why do people believe the media, when they say that there is a connection between violent video games and youth crime. It's just ridiculous! In my opinion it is all about the parenting, if the parents had raised their kids correctly in the first place, then no crime would be committed! Simple as that.

less gore and no flying bodyparts are pretty standart stuff around here, though the thing about sympathy for the devil is a bit weird.

The song itself is freely available around here, so cutting it doesn't make a lot of sense. It may be something about the context the song is used, but copyright issues seem more likely.

At this point I could give a shit about the absence of pixellated blood, but the complete removal of "Sympathy For the Devil"? What's the German government got against good tunes?

Does Germany count as the EU as a whole now?
Just wondered that myself.

On topic: Poor Germans, don't worry... every other country will sell you it for a fair price.
Or so we say.

Almost every 16+ game is censored in Germany anyway (which is complete and utter BS in my opinion).

So wait, why would Nazis be in this game?
Zombies?
Did they say the Zombies would still be Nazis even though it takes place decades later? All Nazi corpses would be bones by then.
Nah, they won't be Nazi zombies, that would mess with the game too much. It's just a zombie mode as far as I understand. I don't think people could cope with the story bending to both have zombies and Nazis in it.

Plus, where the hell are the Nazis in this game? I thought it was set in the cold war?
The USSR flag and other communist imagery is also banned there. And you can't really made a cold war game without the soviets.

In Germany we've got something called "Entnazifizierung" which means rougly translated to rid the country of Nazi-Symbols like the SS-Rune or Swastikas or anything similar. Since videogames are not, yet, considered art its a crime to "play" with Nazi-Symbols or to distriubte these games.
On the gore; yes our government thinks violent videogames, esp. extreme gore like ragdoll physics(bodies which can be moved by shooting at them) or limbs getting ripped apart, are not supposed to be played even by adults so they refuse to give permission to advertise them publicly - unless the publisher makes a few changes.

It's the context in which the song is used. The sequenz is a rail shooter scene in which the player is using a mounted machine gun on a boat to shoot huts and enemys on the other river side. With this song in the background playing that "could" feel to much like a fun sequence instead of a serious war battle. At least thats my only explaination besides copyright issues.

Unsurprising really. It's easy to say there's never a good reason for censorship (attitudes like that are why America has idiots waving signs saying "God hates fags" completely unpunished) but I can totally understand why people are concerned about graphic violence in video games. Plus the Germans might be a bit more concerned than others given their recent history, especially the ones still alive from that time.

Wonderful, I'm moving to Germany in two years time. Looks like I'll be doing a lot of importing if they keep this up. The world seriously needs to stop panicking about the effects of video game content on their children.

Wow, my Bullshit-O-Meter's going off the scale here! I should have known that with a thread about Germany, there would come a woefully misinformed idiot with a post filled with conspiracy theories.

Not all that bad, censorship-wise. I'm fine with them toning down the gore. I don't normally pick games up for limb loss and gore.

The Stones being cut is pretty weird, though. The hell, Germany?

I think it's good that they censored it. Gratuitous blood is unneccesary. I used to be the kind of person that was really upset about having to shoot 'robots' in some games, but then I grew up. I would protest if I saw the violence have any form of artistic merit, but in an FPS developed for multiplayer, who are we kidding? It's the most dumbed down view of conflict. 2 sides, kill each other.

What I won't swallow however is that they cut the Stones song. What the fuck?

On one hand they go through great lengths to try and convince you they are ashamed of the whole Nazi thing. On the other hand the method they choose to demonstrate this point with is the censorship of foreign products, including things that they somehow feel are "anti-constitutional symbols" which smacks of the kind of hyper-patriotism they claim to be over...
I don't know why you keep coming back to the whole censorship of "foreign" products, like they're an alien thing or whatnot. It doesn't matter where it's from. Germany has strict guidelines about what is censored, be it local or otherwise.

I think you got the whole 'anti-constitutional' bit overdramaticised. All it means is that any Nazi sysmbol is removed. It's against the constitution to show the symbols, no matter in what context. Even Skate 2 had censorship because one of the T-shirt brand used an old S-rune (like the one found in the SS symbol). It sounds ridiculous but it really is that strict.

It's against the law.

As for hyper-patriotism: Germany is almost unparalleled in that regard. I've been to a lot of countries and lived in a few counrties and Germany isn't patriotic in the slightest. It's getting slightly more patriotic now (sort of a revcolution that was caused by our football team doing well in tournaments) and that's making me sick.

Don't worry, a foreign VPN or amazon.co.uk will save you :)

On the other hand, if you don't like buying online, yes, you're screwed.

This makes an excellent point, where does the German government get off thinking it can treat its citizens like a bunch of children. The 'state knows best' censorship in Germany is insane. It's always awkward for me to talk about German politics, cause I love their Parliamentary system, but what they do with it is just ridicious sometimes.

They took out a song because it contains references to WWII? What about Sabaton? Fairly sure they aren't censored over in Deustchland.

Come to think of it, what about history textbooks?
