On one hand, it's great that they're taking the time to make this game great, rather than trying to rush it out for the holiday season.

On the other hand, if this game isn't something equal to, say, Skyrim, there's gonna be a lot of disappointment. Infinite's definitely putting on a lot of hype here.

It better make my eyes bleed gold and make me feel like I'm floating in a sea of maple syrup while dolphins lick my perfect feet!

Man, I'm really looking forward to this game and now it's almost a year away! AGAIN! Ugh.

There better be a Collector's Edition too! >_____________>

Exactly my thoughts! I've actually haven't pre-ordered it just in case they release a special ed. I know I can always upgrade, but still.

Yea, im keeping tabs this time.
With MvC3 i made the mistake of not keeping up with the editions and by the time i went to get it pre-ordered they were at their limit for the Collectors.
Not this time.
Iv also got Darksiders 2 Limited Edition Pre-Ordered but i heard that's been delayed too, sigh...
Oh well, it will give me time to finish my backlog.

What I do is I just ask for a copy of the Special Edition/Upcoming games/Premiums (Free stuff) list. That way, I know what it comes with specifically and I know when it comes out.
Your local GameStop won't mind if you ask for one cause it means you're gonna buy something someday. It's just good business.

Hmm, I don't mind this - I'm all up for games getting delayed in the interest of making them even more bug-proof, immersive and awesome.

At the very least, it's £40 I can save this year.

Yea, i end up getting a list of upcoming games all the time when i go in.
Usually if a game makes me interested enough to pre-order i go ahead and spring for the Special/Limited/Collectors edition..

"[W]e've come to realize that some specific tweaks and improvements will make Infinite into something even more extraordinary."

I wonder what the translation of this statement into honest speech would read like.

Is it just me or have a LOT of games suddenly moved from 2012 to 2013? Here are some other games that in the last few months moved release date from 2012 to 2013:

-Metro: Last Light
-XCOM
-Star Trek
-Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm
-Prey 2 (implicitly from the 6-months of no-development)

I am glad some developers still put quality above getting a quick release to get money sooner. It's just a shame that it happens to be the only game being released this year that I was actually looking forward to.
Pretty much this. It's a shame about the delay but I'd rather have them give the game a proper polish as to rushing it out with any major glitches in it. Oh well, the backlog of games and books I have should keep me busy till then.
There's a point where "quality control" delays become too much or too long though.

When TOR had this much of a delay, it was to remake big chunks of the game, and that's probably what's going on here, it doesn't always mean polish.

I was really REALLY looking forward to this so I guess I'm a little disappointed by the delay. On the other hand, if the purpose is to refine it and make the game even more awesome...I reckon I can deal with it.

If you dont want day one DLC or patches because a game feels unfinished this is what you asked for. So no complaining from you people! Even if you havnt posted yet. You know who you are :p

Better this that an incomplete game. Art takes time. Cant hurry something good.
Day one DLC has nothing to do with a games initial development unless it's disc locked or the company wants to get greedy. Most of the time day one DLC is made during the downtime the development team has while they wait for the okay to finalize their game, and once the game is finalized they don't have the time to insert it on the disc. Since they have to pay the team during downtime they mind as well get something out of it.

OT: I'm not the least bit surprised.

Yes, that is a reason to have a day-one patch, but not PREMIUM DLC!

Continue working on that extra finishing touch, that final bug-fix, but have that as a patch. This is what Valve does, they don't charge another $10-15 for the HDR-rendering that they added for Half Life 2, they just rolled it out in a free update.

If it was SUPPOSED to be in the original full price game but "didn't quite make it" that is NO EXCUSE to charge for it. I mean if you are LATE with your work that doesn't mean I should have to pay extra!!! Free patches that add great content to the game are GREAT marketing, it gets column space on websites like this and boosts sales, keeps it relevant.

Now clearly there are cases were DLC is a true expansion pack, it was never considered for the launch release and is totally tangential to the game they were making, it was made as a result of left over assets and bridging to the next instalment, it only makes sense as a low price expansion pack. Like a whole new adventure clearly taking place AFTER the game has concluded or is of a completely different side story. So it's a case that it wasn't what they really wanted to include in the game because it comes either after the narrative conclusion or happens outside the main narrative; seen respectively with Half Life Opposing Force and Half Life Episodes.

But not for a mid story element, like that premium DLC for DX:HR, that was clearly in-line with the narrative and was supposed to have been part of the game, if you paid for DX:HR you should have gotten that portion with a free-update. And it would have been good press, it would have reminded people how great the game is.

SO whenever there is DLC (which is a very broad term) I ask: is this a Patch or is this an Expansion pack. I am NOT paying for the former, I may pay something for the latter.

Maps are the exception to this. Maps in multiplayer games can clearly be churned out at a steady rate after the fact but it's a bad idea to charge for them as they horribly fracture your online community; You can't have a regular map rotation without losing 50% of the players each time as they didn't happen to buy that particular map. You need to get people IN the game and playing. Also you should open the game up to custom maps that must be free and you can't really be competitive with those. Once you got them in the game, then you can start selling them stuff.
