BioWare Lifts the Lid on Dragon Age 2 DRM

I really have issues understanding this. They spend ridiculous amounts of time and money on DRM that only serves to piss people off. They need to figure out another way. I give it a week before a cracked version comes out. A cracked version that doesn't make the user deal with DRM. So.... yeah... the standard argument. DRM appears to only be there to piss off the paying customer. The downloaders/pirates get the better version.

Anything that can be done with software.... can also be undone with software.

It only affects the actual buyers, so Im okay with this. :)
This.

I'm sure as hell not spending my money on it--though before this DRM announcement I was planning to.

My only question, if I fire this game up in five years to play it again...

Will it let me play it like I enjoy my old classics...

Or this another lame way to insure games have a limited life span, cause unless gaming companies destroy them we will all play Pacman instead of buy their newest game?

I propose a massive boycott on this DRM crap. Bioware, I love you but this is unacceptable.

How so?
The pirated version will just disable that.
Or simply use the steam version.
This is just par for the course.

While I don't know how I feel about the second option for the retail version I'm very happy that they are releasing a version on steam that only uses the steam system as it's DRM (yes steam is DRM, it's non-intrusive and has a lot going for it, but it's still DRM), nothing annoys me more then seeing games like Spore with DRM on Steam

Nope, because putting up measures to protect their property means they are the evulz. I love it how people blame the companies for putting up the DRM and very little blame goes to the pirates, who, if it hadn't been for them we wouldn't be in this predicament.

I guess its easier to blame the big "evilz" company with a face rather than blaming the thieves. Because you know, they are the virtual Robin Hoods that steal from the rich and give to the poor meaning that game companies have to increase security which harms the paying customer.

Christ these pirates are ruining the gaming, music and movie industries and people are cheering them on as they are doing it.
pretty much this and yeah i don't mind sounds like the same system they had on Dragon age origens so it's all goodz

Like they always do. By cracking it within less than a week and spend the rest of their time wanking and pondering why companies waste tons of money on an ineffective and easily avoided system that only punishes the real users when the greatest challenge given to them in game cracking terms was done some 10-20 years ago without all the hassle to the actual buyers.

But hey. Keep on truckin'. One day they'll realise the best way to combat piracy is to make an MMO. Oh wait ;)

Okay, I think I should say something. A lot of people are calling out Bioware and EA for its DRM. they claim that their "Lenient" DRM is just a ruse, and makes up supposed freedoms and "sticks it" too it's paying customers while Pirates are gonna pirate it anyway.

Pirates are gonna pirate it ANYWAY, weather any DRM was put on it or not. that's just how gaming works. people are assholes and want things for free. so by putting this fairly lenient, somewhat fair DRM, they are trying too find a balance. the company can at least feel its doing SOMETHING too stop the pirates (it may in actuality be nothing, but at least they can feel like they are doing something) and the buyer's aren't forced too jump through so many rings too play a cool RPG.

Everyone Wins, especially pirates. the smug bastards.

Well, much better DRM compared to that of some French prick's company... But in the end, pirates are just always at the winning end with no DRM at their hands. The only privilege that legal users can have is the easy updates.
I liked the bit from the EC vid on piracy pointing out that pirates get a BETTER product than consumers do.

I don't endorse piracy, but it is really true.

I find it humerous that he hasn't posted a response with any counter-links...

To be honest, it may be a link war. It took me about... 1 Hour(?) to find all the links. The second hour was because of other stuff I had to do.

In regards to piracy hurting the economy and all the gobbledegook that the anti-pirates have, it's kinda hard to say it's actually hurting anyone without it turning into a morality argument. Give him some time. If we're battling on economic terms there's plenty to debate. :)

ooooh good job EA. so you create all these special deals for customers if they preorder before a certain time.

what exactly was that certain time?

it was before the announcement of the DRM. so now we all have our preorder bonuses that we'll lose if we cancel because of the DRM.

im sorry, but any game that "checks your connection during gameplay" is just the WRONG way to do it.

this game gets worse and worse and worse every week. the way DLC is set up is way worse then DA1, the "exclusive deals" are now worse and more obnoxious, and now... GOODIE... WE GET DRM SIMILAR TO ASSASSINS CREED 2!! YOU KNOW, THE DRM THAT ALMOST OBLITERATED THE COMPANY SO BAD THEY ALMOST WENT BANKRUPT AND WERE FORCED TO REVERT THE CHANGE.

these companies piss me off. this was the straw that broke the camels back, going right now to cancel my preorder.

Totally, I'm really thinking about buying the game and then downloading a crack, especially since it is single player

And a version with the DRM completely removed will appear on torrent sites within weeks, thus rendering the DRM completely pointless and providing pirates with an unarguably superior product. I love how we've gotten to the point where a limit of 5 installs and periodic online verification is considered "generous". And by love, I mean hate. Oh, how "generous" of Bioware to allow me to play the game I legally purchased! That's so considerate of them, you know?
Weeks? I think you mean the day it's released.

I'm getting the xbox version. I refuse to deal with any DRM of any sort. Steam is the only one that isn't as bad, and that is still to much. It's pointless in the long run.

This captcha shit is really getting annoying, I had to refresh for like 2 minutes before I could actually find one that was legible. We don't have a lot of spam for crying out loud.
