So, some of you noticed that people have changed their avatars and profile pics to a big red = sign in support of gay marriage.

Also, people have a big green one in support of those who worked on Life of Pi.

So, Escapistses... Escapi... Escaptions... So, posters on Escapist! Do you do this? How do you decide what cause to support this way? Do you think it works?

I only approve of the changing avatars to commemorate (not Martyr) Vault101.

As for me, no way! How else will you get your daily Headdesk?

I've flipped through a couple of threads just looking at avatars to find....anyone really who has done this and I can't find one person. Lots of dead Vault101 avatars so does that count?

All well, to the question at hand!

I have not and I will not ever do that. I've adjusted my avatar for March Mayhem but I would not adjust my guy for a cause. Frankly...there's nothing I care enough about to declare my love for it in that way. It's kind of like a digital bumper sticker; no one really cares and all you've done is hurt your re-sale value.

I'm not going to look down upon someone who does it but don't expect me to join in your parade.

No. Never - that's the stupidest thing I've heard - changing your avatar for one thing or another. Pfft, why would I want to do it?

I feel like that's sarcasm and that your avatar means something but I don't know what...

I just thought everyone really liked math today

Srsly though, it's silly. What does having an equal sign for an avatar really going to change? Nil and zip, really

Vault101 was recently permabanned. I thought you'd recognise the name. And the avatar, given several other people are also sporting it.

Nope, I think I'd either support something a bit more fully than just a simple avatar swap, or just not bother at all.

For somewhere like here (with the Vault grave thing) I suppose a nice little commemoration so I can deal with that.

Changing your picture on your Facebook profile for a while is the lazy man's way of acting like they give a shit.

Wait, really? I haven't noticed anyone with that avatar. There are a lot of Vault avatars around though.

I joined in and changed my avatar to Amaterasu for a couple of hours on daystars birthday, but I don't think that counts. That wasn't support for anything, that was just a bunch of people being silly :D

I'll change my avatar for fun things, on here I usually have have festive versions of mine but I never completely change it. If I do it will never be for some political slacktivisim.

[sub]...and we didn't even have March Mayhem this year...[/sub]

I don't really bother with those kinds of things, no. It reminds me a little of those big moral crusades people have on Facebook, where they believe liking pictures is helping. It just seems silly to me.

Besides, most people on here would most likely only recognise my posts due to Geralt's pretty face showing up. So hey.

That's what that says? I need to clean my glasses...

But I didn't know he was banned! I looked at the post and I don't get how he broke any rules.

I would agree but I just asked DoPo about his and then learned something. Also, I've seen people asking about the = sign. So I think it does create awareness. How much, though, I don't know.

I'll be honest, seeing Geralt is what makes me read your posts more carefully.

Hmm, perhaps. But everyone already knows about gay marriage issues, whether they are fore it or against it (and an = sign is not going to change the opinion of someone who is against it). The only people I would imagine who aren't aware of it are people who are just entirely indifferent, and they're unlikely to be swayed either. So I still don't see how useful it would be.

It reminds me of those little campaigns to raise awareness of child abuse, like the world doesn't already know it exists.

And this [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.403566-Poll-Thats-it-Im-done-ranting-ahead#16681869] is the post that did it. She was just on her last warning. I feel sad to see Vault go...or rather not see her come around, perhaps is more accurate.

I don't usually change my avatar for causes. Sometimes I do it for pubclub events if I feel like it but mostly it only is modified for seasonal changes. Otherwise, I stay the same. All the time.

I'm not allowed to changed my avatar.

It says so right here in my Escapist contract.
At least you're allowed to guest star in other avatars!

Also, no I'm not changing my avatar, sorry, but I'm not giving up this particular symbol.

I never change my avatar. Ever. I'm too damn happy with it.
I'll support causes in other ways, most recently on facebook...though even that was because my wife changed my picture to that grumpy cat equals sign.
I'm just too damn lazy for all that most of the time.

She. Sorry, I made an assumption.

I saw the post, I just don't get it. It was civil, right?
