Isn't Logan supposed to be writing the Bioshock movie script? Let's hope that's done before he starts writing another Bond film. Still excited, though.

I have serious doubts it will be any good. Daniel Craig is just NOT Bond. He could have starred in The Expendables movie alongside Stallone, Statham and Lundgren, but not Bond. Bond is not your heavy-muscled-kill-em-all character, his main traits have always been his charisma, wit and stealth. The last 3 Bond movies look more like everyday action pictures. The example of this is that they are a great basis for FPS-games, while the true oldschool Bonds were more of stealth-quest nature with only occasional scenes of shootouts and chases.

Seriously? QoS and CR were written by the same guys that did (the absolutley abominable) Die Another Day? Did they somehow grow talent in the intervening years?

Hey, DAD had some good moments. Remeber Bond busting his way off the boat? That was suave as hell.

Y'know who would make a great James Bond?
Clive Owen
YES, A THOUSAND TIMES
Also, Casino Royale = amazing.
Quantum? Rubbish.
Next one? Good I hope.

Ugh...this guy is awful. He has no charisma. He's the same kind of actor as Keanu Reeves.
Ok, that's taking it too far. How dare you compare my favourite film character (out of my favourite film seies) to...HIM!

Also:
1) Daniel Craig is a good Bond. Sure he could crack a smile now or then, but being cheesy and camp just wonuldn't work nowadays. He's a great actor and has plenty of charisma, at least in the Bond films. End of story.
2) Die Another Day wasn't perfect. It did have too many special effects, but it was better than your typical average action film. Also Gustav Graves was epic.
3) Quantum of Solace was a good film! It was never going to live up to the excellent reviews Casino Royale got. The plot was complicated, and the villian was too much like Tony Blair but it was a great movie and it had the same great action set-peices that have come to be expected from the series (I'm thinking the dog-fight and the hotel explosion)
4) Also, i saw someone mention that there hasn't been any good villians. Allthe old James Bond villians had certain traits. Jaws = Metal Teeth. Max Zorin = Super Intelligent thanks to scientific experiments. Oddjob = Bowler Hat. But the new villias re like this too. Le Chiffre bleeds from his eyes, Zao from Die Another Day has diamonds in his face. Ok, maybe Dominic Greene could have been a bit quirkier.
End of Rant

Sorry 'bout the rant. I'm a serious James Bond fanboy :)

Sam Mendes is definitely an interesting choice, hopefully he'll be able to bring out the old Bond we all know and love. Alternatively, hopefully we'll get something a bit better than QoS. That was so amazingly average I don't even remember the plot.

I didn't like Casino Royale or Quantum of Solace, so I'm not particularly happy they're making another one.

I'd really rather they just renamed the main character to "Not James Bond". Then I would watch the movies with lesser reasons to nipick.

Maybe they have talent but they were the wrong kind of writers? Some things that are shit factories have good staff doing the wrong jobs (Batman: The Brave and the Bold springs to mind).

Off topic but what exactly is wrong with Brave and the Bold?
And my reply is; what is right with it? It's like they took Batman and said, "You know what this needs? To be like shitty, psuedo-anime. That'll get the kids to watch!" The dialogue is awful, the voice acting is worse. The only saving grace is, in a scant few (I haven never watched a whole season), I have seen some interesting ideas. Like the parallel dimension where all heroes were villains and vice versa. Owl Man was retarded but the inclusion of the Red Hood was pretty cool.

Well you can't exactly say Bond has been consistant over the years. There is the whole idea that there is no "James Bond" it's just the codename that is taken up by the next guy after the previous 007 retires or dies.

God please, please, PLEASE make it a James Bond film this time. QoS was all over the place and just dull. I liked CR so it was a real jar for me. I always liked Craig as he actually seems to be an upper class, emotionless machine, like what Bonds suppose to be. QoS just tried to cram emotion into a character it really doesnt belong in, I know hes human but hes also been trained to handle any situation with his job in mind first. I mean Craig was still fairly cold in the film but the new situations were different from the norm so felt really weird. Heres hoping we get the witty, charming yet cold Bond back.

Nah... I can't say I see it. Not that I don't think Clive Owen is awesome, but he's not really suave. I mean, it's not like he's got chiselled features and I can't see a tux suiting him at all.

OT:

Yay? Better be as good as Casino Royale was. QoS was pretty shit.

Everyone gets so worked up about Craig not being the 'real bond'. Seriously, quit with the nostalgia and judge the films on their own merits. If you want the traditional bond of the 60's, watch a 60's bond movie. 2011 just isn't the time of volcano bases, playboy women and hairy chested swingers.

I hope it's good, Quantum of Solace was horrible. Which was so disappointing because of how good Casino Royale was.

"You Only Live Twice reveals Bond is the son of a Scottish father, Andrew Bond, of Glencoe, and a Swiss mother, Monique Delacroix, of the Canton de Vaud."

You get nothing, you lose, good day sir, although to give you credit it is the only way I think they could potentially explain all this after that pointless and chronological screw up that was mentioning September 11th in Casino Royale...

I must say however as a long time Bond fan that I'm happy a lot of people can see through the new films for the abominations they are; I literally cried throughout the entire film by how god awful it was and how it destroyed what little was left of the franchise remaining from Casino Royale, even if it was the best of all the Casino Royale adaptations so far

So you're going to tell me that an intelligence agency can't fabricate a history? The kind of thing a secret agent needs. A false history that obfuscates the true facts about the agent making it harder to attack him personally.

What I liked about Casino Royal was that it was more like the book in which he really didn't have any gadgets the entire time. Bond's gadgets (and a lot of his charm) didn't come until later in the series and since the new movies are set earlier in his career, it makes sense that both have been down played. Expect more toys and charm as it progresses.

Anything with Brosnan named "Goldeneye" "The Matador" or "Remmington Steele", you mean. DAD was a fucking trainwreck - and eaily the worst film with the bond name attached.

(and that's the last I'll say on the subject so as not to totally derail the comment thread.)

-m
While totally offtopic, I would like to say "The Matador" was an AWESOME film. I've watched it several times.

OT; Meh. I'm not into Daniel Craig. I've always been the person that thinks bond should be sauve and cunning. I don't think he should run around and punch stuff like he's on a roid rage.
I don't mind Bond being blonde though.
