Well he looks wholly uninteresting and bland.

I'm incredibly wary by what they mean by "Perspective of the new player", granted that probably means he's just going to be asking questions about everything that was established in the first two games.
Yeah, probably he is just there to accomodate new players who purchased the "best entry point to the Mass Effect series" and didn't play the first two.
Are they really saying that the third game in a trilogy is the best entry point for the series?

Really?

not sure what i should think of this guy at the moment.
i guess i see when the games comes out. i also have my favorite characters i always take with me on a mission. first i try every one out and who ever is in my eyes useful or helpful.
in ME1 i always had liara and ashley with me, sometimes even garrus. liara was really useful with her biotics wile ashley/garrus did the shooting part.
in ME2 i always had miranda and kasumi. but before the kasumi DLC, i had garrus to replace jakop. miranda was useful in combat had had useful biotics wile kasumi was really great with eliminating enemies with her stealth approach.

since i play both sexes of shepard, were each of them has their abilities, having the right people in your team is vital.

so yes, lets see how useful this guy will be to me.

Alright, more generic white guys! Now I can choose between the muscular space marine and the other muscular space marine to join my pre-existing muscular space marine into battle.

Since this is supposed to be a war to save the whole planet I was kind of hoping we'd get more ethnicities, or at least nationalities, considering the approximately 99% chance that this guy is either American or British.

Well, whatever. I'll just stick to Tali and Thane (please tell me Thane is a squadmate in this).

My issue isn't really with his form (although his form is pretty ugly) but rather with his function. I understand that they want to explain stuff to new players, but I'm not a new player and I don't want to waste a lot of time explaining stuff that I already know. That time could be used for more actual story. Isn't playing catch-up what that "interactive comic" is for?

he looks incredibly bland. Also, what the HELL happened to hair in the 22nd century? Why is it that only Japanese devs even try to render hair that isn't a goddamn buzzcut? Not every guy has short hair, and even then not every guy who does shaves their head

...

Ohh... my... god...

He looks like a white Mr. T but with more hair...

I fall into the wait and see group myself, but I will be seriously upset if he doesn't, at least once, say "I pity the foo" or at least calls someone a "foo."

Really, we don't need that much brutish testosterone in Mass Effect 3. We already have Krogans. Really it would get a wee bit boring if everything got all "space mariney" up in my Mass Effect. I mean, it's implied already, because it's generally about a space marine on a Navy vessel. Let's try to break some of that up shall we?

More intellect please. Since we are in space, and hyper-future and all that insignificant filler-material.

He looks kind of simple. That being said, they can do a huge amount with a simple character. Imagine him having almost a childlike moral compass because of this; he will view things completely different than people who have their minds much more entangled in the problem. "What do you mean you let the Geth live, they tried to kill you. Giant insects that once threatened the universe, and you didn?t kill them, are you insane?" we could use another character with a viewpoint on things rather than another just saying "all hail Commander Shepard" or "well it's a 50/50, you choose" to every decision. But for storytelling purposes, once you dive deeper into the character, he could be bothered by the fact that everyone thinks he's a meathead and treats him like a child, but at the same time realizes he isn't that smart. There is so much they can do if they don't just copy paste "big meathead" into the game as a team mate. Here?s to hoping they make him a great character.

I was actually losing hope for BioWare seeing the trailers but this guy actually helped me regain trust in them. This just seems like the sort of guy that hasn't really been explored in Mass Effect yet, so a fresh personality is always interesting. Jacob served a similar basic role but really he was also kind of a closeted Shepard fanboy so there are key differences.

This is what I see:

A solider.
Probably spends a lot of time aboard ship. Travel by ship has got to be boring. All racing throughout the galaxy and stuff. What do you have to do in the intervening time? Shep breaks regs by chatting up an flirting with everyone, Looks like Vega just hits the gym. No big deal. I knew lots of guys in the Navy that would hit the gym when they were bored.

The outfit is more than mildly reminiscent of the Alliance fatigues in ME1, with an HD makeover. Seems he's wearing a standard-issue undershirt instead of the overshirt, but there's a lot of perfectly acceptable reasons for him to do so.

I don't see the "Tiny hands" complaint, but whatever, people are shallow.
Likewise - That's not a twisted knee/man girdle, bro, that's his uniform.
Say it with me, now. Uni-form.
Shepard wears one too, is what I'm saying here.

Dude needs a serious shave and that haircut looks bad from my perspective - plus, I'm not a fan of what I see of that ink, but I don't see the whole artwork, so judgement is reserved. He's not "Orange" to my eyes, but he definitely has a tan, or just somewhat swarthy skin.
Maybe it's Street Fighter, but Vega seems like a mildly Castillian name to me, so he might be Spanish or Mediterranean. Could very easily explain the complexion.
Of course, that's a pretty moot point considering the Alliance has the technology to alter the skin tone/eye colour of its citizens. (Seriously, look at the ME1 code, guys.) It was probably in there just as a hand-wavey excuse to have things like a black Shepard with green eyes and red hair, but it is an established thing in-universe.

I look forward to seeing what Bioware does with this new character.
But I'm probably going to keep my squaddies relatively Ashley and Tali shaped.

That is horrid. Seriously, he looks like another cookie-cutter Bioware leading man. I mean, I didn't adore Kaiden when I first played ME, but he, in retrospect, was far better than Jacob and probably this guy. Please tell me we get another Virmire.

While I'm not really a fan of the character design, if I don't like him, I just won't use him. That's what I've done with the other two games. It's not really a big deal. With such a big cast to add to your squad it's really okay to have characters you don't like. I'll have Garrus and Tali so if all else fails, I'll be using the same squad for the third time.

I hope he's an interesting character and not a Kaiden.

I still hope Garrus is the male homosexual romance option. If it's this guy it seems a bit stereotypical to be it (beefcake/hypermacho gay stereotype).

I can't help but *want* to punch him in the face.

Something tells me that this guy is going to end up like Jacob in terms of popularity. But hey, it's still to early to tell. Let's give the new guy a chance.

stop stereotyping guys. That's like thinking Vin Diesel doesn't play D&D because he always plays tough guys in movies.
I'm guessing that everyone has forgotten that Bioware created this guy:
[footnote]Yes I know he fulfills the "Grizzled Veteran" role (and is a Mandalorian) and therefor has a reason to be a bit of a cocky "Shoot-first-ask-questions-later" space marine, but it just goes to show that Bioware is good at creating good characters.[/footnote]

Also, Wrex probably would've gotten the same treatment this guy is getting had he been human instead of Krogan.

While I would align myself with the "can't judge based on one picture" crowd, I must say I am afraid that Mass Effect 3 is headed even further away from the one that started it all. I really hope the plot is written by the guys who wrote the first one, because the whole thing with the Human *spoiler* was a bit ridiculous.

Oh and I never use humans in my party anyway so I don't really care how this guy turns out :p
If anything happens to Legion I swear I am going to burn Bioware down.

He looks like he was pulled from Call of Duty. I can't imagine wanting to use him as your soldier class, not when you can just use Ashley, Grunt, or Zaeed to fill that role.

Ok, yeah, let's see what he's actually like in the game. Maybe he's actually a good character. I'm just skeptical because he looks like he's supposed to fill the "I'm just a soldier" kind of role, like Jacob.
