Really? This is getting ridiculous.
A month ago "Games caused the Norway terrorist attack!"
Now "Games caused the London riot!"

I'm actually looking forward to what games are blamed for next
You can find the answer in my soon-to-be-released article, "HOW VIOLENT VIDEOGAMES CAUSED THE GREAT FIRE OF LONDON". Topical, I think!

This might be sensationalism due to the Oslo shooter's motivation being nebulously connected to video games.
Oslo bombing. The shooting happened on Utoya. And the reason why the media is blaming everybody and everything for that guy's crimes is because he wrote a 1500 page book basically about name-dropping as many things as possible and shoehorning them into his anti-communism master plan.

Download the .pdf somewhere, he spends an entire chapter on listing every single movie/book/game with russians/soviets/communists as the bad guys as "inspiration".

Drive a helicopter to the top of a building while dressed like an old woman
Throw yourself into a pool
That's how rioters are born

Sigh. Another case of video games and the people who play them being demonized by the press. I swear, isn't there ONE person working at these media outlets who has EVER played a video game? I played Mario as a child, you don't see me jumping on mushrooms and turtles whenever I see them. In summary: The media sucks, videos games only influence already twisted individuals who would have gotten inspiration from somewhere else if NOT the games.

Where the hell is V when you need him?

Can't say I didn't see this coming.
Unfortunately, the gaming industry is the hottest thing since the big Hollywood blowout of the 80's and 90's. And we all know what happens to famous things...

"children as young as ten, inspired by video game, among the looters."

Inspired by GTA London or GTA? I'll argue both, 10 year olds would not remember GTA London and the GTA series does not feature riots or looting. I think they may have been inspired by the possibility of free goods, that seems more logical.

I remember state of emergency it was awesome.

As for the riots I think it's a mix of political unrest, (telling hundreds of people they will become homeless due to benefit cuts has to have had some effect) and chavs who have realised if the gang together they can rob anything they want.

Its pretty disgraceful however you look at it.

I'm a labour supporter but it seems to me there is always civil unrest when the tories are in power. They don't seem to have a clue of how bad things are for the lower working class in Britain. My ex was from a council estate and it was massively different even from how I live and I'm not wealthy by any means. This is up north where things are muted by a smaller community so I can't really imagine what it must be like in the big cities. It's just a powder keg of unemployed young people with nothing to do. I'm not really surprised it's gone up in David Cameron's face.

Do you suppose they'll be raging about mass effect in 5 years?
Only if chavs start dry humping blue aliens in Piccadilly.
Well the closest they'll get is that entertaining group of chaps in Las Vegas. Then again, most chavs couldn't afford to go to America.

OT: Well in all seriousness, who didn't see this coming? But sure, blame games for inspiring the ten year olds. It's not as if they might have had parents that encouraged this sort of thing. Because no, I'm sure all the rioters who happen to be parents took their children aside and said "now Timmy. ("Dad, my name's not Timmy. I'm not even a boy!") Don't interrupt, Timmy. Now, what you have to understand that what I'm going out and doing with this bat to shop windows, CCTV cameras and the occasional migrant worker is completely and utterly wrong. Really, never get involved in this sort of thing, it's sickening quite frankly."

I'm not even surprised by things like this any more. Words truly can't describe how stupid these people are.

People take British media seriously? I thought it was all an ironic joke - just another medium to convey our very dark, dry senses of humour.

I feel deceived!

If GTA has taught me anything, as soon as the riots reach 6 stars the army are getting involved.

God I wish the army would get involved IRL though.

Can anyone from England explain what a chav is? Is it an England only thing?

Basically this. Although the accent changes, words like init and bruv (brother) go across the board. Weapons like knives and vicious dogs are also usually carried around, as well as drugs.

God I hate my country sometimes.
