I point this out because as time goes on I'm becoming increasingly irritated to hearing how something "reviewed well" despite outrage from the fans. Perhaps the most epic example of this being "Mass Effect 3". If a reviewer doesn't get what the big deal is, and his reviews and criticisms reflect this, and he might outright say "I don't understand the big deal" I increasingly feel that's a sign that someone doesn't belong reviewing.
"Their opinions suck, mine are right, they should quit."

What a load. It is amazing how fanboys cry about how some game didn't fit up to their notions of what the game should be, so the reviewers were paid off/are bad at their jobs. Here's a concept: perhaps they thought the game was good? Maybe they thought that this is a decent Devil May Cry game after all?

Many reviewers praised Mass Effect 3 while noting that the ending wasn't all that great. Many have praised this new DMC game, while also pointing out its flaws. A childish amount of swearing, boring antagonist, combat in later levels can be boring compared to early sections where you have more options... all of these things were said in incredibly positive reviews about the game. Positive reviewers haven't blinded themselves to DMC's flaws: they're just willing to try something new, whereas a lot of the people bitching in this thread are the sort to bury their heads in the sand because they didn't get exactly what they wanted.

Honestly, I might buy the game full-price after having seen all the fanboy tears of rage flying around the forums. They're bloody delicious and I could use a decent hack-and-slash, even though I don't necessarily like the political themes I've seen from the game's trailers.

At this point, there are such groups of people:

1. Those who played a game and liked new protagonist;
2. Those who played the game and disliked new protagonist but not only because of looks, but because of his personality too;
3. Those who refuse to play;
4. Those who simply watched playthroughs and were satisfied with that;
5. Those who simply didn't play yet, but are just interested in this game as something that has nothing to do with original IP.

I really don't think that ant of said groups are going to be interested in new skin.

I'd like to point out, that the whole controversy could have been avoided if they named characters differently from their original incarnations. For example, call Dante Caesar and Vergil Julius. Also, change Spardas name to Mandus and make him a younger brother of Mundus (TWIST).
See? Devs are sattisfied, because they can do whatever they want and fans are satisfied too, because Dante wasn't in the game, so he wasn't changed a bit.

P.S. Angry Joe called it.

So this will be in my pc pre-order? Nice, I like the gameplay but dear god is new Dante terrible.

And I really should talk to my grandma to find out if I am related to some kind of demon that feasts on tears and rage and broken dreams.

So, people who liked new Dante enough to preorder gets the classic Dante while people who were likely skeptic of new Dante and waited until they bought the game have to pay 4 dollars?

A big LOL.

So, what happens with the "White Wig Scene" in the game? Does the scene stay the same, only with a black wig?

EDIT: For people wondering WTF I'm talking about, it's this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwTu2bpcZ3w

Y'know, I'm actually afraid to post in these topics because I think my avatar choice will tell people I'm just one of those "hair-hating fanboys" and my opinion will be ignored as a result.

With that in mind, Here's my opinion: This is probably the most transparent attempt at damage-control I've ever seen, it's almost as if Capcom actually believe that the hair and look are the main problem with the game.

I won't actually give my opinion on the game (it can be summed up with a wet fart noise) but this is an absurd way for a business to act. To first farm out a widely-beloved and respected series to somebody you didn't do enough research on, to ignore fan complaints and in the case of Alex Jones, actively insult them, to insist this character be put into a mascot fighter game despite his game not being out yet, then turn around and say "Here's a costume for you, lol but you have to pay for it!"

I just fail to see why Capcom still have goodwill left in people, it feels like they're holding my favourite franchises hostage.

Well, i said it once and i will say it again, i actually like the new design better than the old.
It's a thing of taste, and while i loved the games i didn't have much love for most of the character design.
Same with Bayonetta. I absolutely love the gameplay and can appreciate the over the top design, but in the end i think it is utterly ridiculous and i have my problems with it.

By theway: i actually think that the Wig scene in the new game is a stupid asshole move. If you know that some of the old audience is not gonna like you don't add insult to injury. It's just childish and silly.

Capcom is the DLC scumlord of all the publishers, even Activision.

Fuck you, Capcom.

How's the edgy joke with the mop on his head going to work now, huh?
I don't see the issue. You don't have to buy it, you can play with the new Dante (and honestly, I don't see him being that bad of a character design).

People complain way to much about his damn look. Hell, the original games weren't even all that good outside the core gameplay.
The issue as far as people see it is that Capcom deliberately changed his look, knowing it'd piss people off. They then offer the chance to have him looking how the fans prefer, if they spend some extra money on it.

If there hadn't been such a wide-scale issue with the rebooted look, then a lot of people wouldn't care if they released appearance DLC's.

The new dante, game and all, is better then the old. I just can't go back to classic DMC ever again. From the look, to personality, to various little mechanics that just get under my skin, the classic DMCs are now a chore to sit through. I loved the series in its time but now...

Makes the ?50 I dropped on the HD collection feel like a waste.

Even looking at the DLCs version of classic Dante... it just looks stupid. Like a 90's kids vision of cool. A Long White mop head for hair with red leather? Take away the sword and guns makes him either a pimp or a male hooker.

Here's to hoping the Reboot does well in sales, and not fall to the wayside by nostalgia blind fans. I want to see another venture into this vision of DMC.

I used to adore Capcom and Konami for many years. Mega Man, Silent Hill, Castlevania and so on. But with the exception of Dragon's Dogma being actually pretty good, though probably better to me simply by comparison to their lowering bar, they both have gone to crap over the last 5 years or more.

Angry Joe, and anyone with a room temp IQ, already predicted this little DLC announcement at the moment they showed the new Dante in the first place.

I don't know why they felt the need to actually make an entire retail release game, it could have just been a Puzzle Quest clone and they could have had all the new and old characters as on disc DLC.

Every time you scored a big cascade etc. it would cut to Dante doing a sick combo.

When you come down to it, all anyone wants from DMC is to see sick combos. So why not do like FF13 and have it do them for you and you can push 1 button to cycle weapons mid combo so you feel like you have some control?

Oh I think people dislike Dante for reasons beyond just his looks (which in my opinion goes a bit too boy bandish for my own liking). He's coming off as a reluctant hero with some serious personality issues, which is a bit of a downgrade from the old Dante who was more of a half blooded bounty hunter looking for a challenge (and if I recall from DMC 3, Pizza.) I like the old Dante because he helped emphasize what the game was about while the new Dante is just... why the heck did they choose to make him like this? :(

Reboot doesn't mean they have to change something that isn't broken. It just means starting up a new tale without being trapped by the lore of the older stuff.

Oh God! Platinum really should have made the new Devil May Cry game. DMC just felt like a 3rd person action game with the Devil May Cry title stuck on in an attempt to increase sales. I don't even mind the new Dante's look, but I find his new personality and the attempted serious tone of the game really irritates me.

Like hanging a steak on the neck of the ugly kid, so the dog will play with him.

Nice try, Capcom. Now give this franchise to someone who knows how to make fun games, like Platinum.

Just occurred to me, but isn't Ninja Theory the group behind Metroid Other M? These guys seem to be developing a track record for angering fans of long running franchises through alterations to main characters.
