"It's not political correctness, it's fundamental respect," Toulouse adds. "If you think the swastika symbol should be re-evaluated by societies all over the Earth, I think that's great. Your Xbox Live profile or in game logo, which doesn't have the context to explain your goal, is not the right place to do that."
In wasn't sure, but this decided me. I respect the man's position, and indeed support him.

I have seen so many swastikas, and I don't even play all that often. Given the volume of them, it's clear the majority of people are creating them thinking they're being funny or clever. As such, ban 'em all.
It's clear that your post was written to showcase your superiority and higher intelligence as compared to those creating swastika emblems for a quick laugh, so through a skewed version of your logic, you deserve a nice ban as well.

A swastika should not be offensive. I'm Japanese, and if I get shown a picture of the nuke symbol, I don't demand anyone using it be banned. Sure it's a different issue, but if I were to complain about it my underlying reasoning would essentially be the same.

And also just as a side note, smug, elitist posts like the one quoted really make my blood boil. Another side note, if that's sarcasm, which it probably isn't, please denote that you are indeed saying it in such a tone.
Hate to say it, but the phrase 'history is written by the victor' could not be more true here. Your side lost, thats why the nazi symbol is a no no and why people in the west arent offended by a nuclear symbol.

This had in all honesty never occured to me. Nice to see things from a different prospective though.

Yeah I highly doubt the people using this symbol on this game, are using it as it was originally intended. More for trolling purposes. I highly doubt any of them are buddhist. Considering this game goes against anything they represent. But yeah can't say I didn't see this coming.

Are you really buying Mr. Toulouse's "fundamental respect" bullshit? Be careful if you are that you don't end up buying a $100 gold Rolex watch from him, too.

Have you ever spent any time on Xbox Live? I never have but that ain't enough to stop me from knowing that if you're looking to find "fundamental respect" in a community, Xbox Live ain't the place where you'll find it. You're more likely to find some asshat with a horse dick emblem calling you a "fag" or "gay."

Now, I'm not saying anything against a community where it's a norm to sport a horse dick emblem and call other community members "fag" and "gay." If that floats your boat, more power to you. To each, his own. But you can't be the one owning and operating that kind of community and still want to get up on a high horse dick and talk to me about "fundamental respect." I ain't listenin' to that bullshit. Not without laughing in your face.

Well, you can always use a Soviet symbol, so people don't remember the genocides, death camps, torture, raids, murder and villainy committed by the Soviet Union during WW2 - Because its all OK when Russians do it.
True. I'd be a lot more pleased being nuked by Russians than one of those other dirty countries with nukes.
EDIT: Workers of the world, unite!

purely out of interest, are they applying the same logic to the Hammer and Sickle??? if nothing else stalin had a higher k/d ratio (and to anyone who says that stalin did not target a single racial group {ala hitler + the Jews} then ask your nearest cossack!).
Except he failed on the "Finland" map.

Could have been lag...
i was told that it was some quick-scoping, spawn camping, snipewhore noob. could be both.

To be fair, the Nazis only committed one of the most heinous crimes in recorded human history.
really? I would say thee most notorious, I mean how many people were killed due to Alexander and his army? what about Stalin?
Alexander the great or Alexander the 1st because Alexander the great died to save a soldier of his army that he didn't even know helped revolutionize his country and is one of the greatest/best people ever to be put in political leadership.

I don't even use the swastika as my icon and I'm a bit frosted by this story. Just another example of political correctness trumping all logic or choice. If Microsoft - or before them, even, the ESRB - had an issue with the swastika, why was Black Ops rated and published on the Xbox?

"It's not political correctness, it's fundamental respect," my backside. Fantastic job painting prickery as nobility.
If you read ESRB doesn't even look at the Online as it really can't rate it, No matter what if they give a rating to the online then it'll be destroyed in a few days of release due to some unknown offensive object. So your point is void

That's probably going to be its default/commonly known context from now until doomsday.

The ban isn't unreasonable at all, and most people who use it will be doing so to troll.
Unless you think most 12-24 year olds actually understand the history and nature of the symbol prior to WW2.
Yeah...not fucking likely.
No shit, obviously all these people are just fucking insensitive trolls, not only are they doing the right thing (Microsoft, I mean), but they gave a very mature and understandable explanation that didn't even condemn the troll's arguments, but just said "take it somewhere else"

Get over it trolls.

OH NO! THE RIGHT FOR TROLLS TO POST SWASTIKAS ONLINE IS BEING INFRINGED!?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Come ON people. get over it, seriously, they're acting like these people are fundamentally undermining their basic rights, it's immature and insulting to people who really DO suffer rights violations.

Wait, what? That's rediculous. I was going to say about the Swastika not actually being totally Nazi, but the post already does that. I hate the latest generation of people whining that things are "unjust", "offensive" and "racist" etc. They're totally in the wrong and have way too much power. It's one of (the few :p) thing the French do right, since they banned burkahs (most likely spelt wrong but oh well, they're those headwrap thingies) outright, and I couldn't agree more with the decision.

Something I've always been curious about, are they banning it because they hate WWII, or because they hate the Nationalist Socialist Workers Party? The NAZI party is a legitimate political party, and on a certain level I think this is wrong solely on the basis of being discriminitory.

It'd be like banning the donkeys for the entirety of the democratic party because of Al Gore and his Mean Green Machine posse or elephants for the entire republican party because of Sara Palin and the tea party. It is their game and their service, and I accept that, but just because you can do something doesn't make it right.

I can't believe not a single person at Microsoft knew that the Swastika is the Buddhists' religious symbol. (And some other Oriental religions, I think Hinduism.)

Might as well ban the cross and the star of David while you're at it.

EDIT: I misread the article, my bad. Apparently they did know. Still though, it's more a religious symbol than anything.
