They get credit for not saying "Earn Points" but lose a little for still thinking games go by a similar system.

But, really, does ANYONE know what the hell the game storyline is about? All I know is the title and it involves a drug cartel in some way.

To what I heard, we play as guys fucking up the cartel.

It sets a bad example for kids? Pshaw!

You wanna know what really sets a bad example for kids? Parents who buy their underage child this game and then ***** about it's content.

It's rated M for a reason. That's 17+ years old. Get it through your heads people!

They make it sound as if these Drug wars have been caused by video game content and not by twenty-five years of asinine and ineffective anti-drug operations.

Well.

It might be argued that any portrayal of cartel stuff makes it seem cool, unless the game sucks that is.

Not a single trailer or useful snip of information has been released about the game.

Yet these dudes are claiming alleged facts.

I'd really like to know of the sources they were using.

Because if it actually turned out to be baseless nonsense spewed from the mouths of ill informed ignoramuses who seem to not realize that most games nowadays aren't made to appeal to kids since the average age of game players ranges between 18 and 30 and that kids should not be playing these kind of games in the first place, that would really make them look stupid.

In all honesty, I understand their concern. The shit that's going on in Mexico is causing the suffering and deaths of countless innocent people, and I too would feel offended by a game promoting that. But unless a legitimate trailer or article proves that Call of Juarez: The Cartel is doing just that, then this whole string of criticism is pointless.

Call of Juarez: Modern Warfare huh? *sigh*. We just can't keep anything in it's own time period can we?

Call of Juarez: The Cartel is scheduled to come out this summer for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

A first person shooter set in the modern day that is not about soldiers or space marines sounds an interesting premise (oh how low have we fallen to consider anything that is vaguely different an improvement), but not if it's console exclusive FFFFFUUUUUUUU-

Oh well, I guess I won't be playing this. I won't mind as long as it's not good. On a sidenote, I like how it's all about the influence on the kids, like playing games is something so important and natural as eating or breathing. If you think your kids are going to be influenced negatively from this game then don't buy it for them! Geez...
hmmm I checked online and everywhere said it was going to be on P.C soooooooooo I think its all good in da hood with this one.

Ah well, how about Ubisoft just don't release it in Mexico or Texas? Problem solved. They can stop bitching and think their kiddies are safe, while everyone with half a brain imports it from somewhere else and still gets to enjoy the game. Everybody wins!

'Call of Juarez: The Cartel continues to draw fire from police and civic leaders in the U.S. and Mexico, who say the game glorifies drug cartel violence and sets a bad example for kids.'

Hold on, I think that's a typo ...

'Call of Juarez: The Cartel continues to draw fire from police and civic leaders in the U.S. and Mexico, who are unable or unwilling to do anything about the actual drug cartel violence or Mexico's state of lawlessness so are lashing out like a wounded beast. Because their position is otherwise so feeble, they would like you to know they are doing it "for the children."'

There we go.

It's amazing that all these people managed to play the game to completion and form their own highly educated opinions thoroughly backed up with facts and expert testimonies.

Wait, none of those things happened.

Evereyone's getting their knickers in a bunch over things that haven't happened yet.

"It sets a bad example for the kids." I am getting so tired of this STUPID argument. If a game is rated M for 17 and older, it's the parents' responsibility not to get it for their kids! DAAAAMMMNNN. Whoo, I feel better.

Does anyone have any idea of how bad the cartel problem has become in Mexico? There are several towns where the police force no longer has any presence because the Cartels have simply killed and threated it out of existance. Does anyone remeber the story of the 20 somthing colledge studnet who became cheif of Police because nobody else would take the job? 3 days later she was kidnapped and was never seen since.

You may ***** and moan about sensationalism and how very few details exist and nothing proves this game will increse crime, but in this case I will be willing to cut them some slack. The drug Cartels have their own well equipted Miltas, dozens have been kidnapped and killed for daring to oppose them, making a game about it all while its still all ongoing seems a tad unessescary

"It sets a bad example for the kids."
Again, normally I would agree, but joining the Cartels is already a very attractive option for some people, the police cant offer protection so they need to be on the right side.

I don't see how this is any different than any gang-centered game ever made.
This is much closer to home than other gang-games you see out there. It would be like if someone tried to glorify the Rebels in Uganda and make a game about that.

I live right on the border and my dad used to work in a profession that dealt with Cartels. It's very narly stuff

Well, my basic thoughts on this are still that they should stay away from ongoing real world incidents like this.

That said it's not a game for kids, so I think focusing on the effect on youth is a bit much. Rather they should be working towards informing parents to make informed desicians about the content of the game.

I'll also say that those who express concern over video games need to be more careful. Some very legitimate points on this game tends to suffer when they veer off into "loony tunes" territory, making points about how people only die once in real life unlike a game. I think anyone capable of understanding the concept of a drug cartel has probably got that one figured out, and if they don't, they are probably not the sorts of people to be playing video games like this... being in asylums and so on.
