I feel someone should mention that this is where Bond is learning. All of the others he was an established secret agent. I'd imagine that as he gets more experienced, the humor and over-the-top villains will work their way in. At least that's how I would write it, with a slow evolution into the Bond we all know and love.

If CS and QoS are any indication, it would seem that he developed his humor and womanizing ways to keep from getting too close to people after the events of the films, which could easily be played off in a script.

Well, I'm excited. I like that the Craig movies have a continual plot, even if I thought Quantum of Solace showed a bit too much of the old ridiculous campy action ("lets live in a house full of highly flammable hydrogen!"), which was fine for Timothy Dalton and Roger Moore, but following up on Casino Royale just felt weird.

And I'm double excited they got Sam Mendes for it.

Hmmmm.
Craig is a fantastic actor, but I just can't see him fitting into Bond.
And I will have two movies to back me up on this.

I was hoping the hiatus would bring a new Bond. I'm just not a fan of Craig as Bond.

and the as-yet-untitled film will be directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Jarhead, Revolutionary Road).

WHY!??! Why do they keep hiring directors who have never done action or adventure films before? That's the reason Quantum of Solace sucked so much, all those films are arty-farty types, they're not Bond calibre.

Why are they taking Bond in this direction?

I thought the thread was about the movie 2012 but then again it should have been italics.

Hmmm...maybe I can watch it this time on the big screen then!

They're still following on with the prequel sequels For fucks sake.
I am bitterly disappointed, my childhood boyish joy of Bond will never be felt again until we get back into the corny gadgets and foiling schemes for world domination.
well, we have Quantum now as a S.P.E.C.T.R.E. surrogate, so they're actually heating that way.

They're probably going to be a bunch of drug dealers and "REAL" bad guys, and Bond will probably solve all the problems with a super magic phone and his James Bourne like super powers instead of his wit and shear dumb luck. at least Die another day he acted like bond not Jason friggin Bourne(dont get me wrong though Jason Bourne is cool but James Bond is a completely different kind of cool). JAMES BOND IS NOT REALISTIC OR GRITTY. and the new movies aren't like the books.

Seriously? QoS and CR were written by the same guys that did (the absolutley abominable) Die Another Day? Did they somehow grow talent in the intervening years?
*Slaps*

NO!

Anything with Pierce Brosman In it is instantly awesome, how dare you disagree with this blasphemy!
Somehow you made his name even manlier

Somehow I think it more has to do with Paul Haggis [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0353673/] getting added on for CR and QoS. Since he isn't along for the ride with 23, but John Logan is, then I have faith it will be just as good.

Happy Bond is back, not so much that it's still Craig. He was okay, but I much prefer the suave to the face-puncher.

I don't mind Craig as an actor in general, I just don't think he's the right fit for Bond.
I will give you one on this. There is an advantage in having your foes not taking you seriously if you have the Pierce Brosnan or Roger Moore appearance about you. But there is a certain satisfaction that when you see Daniel Craig coming, someone in the bad guy's team is going to crap his pants at first look.

And that will be awesome.

honestly, I kinda think that Bond movies sort of lost their, uh, James Bond-ness?
I couldn't have said it better myself. I miss the insane plans for world domination, the impossible underwater/space stations and the awful oneliners.

The latest bond films are more realistic, but they're not Bond they're just bland.

Oh thank goodness. I was afraid when I first heard about possible bankruptcy. I really like Craig as Bond. I'm even at liberty to say that he is my favorite Bond. And I've watched them all in chronological order since I was a kid. My dad had all of the old movies on VHS.
