

<spoiler=Not a Grammar Nazi> dude, dont even complain about this game if u dont even have a wii. just because a game has similar sound effects doesn't mean its a rip off. oh gee, the pistol sounds like a pistol from this one game i heard of which means this game is bad. thats what u sounded like and no1 likes the way u complain. if u dont like the game, why even watch the fucking vid, post shit and act like ur doing something good. Yes halo and mass effect r good games, but really, a lot of games use simialr sound effecs.

Edit: I found another one.

screw you man why the fuck are you watching this if you think it rips off another game why don't you go play one of your little pony games you dumb ass. I bet you're a good catcher. Of donuts. in your mouth BYATCH
^ And this is coming from a kid that made a stop-motion lego video about an American Civil War battle...

I'd say either Saints row or any Halo-killer on PS3, like Haze or Killzone. All of which are peices of shit chock full of American foreign policy
Why you gotta be hating on Killzone?
Because Killzone is shit. Don't bother arguing otherwise, you have zero chance of changing my opinion, I don't have a PS3 so there's no point me buying it, the concept is unoriginal, the characters bland and stereotypical, it's target audience is suburban midland American 14-year-old boys with parentally-diagnosed ADHD (ie - being a shithead disorder) who listen to Korn, Disturbed and Slipknot and claim to be "metalheads".
It.
Is.
Shit.
There's no discussion, no debate, no back-and-forth flame war that will arise out of this.
It's shit.
So are Haze and Saints row, for the same reasons.
Gotta admit, I laughed at the bold.

Anyway, probably every terrible sandbox game that followed GTA:3, but I'm gonna have to specifically go with "True Crime: Streets of LA" here.

Runic Games' Torchlight is the biggest direct clone of Diablo 3 visually, despite the fact there is a substantial difference in budget and quality and a few other things.

Quite a few have been alraedy been mentioned in Zero Punctuation...

Original ------------> Clone

God of War ----------> X blades
Oblivion ------------> Two Worlds
Halo ----------------> Nearly all recent FPS's (Haze in particular)

Not to mention the amount of developers opting for the game setting of an apocalyptic wasteland, and the recent clash between Infamous and Prototype (although i'd say there just similar rather then direct clone sof each other).

Well you can't really blame these games for ripping off. Are you going to play Halo for the rest of your life and say "Halo rip-off" to every new sci-fi FPS? I can forgive a lot of games for copying but the world needs "new" games. But I can't forgive Blizzard for leeching off gamesworkshop. Anyway its just that no-one can make a game copying something else just like Sci-Fi

Starship Troopers then Alien then Warhammer 40,000 then Star Craft.

Its not that developers are ripping off Halo their just trying to be like it. Halo struck gold with its FPS mecahnics and now many developers seem to use it as a basis when developing a new Sci-fi FPS.

It would just be nice to see more innovative/experimental games rather then developers falling back on tried and tested formulas that they know will be chaep to produce and bring in money.

Bioshock is an acception, it's made by the same developers...and it was announced early on as System Shocks spiritual sequel.

I'd say some of the biggest rip offs I've seen has been:

-Quake ripping off Doom..(same developers but funny how they started with a new idea and ended up with another Doom..lol)

-Warcraft ripping off Warhammer

-Starcraft ripping off Warhammer 40K

-Call of Duty ripping off Medal of Honor...(until CoD4 which was awesome I literally didn't know they were two different games..lol)

-Silent Hill ripping off Resident Evil ripping off Alone in the Dark...(granted Silent Hill is the biggest rip off, Resident Evil is just a dumb down jarheaded version of SH, and AitD has clearly lost it's edge...lol)

Man, I don't even like the PS3 and I want to debate just because of how obnoxious that came off. No need to rage at the world just because someone asked you why you hate something, just be nice.

Anyway, from a sane and logical person, I'd like to point out that Killzone 2 does TREMENDOUSLY rip off Call of Duty 4. I'm sure it uses the same engine, the controls are the same, you can play it in the same way...It still makes a decent game but damn, they're similar.

A more obscure one, I think Prototype rips off Spiderman 2 (the game) a fair bit. It just feels real similar to play and stuff. Although maybe it was unavoidable given the nature of the game, I dunno.

And this has probably been mentioned somewhere, but Project HAVE Online and Team Fortress 2. That just made me laugh.

Oh, and I just remembered this. Splinter Cell ripping off Metal Gear Solid. No-one can tell me Splinter Cell didn't kick off riding MGS's wave of Stealth-action success xD.

One of my co-workers told me that Bioshock was made by the same people who did System Shock 2, so I guess they can rip off themselves all they want.
System Shock 2 was made by Irrational Games. After they merged with publisher 2K games, they became 2K Boston, and made Bioshock. So yes, they did have the right to rip off the game entirely, but I don't believe in any of that "spiritual successor" crap. If you're not calling the game System Shock 3, then it implies that they were trying something new.

Surprise, surprise; they weren't.
lol...SS2 fanbois make me laugh...SS2 was a good game but it was also boring, tedious, and a financial blunder, hence why there hasn't been a SS3 yet and there's already a BS2 game coming out next year...don't hate just because Ken Levine made a better version of SS.

On another note, speaking of fps games for ppl with a brain...I hope Deus Ex 3 turns out as good as the first and no where near how bad part two was....=/

Ok, I personally think that Killzone was highly overrated, but having your first reasoning be "I Don't own the system it's on" is pretty lame. I would also suggest that you accept there are many different styles in gaming. Not everything will appeal to you, and not everything you like will appeal to others. To complain that something's style or theme sucks is just showing that your a pompous ass about your opinions. I didn't like Killzone's constant "Sit here and defend yourself for 10 minutes while we open a door/wait for back-up/plant a bomb" type of missions but I could at least accept that it had good graphics, solid gameplay, and a few damn epic level moments. Of course the multiplayer was COD4 lite. In the case of Saint's Row, the first was a blatant rip off of GTA, but you have to admit the second one changed it up to set itself a part, and did a pretty damn good job of getting the fun factor down. Now before you start to peg me as that stereotypical American gamer, my favorite games are Gitaroo Man(Parappa sucks in comparison), Ninja Gaiden Black(Sigma was a terrible remake and II was a broken sequel), Grim Grimoire(Odin Sphere overshadowed this MUCH better game), Phantom Brave(Disgaea is awesome, but this one had more sympathetic characters and was their first push at gridless strategy), and Phantom Dust(Let's see Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh! pull this off). Punch Out! and Red Faction are some new favorites too. Blaz Blue is also awesome, but Arcana Heart is the best 2d fighter I've played. Is that too varied for you?

Oh, and just cause a games a shooter doesn't mean it's a Halo clone. This includes Killzone. The only games I've really seen mimic halo way too much was Republic Commando and Darkwatch, both of which were still pretty fun. Now Gears of War, there's a game that's getting way too many low quality clones. Dark Sector, anyone?

Just cause something uses an idea doesn't make it a clone. Regenerating health was a great idea and was decidedly put into play everywhere to replace health pack hunting, and I'm sure everyone is grateful for it. Now that we're in the next generation, it's all about the cover system(not started by Gears, but defintely perfected close enough to show it's usefulness to everyone)

I see what you did there. Double meanings and such.

But what did you expect? Capcom is Capcom. They are incapable of innovation without first creating and then firing a team of creative geniuses.

It might be just me but I think that every MMORPG out there (for the PC) is trying to be World of Warcraft in one sense or another. But as for a game that copied another?

Can't think of any at this time.
