Apparently the new generation needs to grow a pair. Jesus. If you dont' want to be with someone then man up (or girl up) and just tell them. Cowards.

When I broke up with my previous girlfriend I didn't use Facebook, so I had to do it the old way- man up and say it face to face.

If I end up being the one formally calling off my current relationship I will do it face to face before changing my relationship status.

OK, aside from all the other problems, doesn't this kind of...make it EXTREMELY public?

I'd think very few would enjoy all the extra attention.

well... I'm not sure if I'd rather she break up with me that way or make out with me just hours before and then snuggle with me for two hours before dropping the bomb.

Both were pretty shitty.

I'd prefer I dump 4 u .com at least I get a youtube vid for my friends to laugh at out of it, maybe I'd buy a shirt or something... : D

How am I, as a serious... ish... gamer considered a loser and social reject because I meet people online and have fun and yet these people who do everything through facebook are socially acceptable? I just can't fathom it.

OT: Yeah, I had a friend who had this happen once. Quick piece of advice. If you're going to be a massive douche when you break up with someone, try and make sure they're not psychotic before you do so. I swear, my friend nearly killed the guy afterwards. I had to calm her down.

You're playing by their rules so why are you confused?

Meh it doesnt suprise me. If you aren't willing to break up with someone properly then you should've gotten into the relationship in the first place.

I just refuse to list relationship statuses on Facebook. I dislike the pseudo-official quality that they have, anyone that should know your relationship status shouldn't have to find out through Facebook. I guess its ok when you are together and its going fine, but when things start to go bad, it doesn't really work ("It's complicated" just seems like an awkward way to summarise the immense number of possible situations that you could be in). Oh yea, and it allows for things like this to happen.
Although I use Facebook, considering that only 10% of communication is in the actual words you say (a statistic which I am weary of, but does make a good point nevertheless), I dislike using it for anything other than organising things. Call me old fashioned, but you need to see someone, how they look, act and interact to really know someone. Meaningful relationships (social or romantic) cannot be acheived primarily or entirely through the internet. I even think that if you are going out with someone in a proper way, having it also on Facebook sortof lowers the value of it. I find it worrying that I can change the "official" status of a relationship as easily as clicking a few buttons.

I know its sortof rich to say this on a webforum, but I'll be honest, even if I was a regular member, this would be the last place I would like to form any meaningful relationship or ask for advice on any serious personal problems.

Wow, if I had to worry I'd be broken up via facebook, odds are she wasn't that important to me anyway.
Agree 100%, people have no guts if they use the facebook status way :S

For those vapid and selfish.
No sense of respect.
lol +1 for random haiku :)

I JUST created a facebook account myself last week about 47 years after everyone else. Something like this already wouldn't surprise me.

I'm sorry but anyone who breaks up with me via facebook isn't even worth my time of figuring out why......And isn't even considered a man at that point cause if you can't do it to my face.....or at least via phone call(which is still pretty lame) then yeah.......your man card gets revoked cause that's stuff girls do
