Can Zombies exist or not?

I made an observation about how the brain takes quite a while to "die". I was contradicting how you said the brain "stops working". Not arguing that zombies are impossible, just wanted to point our that you where wrong about that

Zombies can not exist.
Once you die your brain stops working, therefore, there is nothing to stimulate your muscles to move.

I think you can live without brain function... just look at the cast of "Jersey Shore"
but zombies existing can be possible with the application of nanobots that would attempt to repair the body after death but when they are not able to, they would activate muscles or control the brain stem by themselves to create the illusion of life. (if this happened we would get an army of self-repairing zombies and would be screwed) self repairing nanobots are already in the development stages... lets just hope they don't go skynet on us at any time.

Traditional 'undead' zombies, no. It's purely fictional based on what may as well be magic. If magic is released (or re-released) into the universe, then sure. But until then, no.

Feral humans caused by a disease or chemical weapon or whatever...sure. But lucky for us, they're more likely to all kill each other in that event. If something could drive a human beyond insanity into an animalistic, homicidal rage...they likely wouldn't have any more of a connection with each other than uninfected humans. If you're immune, all you have to do is hide behind a barricade for a few days and let them shred each other to bits.

To me, that is the most likely outcome of the most likely possible zombie apocalypse.

It's completely illogical to be alive and dead at the same time.

Only if you adhere to the strict definition I would think. Magically animated corpses kinda defy logic by being.......magic....but do they count as zombies?

LOL see the thing is, I have LOTS of reasons as to why they COULD exist, but i need the opposing side. Just scientific reasons why not. It seems that no-one is really interested in why it COULDN'T happen :S

Mmmkay, alot of people are completely missing what ZombieDroid is trying to talk about by not reading the thread ect ect, albeit, some people aren't, and are doing a great job.

Hollywood zombies simply cannot exist, due to the fact that autonomous movement means life, and life cannot mean death. So if the 'zombie' is moving and attacking, it isn't a zombie. The only way to justify there being hollywood zombies is to use magic or some otherworldly force that does not exist.

Omitting every other type of zombie besides the shambling brain eating kind, you just can't have them. You need a brain to function, period. Anything else is either alive, robot, or not a zombie. Motor function depends on electric signals and unless you put a computer in there, effectively making it a robot, not a zombie, then its not a zombie.

You want proof of the impossibility of hollywood zombies? Just make a diagram of the body and how it works together to produce life. Then draw a shell of a body, representing the parts that work after death, Problem solved. Or, just write, "Dead is not Alive"

How would a dead zombie get sugar to its muscles in order to keep moving? If most biological functions are shut down, piddly things like muscles and nerves would stop working.

Further, one thing all "zombie" movies have is that zombies don't attack each other. If they did the story'd be over quickly. That aspect of hyper-aggression doesn't exist in the real world.

I'm sure if we eventually get really advanced in genetics then something that acts like a zombie would be possible.
Don't know about infecting people or bringing dead people (half) alive though, as much as i'd like a zombie apocalypse sometime in my life - It'd be the best way to go ;D
