Funny coincidence, my World of Warcraft account was compromised by a keylogger yesterday.......wait, that's not funny, it's devastating.

Especially since it means they might have access to my Escapist, my Ebay, and (shit shit shit shit) my Paypal
Go go go change password!

But that's some serious banning there, 320.000 is 1/13th of Norway's inhabitants...

Who's up for a rousing verse of Cheaters Never Prosper? Good for Blizzard, I've been gaining a lot of respect for them as a company over the last year. If a third-million of your players are going to ignore a reasonably standard user agreement then they deserve the obvious consequences to their actions. Not only are a lot of these rules in place for the company's/game's protection, they also help to keep a player's computer safer; just like how Windows is a popular target for viruses and malware, so too is WoW.

Player fair, citizen, support your local modhammer. (If only I had a poster for this)

They're sweeping TOS violations. Using an external third-party application which directly interacts with the game is a TOS violation.

If they don't go after ALL of them, then they have no legal standing to go after ANY of them.
They don't need legal standing. They can do whatever the fuck they want with the game, which includes allowing for beneficial third-party applications to be run. Cutting off the arm because you've got a papercut on your finger isn't the solution.

Many of the bans were made as the result of tip-offs from "legitimate" Battle.net users and Bashiok encouraged everyone to continue informing on their neighbors. "If you come across a hack, find a site responsible for distributing hacks, or have a replay of a newly available hack, please report this to our hacks team at [email protected] or through our Hacks Report Form," he added.
Umm... just FYI a system like this was once implemented in East Germany.
Except that they aren't asking you to plant microphones around your school to listen for people who are considering a trial of AoC or WAR, they are asking you to report somebody after you lost a match to a cheater instead of whining on the forums that blizzard doesn't ban them.

:p i was more mentioning that informing on people for some sort of authority can also be done for good, and not just evil :p
You don't have to tell me. I'd dob my next door neighbor in as a Montenegrin War Criminal for a Pot noodle and a packet of Monster munch.
I have no clue what on earth monster munch is....
Then you have not lived.

OT: I agree with blizzard on this one. People need to learn to play nice.

Wow, Godwin's Law in under ten posts. Of course, the fact that government-run genocide is different from a company policing their own playground is irrelevant, right?

When I played WoW back in the day I was new to MMOs. I never really understood why Blizzard was so tough on gold sellers and botters. You could still buy gold if you wanted but you had to do it discreetly and secretly. After playing Aion for a month I understand why they are such nazis on the subject. If you let hackers, botters, gold sellers run free it ruins the game. Yes, people will still slip through the cracks but those people don't ruin the game. Even though Im not a huge wow fan I still have to salute blizzard for keeping their games clean.

.... only an idiot has their password the exact same for everything. double if it deals with money.

OT: 320,000 is a good number... too bad they let gold farmers run rampant through their games.
I never said I used the same password for everything.

The fact that the keylogger was on my computer and logged my WoW password when I typed it in, means it might have logged my Paypal password and my Ebay password too.

Think before you call other people idiots.
