Yes, they're all stupid by nature.
And Ducks are trying to kill me.
And Americans are fat, warmongering ignorami.

To what comparison are we calling them stupid?
Compared to humans? Just becuase we don't understand cats and they don't build things whilst we're out of the house, doesn't mean they're stupid.

Someone once told me dolphins aren't so great, since they haven't built things or tools to help them. You try building things without thumbs.
What about people born with 5 fingers on each hand, a finger where each thumb normally would/should have been.

Those people are able to build things, I've met someone who has 10 fingers, and she is able to build things.

I pointed this out once to a friend when I saw the same video: The cat gets someone to clean up their litter box, gets free food, doesn't have to do anything and sleeps half the day.

Who's stupid in this equation?

As for a more measured opinion, there have been studies that Cats are in the top 5 smartest mammals on the planet (humans, of course, being #1 outside of certain states of the US). This is part of the reason why they're so much more independent than dogs, their problem solving abilities make them a lot more self sufficient in a crisis...so they don't really need us. In fact, given their tendency to mark their owners (the rubbing, the constant rubbing)... they think we belong to them.

Really, given how smart they are for sub-human animals some of their behaviors become a little...creepy.

I once had to beat my friends cat with a coat hanger because it attacked me for no reason! I still have scars...

...in places that should not have scars...

OP: I don't like cats...
...Dogs FTW

And what pet isn't "stupid?"
Or are you suggesting that dogs are geniuses?
No, that would be stupid.
But mice on the other hand, very intelligent!
Just look!
I think you'll find it fufills both of my arguments, Cats are stupid, mice are GENIUSES!

Me and my family are cat owners for the first time. We got a kitten a few days ago. Sometimes I marvel 'cause he's smarter than I think (and he picks things up incredibly well), but I still laugh when he randomly falls over backwards or chews the tip of his own tail. I don't believe any animal is "stupid" but we humans certainly have an advantage when it comes to advancing in technology and life. Cats are bloody adorable anyway, no matter their intelligence level.

Yes, Cats are fucking dumb as hell. Dogs do dumb shit too, but generally only as puppies. Cats will continue to chase laser pointers forever. Cats are entertaining because they're stupid. They don't really have any other use other than entertainment in a modern, mouse free house.

I'm a dog person, all the way. I like my possessions, a pet is just a glorified possession, to have a use. Every dog I've had has, at least, been an early warning alarm for anyone coming home, if not an actual guard dog.
Dogs kill small children. Cats do not.
My dogs have never killed a small child, or even barked at one. The blame rests with the owner, not the dog itself.

Also, dogs protect small children, myself included, when they know what they are supposed to do, when they are properly trained. A cat would never give its life to protect your family, any of my dogs would die for me. You can tell by the way they never leave your side when you're hurt. You can laugh at your cat all day, I'll take my own incorruptible bodyguard, likely unnecessary though he may be.

Lastly, cats eat you when you die.(though so will dogs too if you don't establish yourself as the leader)

Cats are simple and loveable, and I like them for that reason. If they were too smart they would require constant attention, whereas my cat can go all day just lazing about.

I've seen my cat get his claw stuck in the carpet (or other clothe-based surfaces) and just sit there, tugging away for a good half-a-minute before finally managing to free himself. So, yes, cats are fucking stupid. Most animals are, but that doesn't make them any less adorable. :D

They can either keep the rodents away or become moving target practice. Otherwise I'm good with out a pet.

Stupid transcends sentience. All beings make mistakes or are ignorant at some point, what makes things stupid is if the stupid act is witnessed by another sentient being. It becomes more hilarious if that sentient being has a recording device and manages to record the act.

All my cat has to do is come into my room every now and then and despite it bringing in whatever animal it wants to torture that night and leaving me to save it or finish its crippled little body off I would still risk my life to save it.

Cats are pretty smart if they can manipulate us into giving a shit about them:p

Love the stereotypes that surround pets more than anything else. Love my pets rats to death, I have had rats in my life for 10 years now. Love the false information people have about domesticated pet rats. Lets look at some great examples I have heard come out of peoples mouths.

1. Really dirty animals (Most rats clean themselves 7 to 8 times daily. You can train them to go in a litter box.)

2. They are dumb ( Rats have the intelligence of a 4 year old child. Thats better than most cats or dogs.)

3. They bite (I have only been bitten once, that was because the rat was a rescue and the owner was mean to it.)

4. They don't bond (Rats bond to their owners and are excited to see them. They even play and want to groom you most of the time.)
