Understatement of the year, right there. Something as good as Mass Effect from both a story and gameplay perspective is going to stick around for a good, long while.

This pretty much sums up why I feel the "Shepard loses" ending would be the best one. Because for two whole games we've been seeing this man as what is pretty much space Jesus in the eyes of all the in game characters (Much like how Gordon Freeman is beard Jesus in the Half-Life series),to see him fall and have the universe suffer would create some form of closure, and end with something better than "Shepard punched alien Hitler in the face".
Sometimes,a sad ending is the best ending.
While I do think that would be best for the sake of the story, I hope it is not the case as I enjoyed how in ME2 even once you defeated the collectors you could still do side missions, DLC etc

Personally, I'm hoping for a heroic sacrifice ending (Not the bad, everyone loses ending) for Mass Effect 3, but that's just me.

I'm glad that they're going to move onto different things with Mass Effect. They got a pretty good universe and lore behind the series, so it'd only make sense.

You can have a sad ending where Shepard still wins. I mean, not to sound like a pessimist but the way the BioWare guys answered one of their questions at the GamesCom Q&A session it sounds like Shepard is going to sacrifice him/herself at the end to save the galaxy even in the best possible ending.

lol at all the people whining about "bring back the RPG" after ME3. It never left, but I'm sorry to hear that you idea of an RPG is spending more time in the pause screen melting down piles of worthless crap you picked up into omni-gel. How far along are you guys in that other great RPG, Microsoft Excel? They have an online sequel now called Google Documents Spreadsheet, don't forget to try it out!

spin-off where we play as Garrus anyone?
I admit I squealed a little on the inside, then a second later I realized it would most likely end up being terrible.
Yeah, I don't really want to play "Mass Effect: Calibrations" myself. Sounds awfully boring.

three words for you Bioware.

First Contact War.

that is all.

In my opinion I'd much rather have seen a Mass Effect MMO

also, Bioware going for space combat game a la Homeworld?
First Contact War wasn't as big as you might think. According to the wiki it was pretty small, and only lasted three months. The turians don't even remember it as a war. They refer to it as "Relay 314 Incident".

Also I really hate it when they refer to ME3 as an entry point for new fans. The end of a trilogy is not a good entry point dammit!
oh im aware of that, but i think it'd be cool to play it from the turian side.

seeing Humans in a technologically weakened state but still doing well waging war. having the political dealings with the council. The first tentative steps of humanity in galactic civilization viewed from a hostile outsider(maybe hostile). Maybe even have Andersons Spectre mission on it as well.

it would seem appropriate for a Bioware origin story, and what Mass effect could do with in my opinion is to get away from the Human-centric story and help expand the universe by exploring other races in major flashpoints in the lore.

I just know that this means there will at least be an ending where Shepard dies. I really want my Shepard to go out in flames, in a grand, tearjerking finale. I want to cry my eyes out when I finish this game.
If this happens, I want to be able to see the funeral. With epic music, shots being fired, and at least two tear-jerking speeches. I want nothing less than absolute bawling for at least two days.

I would totally work for this ending. I even have a Shepard planned to die as she lived.
Gloriously. I'm sniffling just thinking about it.

Everyone keep's talking about an MMO... but you wanna know what I would love to see?

Mass Effect pen and paper rpg. It's sooo fucking doable, I would do it myself if I had a head for creating games.

Read through this. The conflict amounts to very little, with only one battle for planetary control, the rest being a series of small ship to ship skirmishes. Before either side even had fully prepared themselves for a real conflict, the Council intervened.

To put it in a different perspective, it'd be like making a game centred around a minor territorial dispute before the UN intervened and the situation was peacefully resolved. There just isn't much material there to work with.

It'd be better to set something in a new setting as well instead of look into minor backstory events. We've still only gotten to see a fraction of the galaxy, even the Citadel, Omega, or Illium.

NEWS: THIRD ENTRY IN TRILOGY IS FINAL ENTRY IN TRILOGY.

I'm not poking fun at the article, but lamenting the fact that this actually is news. Hooray for BioWare not milking Commander Shepard till his udders are shriveled and bleeding.

Love the ME universe... but sadly... I sense the oncoming of another MMO... and I don't think I can hop on that bandwagon... I still on the fence with TOR...

OT; ...OK, I'm going to sound like an r-tard here, but is Mass Effect really that good? The only Bioware game I played is DA;O so...
No, not really. It's decent, but it's very, very overrated.

OT: I dunno. I'm really sick of Mass Effect at this point, Shepard or no Shepard. The whole universe has tired me out, it doesn't feel like there's much worth exploring, and it doesn't feel like Bioware can do much more to nail home their politically correct liberal agenda than they already have with this series. When pure, roboticized racism is your main bad guy, where do you have left to go?

I hope next one they will widen the spectrum a bit. I don't like that humans are the least interesting race in the game and the only one you can play as. Personally, I really like the drell. Drell assassin? I think yes.

I'd like to enjoy the Mass Effect universe in the future, but then they tried the same thing with Star Wars and what did that get us?

The Prequels.

I'm going to stay cautiously optimistic, but I'm really holding my breath on this.

I just hope they don't kill Shepard off.
Agreed. I'd really hate that, for one it would be lazy and feel like a betrayal after all of our hard work. Add to that the messianic "savior dies" parallel has been milked to death.

As for what I came to say, If the next trilogy stars Garrus Vakarian I think they've got us all on board. Am I right?
