To be honest, people shouldn't even be able to have guns in their homes. They weren't designed for leisure, they were designed for death. This wouldn't have happened in Britain...i'm sure you can see why. Guns. Are. BAD.

As for the 9 year old...I hope he's got a sniper-rifle in heaven...

TARDCHECKED.

Thank you Darrious Finley for removing yourself from the Gene Pool.
I love how people say that. I mean, a child just got killed, no one seems to be mourning the loss of a FUCKING 9 YEAR OLD CHILD!! Everyone asking who's to blame, and some people are even praising the fact that the kid is dead.

Am I the only one that thinks that's just a bit sick?
And what about his brother? Even if it was an accident, he will live the rest of his life as a murderer. Thw whole thing is miserable and proves we should take in consideration better public gun safety. I mean, I love Halo, but I am repulsed by even the sight of guns. Sure, my reaction is a bit extreme, but for kids that age, a sense of absolute taboo- at least against using guns without permission. And where were the parents? They seem a bit too young to be left alone like that.
And really, kids can get into arguments about anything. They could be getting into arguments over the fruit-harvesting game in Kirby 64. Its just the spark of the argument. Anyone with a sibling should know that personally.
All in all, this is a miserable accident.

Also, this is why I hate PVP action. I hated tension between me and my sister, so we'd play Halo in co-op multiplayer instead.

Usually that got me punched more for picking up the ammo when HE NEEDED IT.

Until I started playing dirty.

No, you're not. I was going to say something similar myself.

I doubt anyone here can say they didn't do some "retarded" and potentially dangerous things when they were 9.

Well, that's another thing I learned. If she wanted the shotgun, I let her have it. If she wanted the sniper rifle, she can have that, too. The rapport I built with her resulted in her both offering the items to me, but also her getting a little bored and trying new, exciting things with 'em.

[Edit]The problem here is not the video game. The problem is that the younger brother is a very sore loser, and can't properly manage his anger. They could have been fighting over something else, and it's possible that the outcome would be similar.

The 9 year old kid who died is the one who went to get the shotgun.
Whoops. Thank you, I misread the article.

I blame the media for not getting their priorities straight, the kid for losing his temper, and the world for not getting off the case of videogames!

seriously, isolated incidents such as these doesn't mean we should ban the xbox's, outlaw halo, and banish battlefront. For gods sake...

people never killed each other with guns (accidently or otherwise) before video games. it must be become the fault of the video game. reminds me of an arguement where people said that mario getting more than one "life" in a game would empower kids to think they'd come back again if they would die.

On a sidenote, I'm sure a few journalists will say the kid was killed because he was playing a violent videogame, but what if the videogame arguments/deaths are over games like Mariokart?
"STOP USING THE BLUE SHELLS! *bang*"
But seriously.

How can you guys honestly think that this was the father's or child's fault? Children are at an impressionable age, and watching so much violent TV and playing so many violent video games can turn them into murderers.
Video games have completely desensitized this kid and made him think that killing his brother was okay, that is awful. We should ban video games entirely so that this never happens.
Ever since that needlessly violent "Pong" game came out, the murder rate in America has tripled, do you not see the connection here?

You were lucky, mine would have wanted both, and all the ammo/health and for me to take the lead but get the lowest score.
Whole barrel of fun.

And if there'd been a gun in my house, I would have been shot at at least once.

I had an arrow shot at me in my house once. That was about as bad as it got.

Of course, at least you had someone to play games with. I had a brother that thought that by even picking up a game controller, he'd lose his soul.

Not sure which is worse. Co-op Games, with physical violence, or no co-op games at all.

I think another thing is that our mother would give us both Hell if we fought.
"When I die, she's going to be all you have left, and everything you do to her will be between you forever," is seared into my mind, but its pretty safe to say that we get along pretty well...
Now I really feel bad for the poor boy...

Whatever happened to journalistic integrity?
You're just asking this question know?

Being European and British I have noticed that things like this rarely happen here (England) and I get into arguments with my older brother about video games but the most he does is hit me in the balls. And why do reports automatically assume that it is the fault of a video game, my theory is because they're old and don't understand them, and correct me if I'm wrong but when say Rap music was new did they assume it was the fault off rap music (I'm probably wrong but if I'm right just wanted to put that out there)
