Bewbies!!!!!!!!

Sorry, just had to get that out of my system. Ahem, anyways...

I.......seriously have no idea what they're going for. Games about breasts that don't focus on breasts. I'd imagine there's people out there who would say that a game involving self breast exams and/or breast feeding would be sexualized. I'm genuinely interested in seeing what comes out of this because at the moment all I'm getting is a "DOES NOT COMPUTE" error in my brain. xP

Oh come on, man. That's the type of pun I'd expect from DVS BSTrD. Seriously, that's more facepalm worthy than the typo-pun that lacktheknack pointed out.

Hmmm...I can understand trying to desexualise breasts, but I don't see this working.

Hell, look at the predictable comments so far.

Anyway, making a game about breasts...nah. I don't see that working.

Sounds kinda stupid
I guess they could make a game with big boobed women walking around hunched, while complaining about their massive boobs causing back pain.

People get freaked out when they see women breastfeeding. That is about as nonsexual use of breasts as possible. So, good luck coming up with anything about breasts that is not going freak out people.

I'm not sure I'm understanding the core concept of this get together thing. Is it like, umm, trying to find ways to sexualize characters without having them wear skimpy outfits? What does that accomplish? My head hurts now, I think I'll go lay down a minute.

I dunno, I think I understand the concept. Trying to find a way to talk about or feature boobs in video games that aren't sexualized; but I'm not sure the creator understands the depths people will go to in order to find a way to masturbate to something.

This is awesome and I approve.

For those who seem confused, I will expand on some of the ideas mentioned above. A boob-centric but non-male gaze aspect to a game could be as follows:

In a Fantasy style game, the female playable character goes to get new armor. When you mouse over (or whatever) the armor to "try it on" ie, compare stats, the store clerk makes a one-off comment about needing to find a set that will comfortably fit the player character's chest.

Later, after finding a piece of loot in a dungeon and equipping it, the player character says (as an aside while being controlled in gameplay) that she'll need to get this armor adjusted in town because it's squeezing her chest uncomfortably.

That is exactly TWO lines of dialogue that would accomplish this goal. How? By putting the player in the situation of HAVING boobs rather than looking at them. The player's character has to purchase armor that will fit her cup size - that's not something most male gamers have thought about before, at least not in a practical fashion. It helps the male player feel empathy for the female character as a person rather than a sexual object for them to oogle.

It's a neat idea.

As for the Superhero made entirely out of breasts... all I can think of is that old D&D video about a group of adventurers encountering "a Dragon.. made entirely out of boobs! Scalding Milk Attack!"

Ahh, that explains it nicely. Thanks! I too would like a game that has some mechanics like this. Because it's awfully convieniant when playing a game like Skyrim that you as a female character can just pull some armor off of a dead male bandit and then just pop it on without thinking about it, especially if's plate armor. This is a concept that could be expanded further down the line as well. Like an orc trying on plate armor that was made for a bosmer height and weight, it wouldn't fit just right and maybe some penalty to agility or protection stats would be nice until the armor is refitted in town. Or am I just overthinking it? Thanks again though, that's a great idea. I'm taking credit for it!

Surgeon Simulator 2013 Breast Lump edition?
The images conjured in my mind when I read this nearly sent me rolling onto the floor with laughter. I can't imagine how anyone could take it seriously after the shenanigans I have seen in Surgeon Simulator.

That being said, if they could do it tastefully, then I can't imagine why it wouldn't be a good idea.

I'm never one to tell people not to make things in the name of diversity (it's way better than trying to take things away!), but there's a couple of reasons why I think this might not do what the originators intend it to do:

1. We (guys with an interest in women) usually already do think about all those other aspects of having breasts, if we spend any time playing games. Because it's a slightly more introspective person who would do that kind of thing, and therefore, we tend to at least have a curiosity what it's like to live on the other side. There's quite a lot in- of all things- 2D pornography (doujin, stuff like that) that tends to deal with these aspects of life as the 'story' points in between all the exciting parts. And,

2. Though it may change the perspective from which we think about them (not likely due to the above), it's not going to change the context. You could Weird Science me into a female body for a week, and after I gained all that perspective and you zapped me back into my brain that's affected by all my male hormones and junk... I'm still going to be drawn toward them exactly the same. It might change my approach to women iRL if I was dumb to begin with, but it won't change my attitudes toward fictional women.

So I guess maybe I'm not sure what the aim really is?

But the whole point of games is experiencing fantasy to varying degrees and escape from reality. A lot of what she suggests is making a docu-game or something that inserts too much reality, something that would be a niche title.

What sort of stories or games are these certain people asking for that aren't "male-centric power fantasies"?

Naw, that sounds like fun. And you could work it the other direction as well - it would be funny to see a male warrior temporarily stuck wearing plate armor with boob cups (until he could take it to a town and have it converted at a forge).

The conversion aspect would be important so that you wouldn't have a character unable to use a cool item due to wrong size penalties. It just takes a quick "adjustment" at a forge and you can set it to what you want/need.

Replace the worlds supply of health potions with breast milk? you could make an entire world where the religion itself is replaced with a worship of the regenerative properties of breast milk? so instead of a game revolving around breasts it revolves around the life giving properties.

also.. Icecream :p

So what IS the boob-centered opposite of Tomb Raider?

The characters jabber about boobs non-stop, but they wear baggy clothing?
I know! What ARE we supposed to make of that?

I looked at the picture. I tried imagining what the opposite of that would look like.

Lara, with tiny breasts? Nah.

Lara as a man, with huge breasts? No way. [small]Also, ugh. Bad brain. BAD![/small]

Maybe a geeky fanboy, with an "I Love Breasts" T-shirt? Wait! I got it!

Lara. With small breasts - and a T-shirt with a picture of big breasts on it! Hey, OP! Am I on to anything yet?

I could see a fantasy RPG where you play a female character, and can either choose to wear practical armor or a chainmail bikini.
You die in one hit if you're not wearing practical armor.
Less about breast objectification, and just general objectification, but I still think it's an amusing concept.

I don't think that would work... or possibly it'd send an inaccurate message. This sets up an interesting mechanic, but effectively punishes players for being the "wrong gender" by forcing them to pay/waste time to have their gear "adjusted" in order to have maximum effectiveness... (as a side note, would that then give transgendered characters.. you all know that's the next logical step in a discussion about gender politics... a significant advantage or an even greater disadvantage be being either "always right" or "always wrong" gender?). Maybe if the game only had female characters/protagonist (which draws its own problems, see the Queen's Scarlet Blade MMO), or if all armor needs to be "fitted" before it can be worn/effective (see Venetica... [shudder]), then in what way would that differentiate male and female characters in a meaningful way as per the challenge)? surely that's just adding an extra, wasteful step in loot acquisition, like buying ID stuff in Diablo 1&2 (thus creating a grindy slog for players as opposed to the intended commentary on fitting clothes, boobs, and armor in the same general space... again, just like Venetica). Or is fluff dialogue all that is needed to complete the statement?

How does one balance making characters' mechanics unique based on physical characteristics, but equally effective in game terms without isolating one or the other or sacrificing "fun" from the game to make the statement?
It is a puzzlement... but I think there's a good start here.

Also, you haven't seen me play. I'm like *rips out a lung, throws it on the ground*"He won't need that anymore."

It feels like they are trying to bring our torment into the game. Having large breasts on a small frame causes many difficulties that many do not realize. Women with natural large breasts usually had them grow at an early age and it was extremely painful so they have boobs before everyone else does and get teased by other kids giving you a complex about them. The dreaded " bra fittings" when they have nothing in the store that fits and you have to special order them. I am a 34 DD and STILL can't find anything in the stores half the damn time and have to have them ordered. When you are top heavy, swimsuits don't fit, you have to mix and match bikini tops and have leotards made for you. You have to tape them down for gymnastics and that is extremely painful as well. You have breast tenderness and they become overly sensitive when you have your menstrual cycle and you don't want anyone looking at them little lone touching them.
They get in the way when you try to do anything, affect your swing when playing baseball, affect how you can even swing a hammer or hold a gaming controller or wear a seat belt. You have to " work around them" and they cause painful strain on your neck, shoulders, and back. Clothes don't fit right and it makes shopping horrible. You are always thinking " will this fit my boobs?" You have assholes staring at them instead of making eye contact when you are talking to them, people looking at them instead of listening to what you are saying when giving presentations, guys making obnoxious comments when you walk by, and guys that are only interested in talking to you because they want to see your cans. That is the reality of being built like Barbie, and are they actually suggesting bringing this into our games?! Why would I want that brought into my games? It is awful in reality, so it is nice to not have to worry about all of that when I am playing a game. It feels like a vacation. LOL

EDIT: They want a game that focuses on it from the female perspective? How about a game where you are sitting in class and the guy behind you keeps saying " boobies, boobies, boobies" in a really annoying voice and then you build up " rage" until you just get up and beat the crap out of him? There. They have a game. LOL

EDIT2: Not to mention the way OTHER females treat you when you are top heavy, talking behind your back, breast surgery accusations, telling you it is " unnatural", making up crap about you and behaving overall caddy in general. People I don't think realize how awful it is having a " nice rack". That isn't nice at all. They make you feel like an outcast due to genetics. It just brings pain, misery and harassment. How is that fun? I still don't see why they want to bring that to games. I think I am done ranting for now. Maybe... ANYHOW I think this is a stupid idea.
