Mass Effect 2: DARKER AND EDGIER! Gee, where have I heard that before... *sigh*
I say to that what I say about Quick Time Events; just because it has been done poorly doesn't mean it can't be done well.
I agree. And BioWare has shown they can do a really good sequel with a darker tone. Just play Baldur's Gate 2. Some of the humor was toned down, some of the missions darker, but many fans thought the game superior to the original. So give Bioware a shot.

For me, this is actually the one game I'm really looking forward to. I keep trying to check my enthusiasm, but everything I keep seeing and hearing about it has me very excited. I thoroughly loved the first one, even the bits some people hated. Not being a shooter fan, I didn't mind the way combat worked (though I have a feeling FPS fans found it lacking). Once you figure out the combat wheel, you're golden. The only things that bugged me a tiny bit were the lack of variety of terrestrial worlds (you have the ice planet, the lava planet, the lush planet, and the red planet), and the repetitive Mako missions. Don't get me wrong, I thought the Mako was great fun. I just wish there was a bit more variety in the missions utilizing it. The main missions all had a straight path from point A to point B, but developers should have utilized the Mako's off-road capabilities and done an open map like all the worlds. Then you'd be able to actually sneak up on enemy turrets and armatures, maybe break up the monotony of drive-ahead, shoot enemies, let shields recharge, repeat. But honestly, that's my only complaint about the game. And it pales in comparison to it's awesome storyline and characters. As long as the good writing carries over, I'll be happy.

Sweet. Mass Effect rocks but the battle system is a little... well just not as polished as the rest of the game. This now looks sweet.
But please, PLEASE work on the frikking inventory system. Make items stack so that selling shit and keeping on top of the 150 item limit is not such a freaking hassle. Anyway as for the elevators. What I don't get is you could go through a transport and be at your destination in like 1/10th the time. So why was there even a need for the damn elevators?
Yeah, the old inventory system pissed me off, I hope they change it. I never had as much of a problem as everyone else did with the elevators, however.

EDIT:Quadruple Gonzo!

One thing that really broke immersion, in an otherwise very immersive game, was the fact that background music (club/bar music, mainly) would phase out during conversations. It would go back on when the camera faced you, but it would much quieter, or mute altogether when the camera switched to the other person, even though the music would still be going on. It was jarring.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, try talking to Septimus Oraka in Chora's Den, or Mallene Callis/Lorik Qui'in in the Noveria lounge.

Also, for those of you trashing the storyline, could you give me some idea of what you didn't like about it?

Same. The lifts, I could live with, but I couldn't stand the whole "Omni-gel half your inventory" problem that occured every five minutes (especially in Noveria).

Hm...I never noticed that. I'll have to look for that when I play ME again after my bricked Xbox comes back.

As for the story, I'm guessing they didn't like the amount of cliche in it, and there was a lot. It's the same situation with CoD4, however; a cliche-filled story that's told in an amazing way.

Even an considerably unoriginal storyline can excel if it's presented well enough. That's certainly the case in a lot of Bioware's games, in my opinion.

Agreed. I mean, for example, how cliche was the reveal in KotOR? But how much is it talked about?

Combat better work well, as that was a huge disappointment in Mass Effect. It made replay and exploration impossible for me.

Plus the planet exploration system was craptastic as well. Who wants to explore desolate waste lands?

Sounds absolutely fantastic. My only problem is that it's going to take too damn long for the game to come out. Really, Bioware, you couldn't have pushed for a late 2009 release? I know it may have been a better decision but still....2010 seems so far away.
Well, I'll use the same argument I use for Valve: if the end product is better, waiting a little while longer is acceptable. After all, think of, for example, KotOR II. That game was amazing, but it could have been so much better if LucasArts hadn't pushed Obsidian for a Christmas release.
Truth, but still, it's hard to wait a quarter of a year for anything, and I'm just complaining 'cos I've played the hell out of my original copy of Mass Effect and I can't wait for ME2 to come out.

Anyway, ME2 looks pretty good from everything I've seen, and I can only hope we get more info about it as soon as possible.

Guys, come on. You didn't like Mass Effect, that's fine, but you don't need to condemn those who did like it as being sheep. I mean, people just have different opinions, you know?
Hey I never condemned anyone to being sheeple, and I actually "liked" ME, I was just trying to state some improvements in my original post. I apologize if I went on a tangent a bit, can;t help it sometimes.

Yeah, that was more Zippy who said that stuff, but you were in a conversation about it with him, so I suppose I just wanted you to see that too. Kind of uncalled for, my bad.

Correction I did like ME and I could stand BS but I see them as under deved and unpolished games, sorry you are so easily entertained!

Just think if more consumers were a bit more blunt and nit picky we'd have better media.... instead we get "MADE IN CHINA"..........

edit
Humans are creatures that are ruled by mob mentalities and for consumerism its twice as potent and a dozen times more subtle.

It might be rude to call people sheep and zombies but in general they are because they rarely stand up and fight for something as a group, and consumers even voters are more apt to be apathetic looking for their lulzs rather than giving a damn about anythign else.

Now with that said who's more foolish the sheep that make the brunt of the herd of the poor fools that done black and demand attention from the mental zombies....

No no nothing to apologize for I was the idiot with the harsh tone. =^^=

But Its fact people are sheep because they are apathetic far more that anythign else.

My suggestions for ME Improvements... vary the gameplay...increase the length of the story proper...improve the soundtrack.. tweak the sensitivity on the Mako (I found the driving fine but whenever the camera panned, 'foreward' would become backward, etc)... give the guns a bit more kick... make controlling teammates either.

Just polishing stuff, basically.

i am teh excited!

Hoo wah, looks sweet.

Those animal things with the robot heads - remind me of cyborg versions of those little green guys in Half-Life, the way they run.

That mustache told me a lot of awesome things about a game that doesn't come out one year from now.

I refuse to look at anymore info. just so that I don't wait in anxiety and then explode.
