His face looks a lot like my boyfriend, which is creepy.

I'll wait to see him in action before I pass judgement.

Why do we need another human crew member? I want to see a Hanar floating around the Normandy.
No kidding. The main reason I'm pissed they're giving a crew member slot to this guy is because we already have about half a dozen human characters. If they want to have a "new guy" type personality on the team they should have just used a different species. Like, we could have had a Batarian who hadn't left Batarian space until just now, so (s)he doesn't really know what's going on with Shepard. That would have been so much more interesting than another friggin' human.

5 bucks says he's bi and gigglesquee

All he probably does is explain everything to the idiots who haven't played the other 2 games.

I was actually losing hope for BioWare seeing the trailers but this guy actually helped me regain trust in them.
Really? You change opinion that fast?

More brawn and less brains and a potential homosexual relationship for Shepard. This might interest a few people and I'll may see what happens later, but after I make a new Shepard, because I want to see what happens with his actual relationship with Tali and a possible love triangle with Liara involved. And let's hope Miranda and Jack get jealous =D.

In fact, didn't Bioware said that there were not going to be new love interests in ME3?.

While I would align myself with the "can't judge based on one picture" crowd, I must say I am afraid that Mass Effect 3 is headed even further away from the one that started it all. I really hope the plot is written by the guys who wrote the first one, because the whole thing with the Human *spoiler* was a bit ridiculous.

Oh and I never use humans in my party anyway so I don't really care how this guy turns out :p
If anything happens to Legion I swear I am going to burn Bioware down.
It changed hands during Mass Effect 2.
I can't recall the names, but a newer guy took over for Mass Effect 2 and he wrote the main over arcing plot. He's in full command for number 3.

Your mileage my vary, but this was also the guy who encouraged the "Humans are special" elements to the universe allegedly.
There was a whole thread on it in the Bioware forums some time back. Its one of the main concerns for Mass Effect 3 from the originals fans.

Casey Hudson amended that statement shortly after. I think this guy was all but confirmed.

What's wrong with you guys?

This is the whole of the information we have - concrete - on James Vega

~~~
He's an experienced soldier, but not experienced with the goings-on of Galactic Poltics.
His military designation is N6 - this makes him elite special operations, not at Shep's skill level, but only one peg down.
This picture.
One other picture where he's wearing armour.
~~~

We have absolutely no reason to believe he's stupid. At all. The Genius-Bodybuilder character archetype exists! It's nearly as prolific as the warrior-poet! There's also zero garuntee that he's a pure combat-type. He could be Combat/tech, hell, he could even be an engineer.

i hope its just a bad pose, because he looks really awkward. he kinda looks like the dude with the fohawk from glee (ive never seen the show but ive seen commercials for it), which is not what id call a good thing. i think he has potential to be an interesting character, im just not a fan of the design of the character. my biggest complaint though, is that hes human. i hate humans. i know they're kinda really important to the story of mass effect (the first one, anyway) but i spend my entire life around humans, i want to hang out with aliens!

*if anyone responds to this, all i ask is that you dont mention anything from mass effect 2, i only just finished the first mass effect and i dont want any spoilers. thank you*

I don't really have an opinion on this guy, since we know nothing about how he's written. Isn't that 99% of what Bio characters are like? Although the fauxhawk is hilarious.

Well, he certainly has room to grow in character.

I'm with the "wait and see" crowd, but I have trust in Bioware. Hell, I can already see some good potential in this guy: All he knows is fighting and Shepard is the only one who can help him see the galaxy differently, in a much more peaceful way.

Haven't they been collecting data on everyone's playstyles for the past two games? They have to be aware that their human males are like the least used squadmates.

Oh no. They added a meathead, jock character that doesn't fulfill my nerd wish fantasies for the game. How awful. Clearly introducing a wide variety of personalities and character archetypes is something that Bioware obviously shouldn't be doing.
Exactly. And if he does turn out to be the "oo-rah, durr, kick alien butt!" stereotype that a lot of people seem to be afraid of, we know that sort of attitude generally won't fly in the ME universe so he'll probably be shot down at every turn.

Also, seeing as how you can virtually ignore certain characters in the previous ME games, if you really don't like him you can probably just leave him on the ship and never use him. Problem solved.

Maybe it's Street Fighter, but Vega seems like a mildly Castillian name to me, so he might be Spanish or Mediterranean.
Hey, maybe he is and maybe he speaks with a slight spanish accent. The development of this character could go pretty much anywhere. ^^

Ah! Well, since they're adding in that new melee class, they needed at least one party member to be the archetypical version - which explains the muscles. After all, if he's going to be going up against Krogan, Geth, and Reapers with a sword, you're gonna need some serious arm strength.

I saw this on Bioware's Facebook page a few days ago. The comments were brilliant. And I shall echo my favorite:

It's a space guido!

EDIT: Every single Bioware game I've ever played has had at least one shitty character. Just to name the recent ones, Dragon Age had Alister, KotOR had Carth, Mass Effect had Kaiden (and I know a lot of folks hated Ashley,) and Mass Effect 2 had, well, I honestly ended up liking everyone.

Right...he better have a great personality then. Indeed something along the lines of Jayne from Firefly, cuz otherwise he'll be a generic waste of polygons that is gonna do more calibrating than Garrus ever did.

This time I kinda hope that romance can happen behind the scenes. Where you initially think Vega is just some dude, in the way that Jenkins was just some dude. But then you find that Vega is bangin' Ashley... or Miranda... or JacoborKaidenorKellyorthosetwoengineers.

But Vega's presence could be entertaining. Going to the citadel, he'd be like a little kid. "Wait, so these cow-people say what emotion they're feeling and then talk like robots? That's awesome!"
