bleh i really hope that 3d doesnt take off- unless theres a giant technology breakthrough that allows holographic images to be displayed without glasses- because as it currently is, 3d adds nothing more to the entertainment process than adding an inconsequential amount of depth to the screen and giving me a headache.

As long as they are the polarized glasses and not the red and blue shit ones, I would love 3D gaming.

That said, people love to think that flying cars will be here in the next decade and the ability to download our consciousness into computers is just around the corner, but the reality is, I would expect 3 more console generations before 3D gaming.

I can safely say Dead Space need never enter the 3rd Dimension.

Those Necro-fucks are too pounce-y and too-close-for-comfort already without them actually crossing some kind of visual threshold into my fucking face.

Well this guy will be included in those lists of "dumb short-sighted quotes" in about 2-3 years when MS is playing catch up in the 3D gaming market.

640K ought to be enough for anybody...

The problem with any 3D gaming is that the resolution and aliasing only becomes that much more pronounced when you put things up in 3D. Not only that but the 3D image (so to speak) is also blurry.

I`d want a very crisp and clear 3D image displayed in front of me, not some blurry mess. So before that happens, forget it.

Aaron Greenberg, Microsfot Xbox Director of Product Management,
It's a tic I have, sorry.

Since MS doesn't make TVs yet, and one of their competitors does, I'm not completely surprised they would try to tamp this down a tad. I personally don't like 3D in theaters, but I do think it would add something to, say, Gran Tourismo.

"Optimal" distance from the TV is something that the HD format move has been pounding into folks for 5+ years. I don't think they all take it to heart, but just how fixed is any particular viewer from a theater movie screen? 3D format movies seem to be doing well now that tech is brought to bear. What distance hurdles could really exist when the scales are at least one or two orders of magnitude _smaller_?

Finally, what theater is this guy going to if he thinks there's MORE traffic distractions in a living room?

While I don't really want current 3D tech to be the standard cuz I don't really like the 3D glasses, I find it amusing that Microsoft would say this sort of thing. MS was wrong about Bluray, about the HD revolution, about Iphone, etc. When MS says something isn't the future, we should seriously consider it to be a very likely possibility of being the future.

I'm not completely sold on 3d yet. I saw Beowulf (sp?) in 3d and I thought it was just a gimmick, but I haven't seen Avatar yet *gasp* so I don't know how well it's done in that movie. Having it in games, in my opinion, would also seem like a gimmick, but I own a Wii and am usually open to new experiences

Although, I always enjoyed the 3d movies in Disneyworld...

3D is great for Avatar. Sometimes you'll find your self trying to dodging debris. Such an experience would make even gaming that much better. I hope they are working on it in earnest, the immersion factor is just too high to not make at least some serious attempts. Don't we want people to start taking gaming more serious? Games could be the leading form of entertainment.

I'd be willing to put on 3D glasses for such immersion. I can do it for a 2 hour 40 minute movie.

3D doesn't work for me, period. I have uncorrectable vision in one eye, so even the polarized glasses don't work for me and the colored glasses are worse. As long as I can "opt-out" I don't care.

The best example of 3D I've seen was when one guy reversed engineered a Wii so that all you had to do is wear a sensor bar and you had the ability to see around your targets as you moved.

"3D is great in the theater,
I might just be being my normal, progression-fearing self here, but I strongly disagree with this statement. 3D in movies has generally degraded the experience for me (...possibly because my eyes gravitate towards the faults in the layering for some reason), and I don't think it's going to add much to games.

I'd much prefer it if these devs could stop ****ing around with the "apparent" 3D technology and just work on advancing the technology behind stuff that's actually 3-Dimensional.

This dog would look a lot better if you had 3D glasses on.

I put on my 3d glasses from Pixars up when I saw it with my daughter and no it doesn't. Looks like a 6 eyes mutant freak with red and green over draws and a giant muzzle...

Bad hell hound! Don't do chew that virgin! Don't you chew -rolls up the sunday paper and wacks the nose- Bad Hell hound!

Personally, I prefer to watch movies in 2D. The 3D is kind of annoying to me. And I'd rather not wear a pair of glasses every time I watched TV

The main reason I can think if why it won't (atleast for triple A titles) is the lack of GPU processing power in the current consoles.

But you won't hear Microsoft say that PC's can do this soon without those limitations :)
