This only fuels my notion that Bobby Kotick is the devil and Treyarch are one of the safest goddamn companies on the market, cranking out FPS after FPS with generally nothing but unambigiously heroic US/UK soldiers and dirty filthy middle-eastern/asian enemies. Also, I'm starting to believe the claim that people are sheep. I'm soooo happy, can't you tell..

you must recognise that most of these sales must have been console since last time i checked the escapist for a pole most people said that they were going to either abstain from buying for a while or just not buy it and since the escapist is mainly a computer gaming website.

also i have heard that the pc port is bad due to horrendous coding and memory leaks which causes large amounts of fps lag.

i guess i will have to wait for everyone to stop praising this game after the "shiny" effect has worn off and then see if there are some independent reviews that are worth looking at to see if the game i actually worth buying since im not going to buy this game on first rush like i did with WaW and im glad that i didnt even bother with MW2 since that was a pile of shit. The only reason why CoD games tend to sell well anymore is not on merit but on the fact that it is a CoD game well thats my 2 cents anyway

Oh god, I wish people like you would shut the hell up. Not everyone likes what you like, so grow up and learn the definition of the word opinion. Games don't sell this much by being "mediocre." Get off your stupid I hate everything popular bandwagon.
You realize you just contradicted yourself right? Aside from that, I never said I hated Black Ops or CoD in general, and my opinions are not formed based on popularity.

Great.....just great.
When they release another one next year, will people flock to it once more?
When is everybody gonna wake the fuck up?
A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE SOMETHING I DO NOT.

THIS CANNOT STAND.
It's funny, cuz the type of person who would buy a slightly updated MW2 for $60 at launch is exactly the type of person who would overreact to something said on an internet forum from a purely industrial standpoint.

Sad. Whatever we do to improve the image of gamers is sucked straight back into the box by the majority who want to keep it as gun-toting, all-male, army guys. And handing the King of Schadenfreude their wallets as they go.
Hey, you want to know what's worse: The fact that CoD Black Ops is now representative of all games in the eyes of the mainstream audience. Just as last year with MW2, the mainstream media will be looking at this game as an example of all video games in general.

Hurray for shortsightedness!

"with first-day sales of $170 million in the U.S. alone? Isn't that just adorable? It all seems so long ago. The big banana in the fruit basket these days is Call of Duty: Black Ops, which had estimated first-day sales of $360 million on 5.6 million units in North America and the U.K."

So they lumped the UK in the figures this time? Where as the original figures were only from North America? Hmmmm me thinks this didnt sell as well.

Wake up from what? They enjoy the games, they buy the games.

I'm not even buying Black Ops right now. It's just that the reaction and hatred it's getting is so over the top, it's kind of funny.

What's worse is all the people crying out "YOU ONLY HATE IT BECAUSE ITS POPULAR".

On the contrary, I quite like some popular things. I just believe that we cannot move on as an industry when we're still only known for selling teenage gun and torture porn.

And spectacles like this just underline them, no matter who makes, buys or enjoys the games.

Because Call of Duty is totally the only game being made right now, guys.
No, don't be silly, but, in a industry where we're supposed to value creativity and originality, this is a big step backwards.

I didn't say I hate everything popular. I loved Call of Duty 4 and still enjoyed World at War but this shit is just getting out of hand. Releasing a full priced reskin which adds fuck all to the game that could have been done by mods or patches once a year? Fuck off.

This game is in no way worth £40, and in fact it wouldn't even be worth the effor to pirate. Anyone still following this series after the rotting peice of shit that was MW2 and Infinity Ward's death at the hands of Activision is a fucking retard and I hope you enjoy your buyer's remorse.
So, at least 5.6 million people are "fucking retards" that will be filled with an overwhelming sense of self-doubt because they happen to enjoy something you don't, am I reading that right? Man, if only we could all be as discerning and wise as you. Please, enlighten us in the ways of not being a "fucking retard", so that we may all live up to whatever standards you'll arbitrarily set up to justify shitting on something popular in a lazy attempt to set yourself apart from the crowd.

You're right, because clearly, all this sequel amounts to is a community mod. One with an entirely new campaign, entirely new weapons, new multiplayer maps, new multiplayer modes and features, a new voice cast, a different dev team, new characters, improved graphics and new gameplay mechanics, sure, but if you ignore those, yeah, it's the same thing they've been releasing for years, just like how Half-Life 2 was just a re-skin of Half-Life.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Called it
Call Of Duty: Pink Ops: Will This Franchise Ever Stop?

OT: If its a great game (haven't tried it) it would be logical to assume it would get its share of money.

This is always going to be the duality (ugh, did I really use that word) of the games industry; on the one hand they're toys and on the other they're absolutely not. And even the games community itself struggles with what's what.

It is funny how this lumbering giant of a game is just rolling off my back this time. I guess I learned my lesson last year when MW2 seduced me into buying it and I realized the butter was spreading thin.

Wake up to the fact that I've just had 3 of the most fun days of my life due this game?

Black Ops is amazing and deserves the sales. It's MILES better than MW2.
