So... Would you argue that having Link, Spawn, and Yoda/Darth Vader in Soul Caliber destroyed all of their franchises? Did Dissidia invalidate every Final Fantasy game it drew characters from? I guess by your logic, Super Smash Bros should have shut down Nintendo by now. That time when Frostmourne popped up in a Wolverine game was nice. And you know what? Having Kratos in the new MK is pretty gorram cool. And this is from a gamer who highly values story in games, to the point where I will stop playing a game with excellent features and mechanics if the story doesn't motivate me to use them.
Having Master Chief appear in Gears, most likely as an unlockable multiplayer skin, might I add, would be fun! I don't think his character and universal context fit with the Gears of War "cut everything to pieces" style of gameplay, I think he would add some color and personality to a franchise that I, personally, am getting a little bored with.
Being blunt, if you thought Cliffy here wanted to work Halo into Gears of War's story, then you are being a bit of an idiot. That would be absurd, and no developer would ever think to do that. But to have him in the game as an aforementioned multiplayer skin, or maybe to find his helmet laying around with a bullet hole through it as an easter egg? That'd be pretty cool.
First of all, regarding Soul Caliber and MK, as I said in my last post, games that have no real storyline and are just beat'em up fighting games (Like SC and MK), really can't mess up the storylines of other games. Second, with Smash Bros., it is primarily a multiplayer game like SC and MK, although it DOES have a storyline in it (that must've taken less than an hour to create), and is really just a tolken gesture to Nintendo fanboys who would love nothing more than to see their favorite nintendo characters working together, even if it woul make less sense than combustable lemons. On your point with Frostmorne... I have no idea who he is, so this is just assumption that he's a comic book character like Wolverine and the X-Men are, but usually comic companies like Marvel and D.C. construct their comics so they could easily fit together if they needed to, for example, even though we all know that Gotham and Metropolis are really the same city, since they're different in the comics, they can be fit together that way.
Whilst I am not opposed to having characters from different franchises as unlockable multiplayer skins (multiplayer, as I said, has no storyline), adding a character, even without the idioligy of that character's game, into another game, can ruin it for everyone. Also, assomeone else mentioned, Cheif would not fit in well with the COG, unless Bleszinski had either origionally planned for the redundancy of putting a suit into another suit, or just letting Cheif keep his regular armor. That would be the extent they could do. Anything showing any part of Cheif's skin would cause an uproar in the Halo community, mostly in the form of claiming that since 343 hasn't decided what the Cheif looks like under the armor, Bleszinski shouldn't either.
Your protests have been refuted! NO SOUP FOR YOU!
