I've been thinking that for a good couple years now. But damn if he doesn't know how to make a good game. Besides, isn't Gearbox already poking fun at the Chief in Duke's new game?

They day I see the cheif in a game other than the Halo series, is the day I loose all confidence in 343 Industries to not let the Halo franchise die off completely. Having the Cheif in another series would contadict everything in BOTH series, completly ruining any value the storylines of whatever sieries the Cheif was mixed with, as well as the Halo storyline. Unless you do what Valve did and purposely built the storylines of two games to be able to have crossovers, you CANNOT MAKE A CROSSOVER WORK AND EXPECT TO RETAIN THE PERCENTAGE OF THE CONSUMER INDUSTRY WHO BUY YOUR GAMES FOR THE STORYLINE.

Aside from the fact that crossovers never work, you have to consider that whilst GoW fans wouldn't mind tearing one of the biggest characters in gaming limb from limb, you have to consider that if that happened, the Halo community would be in uproar, and is substantially larger than the GoW community. So I applaud Microsoft for deciding NOT to allow something that would plunge gamers into an armed war in the streets.

Also, you can't put Cheif into GoW, because if Spartans were in that game, even as a small, one pixel cameo, the whole series would change. The Locust would've never been able to get any foothold on the surface, if it were defended by Spartans. ESPECIALLY if one of those Spartans happened to be Sgt. Jhonson. (who actually IS an S-I, by the way).
so if crossovers destroy the storyline than how can you allow models from the single player campaign to be used in multiplayer where they die several times each round?
but you are just trolling anyway, right?
I don't agree with you, you are therefore trolling.

Seriously? Like, seriously?

no it's just the combination of the avatar, the name and the vigorous defense of the halo franchise that made me believe he was either trolling or a die hard halo fanatic

Shame. After all, Microsoft seemed cool with modders making a chief skin in Unreal Tournament 3. And was even cool when that skin was able to be used by PS3 users.
Not going after modders for a minor copyright infraction isn't really "cool". It's just "not complete asshole".

I think some discretion in using Master Chief is a good thing. Overexposure is not your friend.

Wow. Because he's a fan of halo, you think he's either a die hard fanatic or a troll?

Do you even know what a troll is? I don't think so.

i am pretty sure a troll is a hideous creature that lives under a bridge.
and would you kindly name one valid reason why crossovers in of characters into different franchises (as skins for the multiplayer part) would somehow destroy the storyline of one franchise?

oh and nobody who is not a die hard halo fanatic could write something about "plunging gamers into armed in war in the streets" over a bland space marine and not start to crack up with laughter

First of all, regarding Soul Caliber and MK, as I said in my last post, games that have no real storyline and are just beat'em up fighting games (Like SC and MK), really can't mess up the storylines of other games. Second, with Smash Bros., it is primarily a multiplayer game like SC and MK, although it DOES have a storyline in it (that must've taken less than an hour to create), and is really just a tolken gesture to Nintendo fanboys who would love nothing more than to see their favorite nintendo characters working together, even if it woul make less sense than combustable lemons. On your point with Frostmorne... I have no idea who he is, so this is just assumption that he's a comic book character like Wolverine and the X-Men are, but usually comic companies like Marvel and D.C. construct their comics so they could easily fit together if they needed to, for example, even though we all know that Gotham and Metropolis are really the same city, since they're different in the comics, they can be fit together that way.

Whilst I am not opposed to having characters from different franchises as unlockable multiplayer skins (multiplayer, as I said, has no storyline), adding a character, even without the idioligy of that character's game, into another game, can ruin it for everyone. Also, assomeone else mentioned, Cheif would not fit in well with the COG, unless Bleszinski had either origionally planned for the redundancy of putting a suit into another suit, or just letting Cheif keep his regular armor. That would be the extent they could do. Anything showing any part of Cheif's skin would cause an uproar in the Halo community, mostly in the form of claiming that since 343 hasn't decided what the Cheif looks like under the armor, Bleszinski shouldn't either.

Your protests have been refuted! NO SOUP FOR YOU!
A quick google search is all it would have taken to discover that Frostmoune is a magical sword from Warcraft. Somehow, both Warcraft and X-men remain popular and beloved to this day. Go figure! You also didn't address the Dissidia point. Ignoring it due to a lack of refutation, perhaps?
And while I certainly agree with your point that MC would prolly not fit within' Gears of War's multiplayer, I do think you're being both extreme and fantardish (your name and avatar imply a heavy devotion to Halo) in claiming that the franchises would be destroyed and people everywhere would be betrayed and crushed by the simple inclusion of Master Chief as a Gears of War easter egg. As I mentioned in my first post, He would likely only be included in the game as a multiplayer skin tops, and nobody would need to worry about their storylines being ruined. Ciffy is a bit of a kid at times, but he's not a complete idiot. He does handle of the Xbox 360's biggest franchises, after all.

Those posts about the lambet and flood being related earlier in the thread cracked me up.

It's a shame, I think he's a pretty cool guy but Gears is a clunky heap of crap.

This kind of cross-franchise joke would be pretty cool though. Like when Snake was in SSBB.

Id rather Gears be contained in itself. They already tainted Lost Planet 2, and almost tainted Mortal Kombat (supposedly), dont need more.

And then laugh.

Congratulations.

OT: I can see why they didn't like the idea. I woulda loved it, though. Oh well.

Halo is played around the world by tons of children, you can't just have a child-role model get all torn up.
Huh. I could've sworn it was an M-rated game. Silly me, thinking parents pay attention.

If you could kill Chief in a Gears game, you'd likely get a sales bump from people who just wanted to kill Chief. A very small bump in the "people with too much disposable income and a vast hatred for Halo but not Gears" demographic, but still. I doubt it would hurt sales in any other demographic.

They sure die a lot for a group of soldiers that never die, though... Very strange indeed. :p

Obviously, using internet levels of conspiracy theory's, Microsoft is going to dumb down halo so it gets a 12 rating by removing blood! :O
they pretty much did that.
go back to halo 1 and bash at a corpse for a bit. the room will be blue after a good minute, in halo reach however; not so much.

:D good, we can start the scarring XD

but this, would have been cool, least enough so to have me tracking down a vid of it at some point, not gonna get a 360 for that :p, still ...

isn't Master Chief genetically engineered?
ya know
like THESE guys?

and the two from gears just normal doods with guns? -.- yeah, the gears doods would be pretty much boned in that match up
Actually, not exactly like those guys.

It's pretty easy to find the 'specs' for both Spartan and Adeptus Astartes online, and it's also pretty easy to put them side by side and realize just how monstrously overpowered the 40K Space Marines are. Spartan are probably what Space Marine started as thousands of years before the 40k timeline tho.
