I think Dragons crown is a much bigger offender of sexism than this and people gloss over Dragons crown sexism like it's nothing.
Really you think Dragons Crown was "glossed over". It's harder to find articles about Dragons Crown that don't contain a discussion on it's "sexism" than Bigfoot.

If that's what you consider glossed over I'd hate to see what you consider to be a full blown outrage. :p
I meant more people who play the game, as opposed to those who just talk about it.

I know, I did an awful job of getting that message across but I did it in a bit of a rush.

I've seen plenty of articles about the sexism of the game, I just kind of brain farted.
Oh, in that sense yeah, but having said that I'm guessing the target audience was specifically those who don't care if a game is sexist.

Maybe not sexist, but certainly disappointing and short sighted.
That's how I feel about how Japan treats women in general. It's no surprise to me that the way Japan treats women leaks out into their games.

Still, I have to wonder what would irritate me more: A game that has no women, or a game that crowbars women into the plot for the sake of "equality." Equal chance is important in real-life, no doubt, but in a story you can sort of tell if a character's been jammed in a story because they feel out of place. I mean, what's worse: A game with only 12 male characters, or a game with 11 well-written characters and 1 out of place female character? Which would get the least amount of criticism, I wonder. If having a woman in the game would (somehow) not fit, then I probably wouldn't want her in there to cripple the game. In the same spectrum, despite being a white boy, I wouldn't want the Wayan brothers to ruin one of their movies by cramming a white boy in there for the sake of equality -- They should keep the whole cast black if the plot requires it. The same goes for the story of this game.

But that's just my opinion and I'm sure other people will disagree.

Yeah this is mad sexist, completely ignoring all those female knights from the past... oh wait.
That is why there are also no playable female characters in Chivalry, because due to a man's natural strength and desire to protect women, children and their king, there were no female knights/soldiers.

Granted this is a fantasy game where anything can go like Dragon's Dogma, also a Capcom game, which let you unrealistically use a wispy female to perform huge feats of strength... i guess this time they want a more realistic tone, how is that strange?

If this game is sexist, so is TF2, and I hate America, because I am a Socialist.
The Pyro is a woman. Besides, TF2 was released alongside Alyx Vance and Chell.

You know what skip the sexism stuff this would all be avoided if Deep Down would stop trying to play games and been what it should of been which was Dragons Dogma 2.

Why do people always fall back to, "But in the past wimminz had to stay in the kitchen, so it's ~realistic~ to not have female characters," like it has any sort of relevance in a sci-fi fantasy video game?

So what do you guys think? Is it "sexist" to not include a female playable character because of the game's plot?

I don't see the problem, considering how the news story's comments lead into our actual forum. Like you said, it helps incite discussion. What's wrong with that?
Nothing at all. As I mentioned at the beginning, it could just be a matter of personal taste for me and some others. It's not that it is definitively wrong. It's the difference between a news article reading like a news article - and it reading like a thread with an in-depth, informed lead-in that happens to be in the news feed. But again, it's a matter of personal taste. When discussion is bound to happen (and for that matter, even if when isn't), have confidence in the efficacy of the reporting alone to incite it. You wrote a strong article, as you often do; so take that as a compliment rather than a slight.

Four player co-op with a single playable character? Does each player get one limb to control or something?
i think this is a good idea someone should get on this. As for sexism not having a female character does not equal sexism there is so little info on the game at the moment theres no telling why there are no women in the game.

can some one explain to me why having 1 playable character who is male is a bad thing? i mean i would be angry to if and go 'wtf' too if it actually had a all male cast and 12 male only playable characters but all this drama just for 1 playable character? i just dont get it.

Definitely not sexist, but I'd argue that it's a missed opportunity by the developers to make their female audience feel included as well.
