Do you think that maybe I use steam for its community features? Or perhaps because it has an offline feature? OR perhaps I would rather only have one game manager on my PC? You're not as clever as you think.
None of that changes the fact that Steam is DRM that phones home to ensure legitimacy. Also, yes I am.

The EADM has one of the worse DRM imho.

Its funny how they're constantly putting DA:O down, trying to prop up DA2. Laidlaw in interviews comes across as disliking DA:O, a bit insulting to fans of DA:O.

This is just a rushed PR stunt. DA2 sales have dropped dramatically and DA:O sales have picked up. Kinda funny, eh?

But, anybody who was going to buy the game would've bought it by now...
...And this deal is only for the PC...
I guess it's nice. Lots of complaints about the EA dl manager, but it could be a good way to stem the overbearing tides of both EA's and Bioware's recent PR brutalization.

Sounds a bit dickish to the console crowd though, don't you think? It's like how Bioware made the PS3 version of ME2 practically the GOTY edition. Then again, it was one of Bioware's representatives who said console gaming was the past, so I suppose Bioware always was PC 1st.

Meh, whatever. Despite the opinions on Bioware and EA (both good and bad), for the few who don't already have the game and are PC gamers who plan on buying DA2, then have a blast. Don't let anyone's opinions darkly color a good thing for you. Just make sure you are a PC gamer or that you're willing to play on your PC/have one that can run games. If so, have at it.

Already own it and wouldn't want a massive download anyway. Plus, I play on console. I am still very pleased to hear this. I certainly do feel like Bioware value their customers after this, for whatever promotional reasons that may have been lurking under the decision for the giveaway. Kudos Bioware. I jumped on board with the original Baldurs gate and don't intend to leave any time soon.

Dammit! I already have both.

" 'Thanks to gamers like you, Dragon Age 2 is off to a great start - breaking the one million mark in less than two weeks and faster than Dragon Age: Origins,' the company said." Yeah, that's because it's a better game. Menu style, gameplaye, everything is so much better in DA2 over DA:O, but don't get me wrong, I still love DA:O, DA2 has just proven itself worthy of more love and attention.

And as a side note, has anyone ever played Shepard or the Champion as a man? I've played both as women and have immensely enjoyed it.

I only hope that someday, some of you guys will look back and feel appropriately embarrassed about all this.

I was found this kinda cool at first.
A free copy of Mass Effect 2 when you purchase Dragon Age 2? I just got that recently!
Then I remembered I already have ME2.
Oh, yeah I've got like several copies of Mass Effect 2.
Then I noticed what system the free version would be for.
...for the Xbox! I can get a free PC version!
Only problem is my computer.
Will my laptop be able to run it? Ah what the fuck, it's free, might as well try.

It might be a ***** to download, I might have to run it on low settings, hell I might not even get it to play, but I might as well try. It is free after all.

How about if we have ME2, we can get DA2 for free? :D

Only fair for the people who already shelled out 60 bucks at one point...

I boggle at the naivety in this thread.

Regardless of how you feel about the game, this much is certain: they rushed DA2 badly. You can see signs of it everywhere, from the recycled environments to the abridged fetch quests. And if you don't believe your own eyes, trust the soundtrack's composer; he basically outted them for rushing to market. 14 months in development when the original game took five years? C'mon. You don't save that much time reusing a mediocre engine and a few assets.

So why did they push for such an insane timetable? Why compromise the quality of your product so blatantly? Was it for us? Did we need DA2 right this goddamn second? Of course not. They did it for money. That's it. They wanted to shorten the dev time and pocket the savings. Sure, the game suffered, and yeah, some folks would hate. But brand loyalty and intense marketing would generate enough sales to bridge the gap, right?

Now here they are giving away free copies of ME2 if you buy DA2, and people are gullible enough to defend this as benevolent behavior? Isn't this the company that just knowingly rushed a game to market, with clear negative side effects, in order to make more money off the lot of us? Why in the world would they do something so contrary to the character they just demonstrated not two months ago?

If you benefit from this promotion, great. More fun to you. If you loved DA2, fine. You were somehow well-served by their short shrifting. Me? I've got a crazy idea. Instead of so generously taking a bath on a game giveaway no one asked for, how about you go ahead and save that money so you have enough to properly finish your next sequel.

TLDR version: it's a promotion aimed at counteracting the immense (and deserved) dropoff in DA2 sales.
I'd like to point out that the publishers are often the ones who get to decide when the game comes out, not the developer.

In other words, just chalk another point on the "EA Scale of Evil."

Leave BioWare alone, they're still our good buddies!!! T_T

Goddammit, EA! My DVD-reader unit died on me last month, so I decided to get both Mass Effects through Steam because I wanted to replay them. And just a couple of weeks ago I bought Dragon Age 2.

GOD-FUCKING-DAMMIT.
So, give the code away to a friend?

The new deal is much better, too bad ME2 is so much better than DA2 in my honest opinion.

What about people who don't have friends? It's social discrimination!

Any-ways, a lot of people view this as a poor marketing scheme to either; a)boost DA2 sales (sales on the PC are very low) or b) marketing for ME3. Its how I view it, but I think its more to prop up flogging DA2 sales.

I've already got Mass Effect 2 on the 360, but hell I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. It's a shame that Kasumi, Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival won't transfer over on the PC version though. Seriously, if I already purchased it and it's on my Bioware account it should be available to me regardless of what platform I'm playing on.

EDIT: Is there a way to activate this on Steam or do I just have to stick with the EA down-loader?

Well why the hell are they doing it then?

'Cos they're lovely and super?.. Bullsh*t... they're trying to mitigate the worst publicity they've had in their entire 12(?) year span.

Please buy it, please buy it... we'll give you this..... even though there's a bloody good chance that you have it anyway.

It's all just runny nosed, corporate drivvel, you have to see this yourself surely?.. I mean.. issuing a congratulatory release about how great they are getting 1 mil sale (less the whacking great wad of pre-orders) in 3 WEEKS... Talk about sexing the truth up. If they'd really done as well as they want us all to think they'd done.. they'd be resting on their laurels raking in the adulation.... but it's CERTAINLY not gone that way. All this AND alienating a HUGE chunk of their formally rabid die hard fan base..... Bioware have BooBoo'd.. BIGTIME.

(btw.. my attitude here isn't aimed at you Susan, it's aimed squarely at Bioware's head..... if I was a bullet.*jeez*..)
By the love of Andraste, you are the reason we can't have nice things! Seriously, WHY ARE YOU SO ANGRY?

They're giving away a FREE game, even if you already bought DA2. Do the math, dude. If one million people already bought DA2, giving a free copy of ME2 to them is not a way to increase sales.

Is it a game most of their fanbase probably owns already? Yea. That said, my friends & I love them for this. I mostly play on my 360, but the free PC copy is fine by me. Name one other company besides Valve that has done anything near as awesome as this.

As for the "disaster," one million in three weeks is not a disaster. It's not approaching the stupid numbers of Call of Duty, but like 90% of all PR nightmares on the internet, it's caused by 0.00005% of the actual people playing the game, and any logical person will ignore it. Is DA2 as good as DA:O? I suppose that depends on your point of view. I suspect the PC diehards will say no, but it is nowhere near the tempestuous horror you make it out to be.

Take your happy pills and go be angry somewhere else. I'm terrified Bioware will read your insanity and never make a friendly gesture like this again.

Seriously blows my minds how a company giving away a FREE GAME to its customers can be met with anything other than adulation. Entitled ingrates.

Now get outta my swamp, you kids!!

It's kinda Pathetic that people that already bought Dragon Age 2 don't get it >.> Eat a dick BioWare and EA, and choke on it ^^
What are you talking about? I'm currently downloading it using the Black emporium card that came in my Signature edition that I got first day.

It isn't a new card put into the next shipment (there'd be no telling if you were getting the right on), it's already in there.
I got no extra dlc code whatsoever when I bought my Dragon Age 2 game (new, not used)
Just checking, did you pre-order and get the Signiture Edition, or did you just buy a new regular edition.

Because the Signature Edition came with a leaflet/paper that had three codes on it. One for the DLC The Exiled Prince, the second is for the Black Emporium and the Mabari War-hound, the third is for the other Signature Edition stuff to put on your computer(Game music and such).

Now I don't know what regular copies come with, it is possible there is some kind of code in the regular copy boxes. If not, then my thinking is that only people that pre-ordered and people that buy a newly shipped copy that has a new code insert will get this deal. I don't know.

All I know is that I used my DLC codes for my 360 DA2: Signature Edition, and got an e-mail not too long ago that I have until the 30th to get my free copy of Mass Effect 2 on my PC.

I'm gonna be the guy and say:
They really needed to bundle it with ME2 to compensate for DA2's shittyness?

There, I said it.
