It has to be Just Cause 2. I traded that game in because the map was too big.
Wait what?
I dont understand?
I thought thats a good thing.
It was too big. It takes something like 40 minutes to FLY from one side to the other so by the time I got to start a mission, I was already sick of playing the game.

EDIT: Google Earth Flight Sim has a pretty big map considering you can go to the moon and mars too...
It took 6 minutes to fly diagonally across the map in the fastest plane in the game, which you unlock after like an hour.

I'm just sayin'.
Yes but that plane costs and you need a place to take off from, which is quite hard to find in a game that is mainly woodland and buildings. Also, 6 minutes? I'm pretty sure it took me longer than that...
I apologise, I didn't realise you wanted someone to just play the game for you.

*raisedeyebrowface*
Really, is there any need to be like that? For instance, I can see a 'yo mamma' joke in what you wrote but I ain't gonna go there, I'm above that. So, I didn't like the game, no need to be so confrontational about it...
You can see a mum joke in that? I must be rusty...

And I'm not being confrontational, I just don't know what you expect. There are roads all over the place for a start.

Every time I tried taking off from a road I hit a car or something, went flying off to the side and wrecked my plane. Also, it was a pretty shit mum joke tbh, but it is still there...

Arcanum had quite a big world, though you would almost never travel normally. It took 30 hours just to walk from one corner to the other. And i seriously doubt ANYONE would do that.
But still, a great and fun game.

You can just use extraction.
I literally did not know you could do that...

False. The flying in space sections don't really count.

Correct answer: Minecraft.
Each generated world is 8 times the size of Earth.
Booyah.
Woah, What?! Where did you hear that?!
It's mentioned on the website.

Not that it matters, really. How often would you actually use even a thousandth of that space?
A thousandth? really. Eight times the size of earth. Although I am having issues believing that. Is way beyond freaking huge. I Kinda doubt you even use 1/100,000th of it.
Eh...I was lazy...I didn't want to do math...I picked a tiny fraction. The point remains the same, and as you say, there is no way to use any significant potion of the map...my Minecraft world is currently traversible in like...15 minutes. That's like, a bazillionth of the earths size.

Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, with 487,000 square kilometers of map, or 188,031.750 square miles. Most of it is randomly generated, though.

I was gonna say Just Cause 2 but after reading some other thing here I don't think that JC2 is that big. =(

Maybe Duke Nukem Forever xD

Yeah, probably Daggerfall, but I never played it.
Morrowind was pretty immense too. Same for San Andreas.
But the obivous answer is Spore. Come on, it's a fucking galaxy! Though that doesn't make the game any less of a terrible waste of potential in my eye.

Minecraft I guess

"In Infdev and Alpha, maps are infinitely big. They are made up of chunks; as the player explores the map distant chunks are generated automatically, leading to theoretically infinite maps. In practice, technical reasons force the maximum map size to 8 times the surface area of the Earth [1]. Whilst the Horizontal planes of the Maps are vast in size, the vertical plane remains at a fixed 128 Block height [2]. Although player deviation outside the bounds of the generated map is possible, such as via the void in gaps of the bedrock, it will result in recurring damage until the players death."

From the game's Wiki page (see link below)
http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Map

Edit: Spore is a close contester though, but the prob is that you can get from one side of the galaxy to the other in a few hours. walking across a minecraft world can take days (real ones)

Edit: Actually, I just thought of something; They're all the same; about the size of a harddrive.
XD. Also not all games have maps. most only have WORLDS. Spore and Minecraft don't have maps unless you draw them yourself...

What about that section in Assassins Creed II (probably I too) where your about to switch between reality and dream where you can just walk around forever... I think that is infinite therefor making it the largest map

Booyah.
But the question was which had the biggest map. Not world.
And Mass Effect definetly has a map. A galaxy map in fact

Elder Scrolls 2 Daggerfall is another contender.
wikipedia said:
Bethesda claims that the scale of the game is equal to twice the size of Great Britain:[1] around 487,000 square kilometers. The game world features over 15,000 towns, cities, villages, and dungeons for the player's character to explore. According to Todd Howard, an Elder Scrolls programmer, the game's sequel, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, is 0.01% the size of Daggerfall, but it should be noted most of Daggerfall's terrain was randomly generated.
QFT.

Are we really going to split hairs?
Whether you call it the biggest map, or biggest world, it's the same thing.
We're talking about game-space. Where you can go.

Mass Effect's map, when you actually consider how much of that space is playable, is really not that large.
Minecraft's, however, is. It's just massive.
