Call of Duty to get WoW-Like Subscriptions?

MMO's have subscription fees to help maintain the huge mass off updates and to help run huge servers. Somehow, I doubt that MW2 will have to do something like that (especially when the most players you can get on one server is 18, at least on the console versions). How does that validate a subscription fee?
If this comes into effect, I'll drop MW2 and go back to World at War. For all its faults, the online system was at least fair. What was wrong with the way Treyarch did things when it came to DLC? The option to pay for extra content was there, but not mandatory. Isn't that the best way to do things?

I got the game on the PS3 for a reason... I looked forward to multiplayer on CoD MW2 and I didn't want to pay for Xbox Live any longer. And after beating the game you want to see how good you are compared to playing other people.A subscription shouldn't be necessary if they made money from 7 Million copies in one day and they money is still rising. Besides, I wonder if Xbox Live users will have to pay more if that's the case.

See, this is what you get for encouraging them.
I am personally encouraging IW, and to a lesser degree Treyarch. (WaW was ok, but my god i loved the zombies!)

Activision..
I hate those guys.

Just about as much as i hate E.A.

i have not bought an E.A. sports game in years..

that being said..
A persistent world Modern Warfare game would be... in a word either the best thing since both sliced bread AND cheese.

or a sure sign of the end times approaching.

If it is done well, modern warfare in a persistent world could have an X-Com feel where you are whisked from place to place in your unit's own helicopter to be inserted to perform tasks while members of opposing factions(enemy players) and the locals(mobs) do their best to stop you.

Id pay 10$ a month for that.

The flip side is them convincing themselves that we will all clamor for the opportunity to pay them for what we already have.

Peer to Peer server based fps bedlam.

Which is terrific and all, but not 10$ a month terrific.

Although i could see them having some success with the micro-transaction model.
Want a custom hat? buy a custom hat. Want a different holster rig for your side arm? Buy one..

Want to wear a Chicken Costume in the middle of Afghan whilst sniping away hapily? Go for it.

That will be 4.99$ and i for one would hapily shell it out for the distinct pleasure of humiliating my foes while looking absurd.

I won't be jumping on to that bandwagon. I shook off the WoW addiction for good earlier this year and I don't plan to go back. I pay for XBox Live because it offers a large array of services for me. I'm done paying a monthly fee to play one game. If they decide to rework their entire library in this direction, then so be it. I guess that will be my loss in games but there are other companies and, amazingly, other hobbies as well.

Personally, I think this is ridiculous; I wouldn't pay a monthly fee to play an FPS.

There better be a bloody big petition if something like this happens...
If there is a petition (in the case of this happening), let's just hope it actually works.

Call me crazy but didnt they think about doing this with Guitar Hero WT's make your own song thingy?

I think they will quickly see their bottom numbers. in terms of people gaming, fall out from below them. Especially if we consider the bulk, unfortunately are, screaming annoying children, and parents, will not want another thing to have to pay for to keep them quiet.

Must... not... kill... Activision... CEO......
Good thing I'm a pacifist.

Anyway, NO!

The hell is this? I can put up with all the other stuff that annoying companies do, but charging for stuff that IS and SHOULD be free in the first place is not okay ('cause it's the best part of the game).

Also I'm pretty sure everyone everywhere has the same opinion on this.

That would be a even bigger mistake then screwing the PC gamers over with the match making system (and a screwed up party system). They should actually compensate us real gamers for buying that.. And if you got the Xbox, don't cry because you have to pay monthly fee, there is a way out. Get a PC! Or even a PS3, at least Sony isn't screwing their costumers over.

I will not ever pay a game per month just to be able to play it. It should be enough that we have to buy the game, which already are overpriced.

Hmmn, I wonder where they got that from "people demanding to pay" thing. Only people I can think of is WoW nerds...

Blizzard and Activision are owned by the same mother company, but that doesn't mean they should start sharing all their ideas with each other..

Well, who is not going to buy this? Many people will say that this is an outrage, say they will boycott it and then still go out and buy it.

The only way to tell them to go f**k themselves is too have nobody buy their game, which will never happen.

It is stupid, but how do you fight something like that, and get everyone to go along with it?

Activision, just because you own Blizzard doesn't mean you are Blizzard.

The only reason Blizzard can get away with Pay-to-play is because they've revolutionized and optimized every game format they've touched; people will pay monthly for more of that.

It's like a restaurant; if I go to eat at Blizzard my ten dollars is buying me Fillet Mignon, If I go to Activision I'll get re-heated wings and undercooked oysters.

What could they possibly add to Call of Duty that would be worth ten dollars a month in addition to high speed internet(and Xbox Live if you swing that way); and is it likely it'll be even close to what you'd expect or want from them?

So glad I didn't buy this game.

Oh, my, god...are you saying you would pony up the money for that?
