Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I don't get the fascination of bringing already seminal animation hits into live action films. Especially anime. It is it's own art-form. Why would anyone re-make Akira or make Bambi live action?murphy7801 said:Oh why do you even need to remake this as live action its not going to bring anything to the franchise.
And don't forget the Remake of Akira that Leonardo DiCapro is making (even though i have high hopes for this one for some reason...).BrotherhoodOfSteel said:Aww.....
Noooo.......
DO NOT WANT.....
First Dragonball, then the Cowboy Bebop rumours, and now this....
This.... Will Not End Well....
Live action might not add anything good to the franchise, but live action movies appeal to a far broader audience than animated movies. If they were to make a new GitS animated movie, it would mostly be the fans that would watch it, and not many others. A live action movie, if done right, has the potential of drawing in the regular movie crowd as well as the long-time fans.ravens_nest said:Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Making Death Note live action did absolutley nothing to add to it's franchise.
The up-coming Cowboy Bebop live action film is just not going to work either I promise you.
The negativity here exists because live action adaptation of anime doesn't work, period, you end up making a steaming pile. Even the Japanese can't make it work, and we Americans somehow do it worse.Uncompetative said:I don't understand all the negativity here, I'm looking forward to it.
I sometimes suspect this is only done for the financial gain. Something like Lord of the Rings being made live action after the animated series makes sense because it is not based off that version. It comes from a book.hURR dURR dERP said:Live action might not add anything good to the franchise, but live action movies appeal to a far broader audience than animated movies. Er, well if I understand what you're saying correctly you don't really disagree with what I meant (or was trying to mean at least). The jist of what I was trying to say is that they will change it in some way to try and attract more people, but it will backfire and end up attracting less people.scarab7 said:I'd agree with this except there could be a total opposite on audience appeal. As in make it rated R and the trailers are all actions and crappy one-liners. And giant robots that were made up by the company, can't forget about giant robots. The hype will be so bad because everyone will think the opening seen is with the Motoko Kusanagi jumping off a skyscraper naked. Then people either won't get it or the story will having nothing to do with anything from the series.Eric the Orange said:Every time, without exception, A non-Japanese company (and about half the time when it is a Japanese company) tries to make a live anime adaptation, they fail miserably. This will be no exception.
My theory being anything made for release in theaters is always changed to "appeal to a wider audience". The same reason horror movies get toned down now a days to get a PG-13 rating. In this case the movie will be changed so that they hope non-anime fans will go see it. Which is some silly logic because people who aren't fans of the anime, most likely wont want to see a movie based on said anime. And fans of the anime will be repulsed by the changes made and not want to see it either. So it would be better just to get the animation studio to make an animated move directed at the fans.
But the again maybe anime just isn't compatible with live action, no matter who makes it.
There is no possible way this can fail.nilcypher said:The seminal manga/anime Ghost in the Shell is getting a live-action, English-language remake courtesy of Bionic Woman writer Laeta Kalogridis.
