Logan, dou you really think No Russian didn't push the envelope for storytelling in games? Because it definitely did, and it's one of the mmost memorable levels of any video game ever.

Everything I have read about Black Ops makes me belive it will be a stand out, fantastic game. Treyarch won me over with WaW due to the sheer effort and listening to the community for ideas. They seem to be building on this attitude which enabled WaW (mainly due to zombies) to be an unforgettable game. IW should have taken notice for MW2 and maybe it wouldn't have been a disposable generic throw away shooter that will be easily forgotten.

I second this. I think Treyarch was doing pretty damn fine with WaW because they seemed to make it more of a "Realities of war" type thing while still going for a load of testosterone and "Oh shit" moments that can also keep you on the edge a bit(Assaulting the Reichstag and getting ambushed in numerous levels are good examples).

Personally, I didn't mind some of the levels in MW2, but it got quite repetitive after a while and seemed to drift away from the great work in Modern Warfare.

Peace~

Call of Duty: Black Ops might push a few people's buttons, says Treyarch, but only to make the story better.

Modern Warfare 2's "No Russian" level, which asked players to gun down scores of unarmed civilians, earned the game a certain degree of notoriety. But when asked if Black Ops would have a similar section, Treyarch's Josh Olin said that it was immersion, rather than controversy, that the studio was aiming for.
So what Olin here is saying that Infinity Ward only stuck in 'No Russian' in Modern Warfare 2 simply to get people's panties in a twist?

Go Treyarch. I'm glad that's what they've worked for. Immersion is always better than contraversy. It's why Medal of Honor won't sell very well in October because no one can get beyond the whole, 'play as the Taliban, kill US soliders' thing.
Which, by the way, I don't get at all. If you're gonna kill in game, why can't you then decide whom, and how to kill?

EDIT: I don't mean to imply that that's your point-of-view.

Why is shooting down unarmed civilians so bad?
I've killed over tens of thousands of civilians in GTA.
Thats what basically sold the game...

and GTA people are squishy and screamy and give a certain humor when then flop across your hood... IE Saints Row 2 + Car Mass Hole (cheat) and drive thru people and snicker with glee as grandma does a cartwheel over the roof..
And not mention that there is an actual incentive to kill people: money.
