Nothing wrong with this. The number of squadmates really was a little overwhelming in the previous games and I always ended up falling back on my old favorites. I always felt like I was missing something by not taking other teammates more often.

When I first saw this I thought it meant you wouldn't be able to take as many characters with you on missions, which I thought was odd seeing as you only had 2 people in your party.

But this actually sounds like a good idea. While I did really like a lot of the characters, I feel like there were far too many. As long as I get to keep Mordin, Tali, and Garrus, I'll be happy.

Sorry kids, but I severely doubt that Liara and Wrex are coming back. What with Liara being the new Shadow Broker and Wrex being the king of the Klingons...er...I mean Krogan.

Legion will probably stick around to give us further insight into the Geth. And if Legion stays, Then Tali will probably stick around as well to provide some drama among the team.

Sounds like good news to me. Most of the squadmates in ME2 were crap and that I left in the Normandy except when I did their loyalty missions. Trim that list and give us a few awesome characters, not a pile of mediocre ones.

And what with Liara being in a screenshot in combat right next to Shepard, and the big one of Liara already being confirmed as a squadmate [http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-8027-First-Mass-Effect-3-Details-Drop.html]. Yep, you're totally right to condescendingly call everyone who wants Liara as a squadmate "kids" because she's never going to make it into Shepard's ME3 squad.

Slightly concerned this just means that I'm going to be stuck with Kaidan, Jacob, Miranda, etc. The problem Bioware seems to be having at the moment is that when it reduces something, it reduces it by taking out the interesting wildcards and putting vanilla boredom in its place.

I like the sound of this, Bioware. Always thought the squad structure in ME1 was a bit limited and ME2 had pointless characters (Gameplay wise).

But If Tali isn't a squad member, you will evoke the force of a million angry fanboys.
Tali was confirmed as a squad member in either the June 2011 issue of PC Gamer or the June 2011 issue of PS3 Magazine UK.
This invokes a sense of happiness in the Fleet of Tali'Zorah. Bioware will be allowed to finish this game.

Kasumi back? I don't care if she's in my squad, I just want her to stick around in some capacity...Bioware is going to make that happen, right?

Jack I can't imagine with hair, that seems wrong to me. Personality growth is likely though, although I image she'd stay a rebel at heart. Same for most of the characters actually...but I'll reserve judgement for later.

Sadly the characters I care about most for the most part can be removed with explanation, except maybe Garrus. Why, Thane, why!? As long as it has an impact and shows my actions had meaning, I can still see all being well.

If you take her with you for the final boss, and pick the paragon option, she basically gives TIM the bird. So she probably sticks with Shep

Please Bioware, just please... KEEP TALI IN THE TEAM!!!! <3

But yeah, this is actually a good thing. I didn't even use half the characters in Mass Effect 2, but I did liked them. As long as they make a good appearance, I'll be satisfied.

People I'd like seeing ditched: Jacob, Miranda, Samara, Grunt, Jack, Kaidan/Ashely.
People I don't care about: Grunt, Kasumi, Wrex
People I'd rather see stay: Thane(although I'll understand if he's out/dead due to his illness), Liara
People who had FUCKING BETTER BE IN THE GAME: Tali, Legion, Garrus. And Joker, of course.
Holy.....
You have the exact same list as I do except I'd swap Thane and Tali around.

So far they have only confirmed the following...

Ashley/Kaidan
Liara
Garrus
Tali
New guy

I cannot imagine many more will come if they intend to trim the squad. Miranda is likely given Cerberus' role and Jacob is a possibility for a similar reason. That said, Casey in another article made strong insinuations Wrex will not return as a squad mate.

Deeper Relationships, yea right. I played DA2, so I'll beleive that when I see it...

Man DA2 really put a dent in my trust in bioware, which makes me sad, since I used to love their games.

Ah, I took her with me on my renagade character, but not my paragon (Mordin replaced her on that playthough).
Well I'll look forward to have her probably returning then :)

less loyalty missions :( boooo i thought they were the best part of ME2

tho in terms of actual combat, i've only ever rolled with 2-3 different characters, the rest of them just sits on the Normandy the entire time.

I'm not so sure about Wrex - in fact, I'm fairly sure that he'll only be a temporary squad member - but I know for a fact that Liara's coming back as a full squad member. It was confirmed in the Game Informer article. Garrus was confirmed in the same article, and I'm fairly sure I read somewhere that Tali was definitely making a comeback.

While I was initially disappointed to hear that there'd be fewer squad members this time around, after thinking about it for a bit, I've come around. I mean, there were a few characters in Mass Effect 2 that I spent virtually no time with (beyond their loyalty/recruitment missions), and even one that I deliberately avoided. I mean, Jacob was fundamentally boring, and Jack just annoyed me. I would've preferred to see a few of the other characters get a little more development, just as I'm sure Jack/Jacob fans would've have rather seen those two get a little more screen time than they did, perhaps at the cost of a superfluous squad member.

In the end, I reckon that reducing the total number of squad members will let BioWare really focus their energy on developing those characters that remain, giving us an admittedly smaller group of far more fleshed out characters.

My word, positive reactions to something that Bioware said about Mass Effect 3? Heresy I say!

I actually think this is good news. There were wayyyyyyyyyy too many goddamn teammates in ME2. It sort of trivialized the whole concept. Having to do cut & paste missions for each one's loyalty, having to talk to all of them a million times. Having to pick between so many teammates for each mission who had more or less interchangeable usefulness. It was too much repetition and didn't really offer anything exciting or unique. Not to mention that all teammates always got XP no matter if you used them or not, which kind of felt like cheating.

They should make it so we get to chose which old and new potential squad members we take into our Team on the normandy. Seems more logical than taking time trying to decide which specific characters they should have as squad members.
