I have yet to play Soldier in either Mass Effect 1 or 2... didn't know it was so popular.

Still, I'm glad that they collect some data from our playing, if it helps mold their DLC and the way that Mass Effect 3 will be constructed and tweaked, it sounds like a brilliant idea. That and Bioware has yet to let me down on anything.

Ugh... Whilst I kind of understand why they do it, I'm not quite sure I like it... Couldn't they at least have asked for permission first?
I wish they'd at least said they were planning on data mining as a guide to future game design - I didn't play connected to the internet and I didn't play a soldier on any of my three play throughs. Neither did my husband, who also didn't play a soldier. If it turns out there is some correlation between playing what by the apparent stats are considered more esoteric classes and not caring about being online, then their data is going to be skewed. I'll be a sad panda if they decide no one cares about biotics or tech :(

So we've gone from 'design by committee' to 'design by statistics.'

Dangerous. But I can see how, if used only in the details and not in the general design of the game, it might improve gameplay efficiency, if nothing else.

The popularity of Miranda's loyalty mission is two-fold:

1) It is one of the first two you receive (the other being Jacob)
2) It is on Ilium, the same planet where you will already be recruiting two more team-members and getting a ton of upgrades anyway, rather than being way out in the galactic sticks.

surprise? they are watching you, recording your habits and watching for emergent gameplay to put into a sequel/expansion/DLC...and if you didn't know that you're a moron.
I honestly don't care if they know whether or not I slept with a blue alien or that I hate Ashley with the strength of a thousand suns, however that's only because there isn't that much that they can mine from the way I play, I wouldn't say the same for other softwares.

Ugh, more people played the soldier?

So boring.

Vanguard is where it's at in ME2.

In ME1 it was all about the Infiltrator - 100% uptime on Marksman and Immunity = loldeadeverything

And oh, Miranda is not nearly as attractive as Garrus.
Perhaps in the next DLC, they might add the shiny black suit of Miranda for Garrus then ^^)

who else chose soldier because everything else sounded F&%KING hard to understand???
Personally, I picked Vanguard because I wanted both the shiny powers without having to give up guns (at the time, I didn't know adepts could still use guns), I'm weak :)

But I see your point about being a tad overwhelming when there are too many choices.

Positive intentions or not ... this is why my computer is not allowed by software means to communicate out unless I've authorized it.

Vanguard was sex in ME1 as well. Biotics + Adrenaline Rush = disable gravity for everyone but you and your team. Also, Warp + Carnage = Saren's delicious, salty tears.

i cringed when i saw that pc players tried to secure mirandas "loyalty" more then 360 players.
She is your first team member and statistically her loyalty mission is the most likely one to get first and therefor the most likely one to be completed the most and an oddity would instead be a later character getting more attention.

It just shows that in terms of pixels and soundbytes, console players feel an inexplicable bond with a brainwashed slave.

Hopefully they learn to make the biotic powers less underpowered in ME3 since the soldier is the most played class. I mean, I tried to play on Hardcore for a while in ME2 with a biotic character and it sucked... big time. I much rather use magic (oops meant "biotics) than guns.
