No argument that he is a good actor, I just don't think that his voice would suit the gravely Marcus

The Rock? Seriously? I barely care for this adaptation as it is, but if they're going to dump all over it by giving the leading role to him...
Remember Doom, people. Doom.

I agree with Keane, who could possibly do Baird justice? Actually, who were the guys who played the brothers in The Boondock Saints? I kind of like the idea of an American-Irish Baird, although he wasn't Irish in the games. As for the Cole Train, it can only be one choice... that's right, you guessed it:

Samuel L Jackson, motherfucka!

That's the question I came in here to ask, actually. They'd better get someone good for that role.

The Rock could easily work. Trouble is, I don't think the film would.

I'd have to say either:

Or.

I vote Dominic Purcell for the Fenix role. Slap some scarring on his face and a little spot of hair on his chin and you'll get a pretty good likeness. And he has the right height and build, Fenix is big but some of that bulk is his armor.
Jason Statham though?
I can't see it, myself.

The Rock might be able to pull it off though, I guess. There are worse choices out there for sure.

Even when Bruce Willis isnt entirely into the crew he works with, that disconection shines through beautifully with his part, take Fifth Element for example. Bruce did Korben Dallas with absolute precision, even though rumours of his lack of enthusiasm seemed pretty spot on.

Bruce would fit Marcus to well, being able to disconnect, however keeping a full understanding of situation and environment. Hes perfect. I want to have his babys.

Rock is still pretty green, wich is what Marcus is entirely NOT.
Bruce is weathered, grissly, and aware. Very Marcus.

Ron Perlman as Marcus is a pretty good suggestion! I think Vin Diesel gets my vote though. I admire whoever it was who said Nathan Fillion, but he's just not bulk enough.

Ryan Renolds has to be Baird; it's a perfect fit.

I don't see why Lester Speight can't be Terrible Terry Tate... I mean Augustus Cole. They're practically the same character.

Dom is a tough one to cast. Danny Trejo is one tough m/f, but he's getting a bit old these days.

I reckon Dax Shepard would make a good Carmine. He's got that naive awkwardness about him. The question would be, which Carmine would be in the movie? Would it be Anthony, Ben, Clay or the other one? How about all four...

I think Bruce Willis would fit the bill perfectly, as far as sticking to the frame of the original Marcus goes. He can pull off that grizzled veteran feel.

I don't know how I managed not to think of him! He's perfect for the role.

I think Vin Deisel would be the best, by far. In fact, let me run this down now.

Marcus Fenix - Vin Deisel
No. I really don't see any resemblance between Vin and Marcus, and besides, Vin is only good for spouting one liners, and I don't recall hearing many in Gears. Maybe I just have a bad memory.

The things working in Vin's favour are that he has enough bass in his voice and he's built. He'd need to spend a bit of time in makeup to look like Marcus though.

I admit his voice is low enough, but it doesn't really sound the same, and he would have to spend a looong time in makeup before he looked anything like Marcus. I say Mickey Rourke or Ron Perlman.

Ryan Reynolds.
I reluctantly agree, since I hate Ryan Reynolds, provided he gruffs up a bit.

My personal vote for Baird goes to Paul Walker or Josh Duhamel. I think they could pull it off pretty well.

I don't think Dwayne Johnson could do Marcus justice, as others have said, he's not gravelly enough, and whenever he tries to use profanity in films it's just laughable. Here's what I say would probably be my shortlists for characters:

Marcus Fenix - Not Dwayne Johnson
Dominic Santiago - Michael Peña/Oded Fehr (I kinda liked him as Carlos in the Resi Evil films)
Damon Baird - Josh Duhamel/Paul Walker/Ryan Reynolds
Augustus Cole - Lester Speight/Michael Clarke Duncan/Tyrese Gibson
Anthony Carmine - Shia LeBeouf/Tom Lenk
Minh Young Kim - Still working on this one
Victor Hoffman - Jon Voight/Gene Hackman
Anya Shroud - Who cares? She has a very minor role, only 1 physical appearance and the rest is a disembodied voice.

Perfect, I would see the movie just to see Samuel L Jackson say that.

After all, thats why I saw Snakes on a Plane

edit: how about this idea: Stone-Cold Steve Austin for Dizzy.

You know, I kinda like that idea! I think I'd rather see Kris Kristofferson as Dizzy though.

As for Anya; good question. As much as I like Scar Jo, I don't think she can act. Ummm, Naomi Watts would make a good choice I think.
