A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE SOMETHING I DO NOT.

THIS CANNOT STAND.
It's funny, cuz the type of person who would buy a slightly updated MW2 for $60 at launch is exactly the type of person who would overreact to something said on an internet forum from a purely industrial standpoint.
Fine, take it from me, someone who is too poor to buy that and would much rather just observe it and maybe get it when it goes down in price.

A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE SOMETHING I DO NOT.

THIS CANNOT STAND.

Does it make more sense now? You sounded like an elitist "i'm better than everyone else because my view point is different" rebel.

So much for evolving as an industry.
Because Call of Duty is totally the only game being made right now, guys.
See, this is what I don't get about the whole "evolving as an industry" thing. If Valve releases a FPS but makes it a game about escaping something instead of shooting enemies, it's praised to no end and people clamor for a sequel (way to evolve) or when they finally decide to release the next episode of Half Life it will be met with the same fanfare (even though it's the same stuff since HL2). It's not so much that they want a real evolution in gaming, it's just that it seems they just don't like the publishers, developers or genre, not the games.

Does there need to be evolution in gaming? Of course, but evolution takes time. We're only 30 years removed from the blips and bloops of Asteroids and Space Invaders and we've come this far which is incredible in itself. I think a lot of the concerns about games beoming to sterile comes from people who came around during the PS1/2 era and have seen the huge strides the industry has taken since then instead of seeing it from birth until now. The people making games now are the people that grew up with games like Wolfenstein and Duke Nukem so they are making the games they wanted to see back then. The people that will really make the big strides in the future are the ones playing the games we have now during their formative years.

So now it's Treyarch's turn to get their big fat bonuses sucked out dry. And then they get fired and all and Activision moves on to the next team.

Does anyone remember when selling a million copies earned you 'Greatest Hits' or 'Platinum' status and got marked down to twenty dollars?

Yeah, it would be nice right about now.

Seriously? 2 pages of this?

I'm speechless, really. As a Call Of Duty fan, I have been called an "impressionable prick", a "fucking retard" and many other wonderful things, despite the fact that people saying this have most likely never played Black Ops.

Thanks a lot, people.

*Sigh* God damnit guys, why do you people still think Call Of Duty deserves that? Stop being such fucking impressionable pricks.

*EDIT* I predict a flood of flaming and trolling soon.
Ahem.

Having played it online on a friend's console, I couldn't tell you the differences between Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2, other than new maps. If there was ever a game that did not deserve it's success, it's this one.

@everyone who's bought this: Thank you for spawning another half dozen cheap-assed MW clones, which includes the next CoD game.

And deserved, I would say. If anything Black Ops has fixed several issues MW2 made with the multiplayer, for which they should be commended for.

Yes, when will everyone wake up and accept that what you think is right? What a bunch of bad, bad people.
Really? I haven't heard anything good about it, well, for PC at least. Someone on another site said that quality of Black Ops on launch on PC made MW2 on PC look perfect.
It is a lot more balanced, but it still has problems. Some of the killstreaks are still ridiculous for instance.
I heard there were more issues actually playing it, like tons of lag, poor optimizations, etc.

based on the commercials with the everyday people blowing the hell out of a battleground, this should have sold at least 10 billion copies. So I consider it a fail because of that fact.

Why? Because we like a game that you obviously don't?

OT: Black Ops > MW2 IMO so I am not surprised.

Surprise, surprise.

I'll bet MW2 also beat World @ War in launch day sales. And I'll bet World @ War beat the original MW in launch day sales.

Anyone follow the pattern? Increasing launch day sales are no big deal. In fact, if the next title in a series does worse on launch day, thats when you should take notice.

I love how so many contrarians we have on the Escapist. Something does well and so many people feel obligated to hate it.
As the sang goes: "the proof is in the pudding."

5.6 million gamers (including myself) are enjoying some especially fine pudding.

uhhhh.... I don't think that's his point.

I think it's just something along the lines of the dumb kids with short attention spans who always claim "THIS IS TEH BEST GAME EVARRRRR!11" whenever a new cawl uv dooty comes out.

Sad. Whatever we do to improve the image of gamers is sucked straight back into the box by the majority who want to keep it as gun-toting, all-male, army guys. And handing the King of Schadenfreude their wallets as they go.
Is there something wrong with the majority of gamers being guys who like FPS's? I doubt there is a conspiracy by the male gamers of the world to go out and buy a big-name title just to mess with the rest of us.

I remember the day MW2 was released. There was a factory fire across the road (Alva Industrial Estate it was on the Scottish BBC1 News) and we were let out for a week.

This is great! Now, since we have contributed so greatly to them financially, they have no reason to charge us money for DLC, right?

OK. I am calm. I will not punch the next middle-schooler who is sure to come up to me and tell me how awesome Black Ops is. I will treat him as one would an asylum escapee and quietly flee to play some more S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Eat that Kottick, I'll follow you to your grave quoting you saying that you didn't expected BO to outsell MW2 neither on long or short term.

Congrats Treyarch.

I'd be lieing if I said that I didn't go "fuck..."

I'll just post my usual response to Black Ops;

Me said:
Since it had the option, I will not be buying Black Ops, and I will tell you why.

I will not be buying Black Ops because Activision is publishing it, and the CEO of Activision is Robert "Bobby" Kotick. I do not wish to support that man with my money, even if it's only a paltry $60 compared to the million's he'll make off of everyone else. As a result, I am pretty much "boycotting" Activision, I guess you could say. I will not buy any of their products until either Kotick is removed or cleans up his act. This may result in me missing out on some great experiences, but that's my loss.

However, I do understand that other people are very excited for the game, a few of my friends included. I wish no ill towards you all for wanting to buy Black Ops, it genuinely looks like a nifty game. There is absolutely no reason why you guys shouldn't get the best bang for your buck.

And so, with this, I wish all of you who are purchasing Black Ops a good game. I, personally, will not be purchasing it for my own reasons and you will be purchasing it for your own, and that is perfectly fine. I'll probably play the game with my friend, split-screen and whatnot, or borrow it if he gets it for PS3.

Enjoy your game. I mean that in the most sincere way I can.
