Not sure if anyone else noticed, in the picture, the guys hand is in the middle of the handguard . OT: I hope this game has dismemberment like W@W. That really help me become immersed and I was pissed when MW2 didn't have it.
I wouldn't laugh if my house was doused in doo-doo, unless someone else had to clean it up. If I was stuck on clean-up doodie (PUN), I'd be quite pissed.Kelethor said:With your last sentence, I think the immersion debate can safely come to a close. but as for your statements on GTA and Saints Row (haven't played Postal so I cannot make a statement on it) I guess it all comes down to what people think when you say terrorist. sadly, when the word terrorist is brought up, most North Americans will think of the same thing. a male, of middle-eastern decent, with a bomb strapped to his chest is this moral? of course not, but that is what comes to mind to many,if not most people, when someone mention's terrorists. also, I found that Saint's Row had a certain...comedic flare to it. you could certainly butcher thousands of people with a wide variety of weapons, but you could also throw shit at people's house. now, this may be just me, but I don't think I would be afraid of a terrorist who threw poo at my house. Id most likely just laugh.
GTA, while hardly as funny SR 2, suffers from the "terrorist Prejudice". For Example, let's say a white man (Nico Bellic) were to hold someone hostage for ransom. the news headline would be something along the line as "Criminal's kidnap young woman!" were as say a person that the authorities can Identify as middle eastern descent, the headlines would read "Terrorist hold's young girl hostage!" and this is hardly GTA IV fault, as indeed, many of the actions committed in the game (Hijacking, Murder, intimidation, ETC) would qualify as acts of terrorism, but don't because when most people look at Nico Bellic, they don't see a terrorist. they see a Russian immigrant.
Parents who think that their children shouldn't watch pixels get tourtured, but they think its fine if they buy the game that involves killing people and the M rating on it? What the hell are parents thinking these days?TerribleAssassin said:I see tortured by the Viet Cong as one..
But we all know, like MW2, immersive story-telling can lead to some bad press by over-pretective parents and Fox news..
Different context, so to speak.Lacsapix said:Why is shooting down unarmed civilians so bad?
I've killed over tens of thousands of civilians in GTA.
Exactly. It served a purpose to progress the games plot along further, and (if you fill in the sad amount of plot holes with reasonable guesses yourself) makes a good bit of sense.HeySeansOnline said:So who knows what controversy may happen here. However If they go for It, It won't work, I like to think No Russian existed only as a plot point, and was not pre made for the "Oh my god controversy!" factor.
Not me personally. Well put it this way: since the UK secretary's moan about Medal of Honor, my local gaming shops aren't taking pre-orders anymore...Hardcore_gamer said:You honestly think the game will sell poorly because you can play as the Taliban? Besides the fact that most people just don't care, there is also the somewhat significant fact that a large portion of gamers aren't even American. In fact I think the escapist has more Europeans then Americans on it.SalamanderJoe said:Go Treyarch. I'm glad that's what they've worked for. Immersion is always better than contraversy. It's why Medal of Honor won't sell very well in October because no one can get beyond the whole, 'play as the Taliban, kill US soliders' thing.
